Given that air time on radio is already a back room deal between big channel conglomerates and record companies, yes it will hurt the obscure ones. But that just means a new metric needs to come into place, one that is based on the system being managed rather then the system about to pull a dodo.
I seem to recall linuxconf having a "habit" of basically dumping all changes a user had done to a settings file and applying its own changes, and perhaps even stripping said file of any comments (the samba.conf is nice like that in default form).
My impression, given SAC and SAC2 was that there was multiple layers. Each layer was covered by "firewalls", and only the innermost allowed full access to all memories. Usually one only went for the outermost where one could exchange active thought (unless the person engaged "autistic mode" and disconnected from the net fully), lower levels would give access to sensory channels (seeing and hearing what the other person was experiencing, likely playing havoc with copyright laws in the process. tho given the first episode of SAC it seems there was some encoded barcodes to counteract that to some extent) and then control over motor functions (walking, talking, operating hardware of various kinds).
Sadly it has been confused from day one of modern education. The system is not about teaching, it is about programming the biodroids that slot into place inside the corporate machinery.
that it gets worded that she worries about stealing from her own future, rather then some kids or grandkids. That is a bigger shift in mentality then this short term frugality. Used to be that people planned long term for not just themselves but also the next generation or so. Now it is all me me me, with no care for even their own kids (except as perhaps status symbols "look it got enough free time that i can take care of my own child" or insurance when age finally kicks the legs out from under you), much less any generations more remote.
The corporate propaganda/marketing machine should be proud, it have shown that people can have their habits changed if one maintain a message long enough.
Not sure if that policy apply for large corporate or government clients tho, as even microsoft will maintain OSs it has stopped maintaining publicly as long as the client is willing to pay for the service.
Still, when it comes to HP specifically, they maintain their own linux drivers so i am unsure how long those last.
training i can understand, but scanner and printer drivers?
unless we are talking something very old and/or very obscure, and then it is just as much a issue with a recent version of windows unless the company "making" (who do that any more?) the hardware is onboard to continue updates (and then they could just as well do it for linux unless the update involves basically a recompile for a more recent version of visual-c++), it should be supported by cups and sane.
the existing summer time system hurt more then aid economy as there is as much productivity lost in the changeover as is gained with the daylight.
Tho i suspect that when much more of the light was provided naturally it made sense. But these days we can keep shifts going 24/7 thanks to artificial lighting.

I guess it depends on the obscurity of the content.
Sounds like Microsoft VS IBM in regards to SO/2.
how far are they willing to take their webos push?
their hints of laptop and desktop seems to flip flop between being a full boot, some kind of app framework or a quick boot setup.
now thats a sweet paradox...
Depends heavily on the size of the company. Opera however is fairly small.
swatch internet time? 1000 ticks pr day, centered on CET.
not much different from certain fruit comany products getting mentioned all over the place.

Usually its commissioned reports from "independent" third parties...
So in the end, the cloud sits on a assembly line.
At least gizmag do not appear to have asshat writers that insert personal opinions into every story written.
Hell, consider something like a meme/advertisement "bomb". I do wonder if one illegal digital drug would be "god" based.

3) what is "normal" anyways?
"common sense" is anything but common...
Largely because those that actually have the time are independently wealthy.

As the media companies likely need the banks to fund their latest projects, call it a symbiosis.
And both "sides" have sold out to wall street.
MXM graphics boards?
still, Shuttle showed of some laptop board shapes that they hoped to push as "standard" a year or so ago.
Not sure if it got any traction so far tho.
