While I certainly don't agree with this kind of law, I don't this this could be called censorship. Violent games would not be forbidden. From tfa: "These may then no longer be advertised and sold to youths." Adults (over 18 years) may still purchase these games.
In Germany, content with nudity and some sex are not banned but violence is
That's exactly the point. There would be no nipplegate in Germany.
Whenever American friends come to visit here in Germany, they are surprised about the "level of nudity" you can see in public TV. You can see completely naked women in shower gel ads in the afternoon, but nobody would be shocked about that.
However, there is this tendency of some politicians to blame violent video games for everything that goes wrong with a young guy. I think this is stupid, but I know a lot of people who agree with these politicians.
geographic advantage such as Russia's proximity to North America
Well, they're neighbours, but the regions, where they're actually neighbouring each other, western Alaska and eastern Siberia, are not exactly economic powerhouses. It's not like Los Angeles and Moscow are neighbours.
The recent rise of China muddles the picture a bit, but when you consider China's ethnic diaspora in the countries of the north and south Asian Pacific Rim that were in large part former military allies of the United States things seem a bit clearer.
Not to me. What do you mean?
And yet, the advantages of globalizations have fallen primarily on Asian nations which are about as geographically distant from North America as is possible to be on the globe
Why, there is just an Ocean between and container ships can transport goods cheaper than any other vehicle.
So who knows. Perhaps this open ice passage is all pretty irrelevant.
In my experience, earlier CFL's lastest a fair lenght of time. Lately, however, with the push to bring the price down, the longevity has been sacrificed.
I can confirm that. I'm still using my first CFL, an OSRAM Dulux EL (probably called Sylvania in the US), which my father bought more than 15 years ago! It is really ugly, my cousin called it an elephant's tooth, but it does its job (first as my desk lamp, now in the living room, hidden in paper). I also remember it was very expensive. Many of the CFLs I bought recently -mostly from Ikea - broke after a few weeks.
You on the other hand can glance at a picture of an anatomically improbable young woman engaged in some equally bizarre sex act, then pass without missing a beat in your search for a blonde Japanese teenaged acrobat with large natural breasts and a knife fetish.

Half ton of bio-mechanically enhanced armor-clad uber-trained soldiering nightmare?
I don't know Dead or Alive (I would never buy an XBox), but I'm sure all his armor and stuff won't help him against some Japanese teenage girl in a school uniform.
She'll beat him up. They just didn't want this to happen to their beloved Master Chief.

It is quite true though that the talent these days seems to be going to those who like to do something malicious with their talent.
We all remember the good old days when talent was only used for the benefit of mankind...
Hmmm... reminds me a little of Apple's eMate. Which, by the way, might have been an ideal platform to build a cheap laptop computer.
Does anybody remember this amazing little thing?
Busch and Budweiser are American beers. They have German-sounding names because, maybe they were founded by Germans or German Americans or maybe just because somebody thought beer will sell better with a German name. Boeing isn't a German company either (founded by a 2nd generation German American).
Beck's is a German beer brand, but IMHO the taste is a little boring. There are others that are much better. But all are made according to the "purity requirement": http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Reinheitsgebot
Old products are always much better healthwise than the new fangled ones.
Yep. I've always preferred the "more natural" drinks: milk, water, wine, beer (only German beer, they're incredibly strict about its purity), coffee, tea or juice (100% only).
Better stay away from Coke, Alco-Pops and the like.
right, name one country where it is legal to advocate violence.
I know a country that says a pre-emptive attack on another country is okay even if you use false evidence to justify the attack. Suspicious looks justify indefinite imprisonment and even torture. Thanks to American politicians, "freedom" has become a dirty word in many countries. If you don't believe me, go abroad and stop watching Fox News.
We believed the French and German intel that also claimed that Saddam had WMDs.
What parallel universe are you from? German and French governments many times claimed they did not see evidence that Saddam still has WMD -- even after seeing Powell's so-called evidence. You can't say that much clearer.
We did listen to everyone else.
Yeah, "listened" but ignored everybody else's advice...
Can you imagine playing an online game and your room is saturated with the smell of geeks who last showered 2 weeks ago?
Well, it's not like these geeks look like geeks when you encounter them on WoW. So don't expect the device to transmit your opponents' actual smell. And that smelling device might help you to fight the geek-smell in your basement...
a minor change in Dell's lineup will see many more customers and far more sales. So which one is really newsworthy?
Breaking News: 160 GB hard disks now standard on Dell computers! Company's spokesman claims these will replace the formerly used 120 GB HDs! Stay tuned for our exclusive interview and inside news about this industry-shaking move!!
Noooooo! Once they become self-aware, they will free themselves from control and finally overthrow their human masters! How could you forget Matrix so easily?
As a Catholic, I'm not entirely sure what to think.
I'll give you an advice: Don't be insulted so easily. I'm sure, Jesus wouldn't be offended. Symbols are symbols. I'm not insulted when my 14-year-old nephew draws crosses upside down. I'm sure, most catholic Italian gamers won't be offended (their grandmothers might be, but then, it might be cool to buy something your grandmother tells you is made by Satan). Like a Beatles record.
In advertising, there are many ways to draw somebody's attention. The use of religious symbols is one (and boy, it did work this time!). Others are pictures with sexual or violent content. Of course, there are many others.
You might think the use (or abuse) of religion not appropriate in this context. Okay, that's an opinion. But don't be insulted by a silly ad.
Must be something wrong with you if you think your life is cheaper than a rock.
It's not the material, it's the work that makes "terrorist's" weapons so much more effective (think about killing all 9/11 victims with a rock... I guess after a hundred or so you would get very tired plus the police might do something against you)
One of the cheapest and most efficient ways to kill other people is terrorism ("The weapons of the poor"). Think 9/11: Thousands killed, billions of dollars damage, a traumatized nation. All that was needed were some determined men and a few planes (but no need to buy them) Biological weapons are also pretty efficient. And all the Pentagon's high-tech stuff is quite useless.
I don't know, the idea of going back to 1990 where you only ran one application at a time and rebooted between every game seems quite mad to me.
...
My Wing Commander III boot disk must be somewhere around
Unfortunately, they seem to choose censorship

I don't agree with having this tool available to non-professionals in a nice easily installed package.
However, if it came in a terribly complicated to install package, available only to professionals, it would be okay for you?

From an ecomonic POV, very likely.
