They were, likely, real rifles (M-16s probably), but just as likely, unloaded.
Sure, they may have had a mag inserted, but the chances of there being ANY ammunition in the weapon whatsoever is slim to none. If there was any, they were blanks, but there would be no point.
You're right, though, they would NEVER bring live rounds to any sort of demo.
Very true, but that brings up the question of when people refer to their 'machine', are they referring to the physical machine they have, or to the virtual one they may have?
I have a pirated copy of XP Pro here (seems relevant, or at least on topic), and WMP9 takes no longer than a second and a half to start up.
Then again, I rarely ever do anything on the windows box (here for the family) so maybe constant heavy usage may affect things a bit.
Bloatware? The entire WMP dir is what, 17 MB. Out of that, the WMP binary and the required DLLs comprise a whole 1.8 MB, with the WMP binary alone 72 KB. It never uses more than 7 MB RAM, even playing a playlist that contains more then 3 GB of MP3s.
Then one jackass changes the password, and locks everyone else out of the goods.
On a different note, I've gotten a few requests as well, I actually gave one person an invite (he chose technician@gmail, which i'm sure will be valued), but i'm saving the other for...I don't know what.
Yesterday I signed in to BlogSpot just to check for this, and when you log in to the main page, on the right hand side there is a GMail ad.
Click yes, answer yes to all of the questions that follow, and you have your very own GMail account.
I have had this for what, 24 hours now I guess, and GMail is the best webmail interface I've ever seen.
The one thing I don't like so far is that links, elinks, or links2 don't work with it. They do support javascript AFAIK which is what GMail is basically comprised of, but that's my only gripe.
Can't wait for POP or, preferably, IMAP access. Even more preferably, IMAP over SSL.
Good ol' CLI (heh TUI) based client, but uses OSCAR instead of TOC, which leads to a plethora of advantages. One of them, you can view away messages of people without actually sending a message to get it.
Also, it uses a buddylist as opposed to a mere list of who's on.

Windows XP struggles on a 1.2ghz Celeron with 128MB RAM
Is that so? Just to check how much system requirements really matter, I put XP Pro on my Latitude CP, which at the time was a Pentium 233, 64 meg ram, and a 2 gig hard drive.
It ran perfectly fine. Hardly any noticeable lag, booted up in about a minute. Worked perfectly for me as a desktop machine for the better part of 2 weeks, at which point I got a larger hard drive, and put on Slack and 2k pro.
Point being - I don't know what was wrong with your box, but XP Pro works fine on much less than a 1.2 gig with 128 meg ram. Hell when I upgraded to 128 meg ram myself, I put on 2k3 server, and that worked fine as well.
Here's a link to a page concerning removing the MiniPCI card from a Linksys WRT54g to use in your laptop's MiniPCI slot.
It's linked to from I think page 7 of the thread...on geocities and has images so likely will be showing an allocation exceeded error soon, so look while you can.
noob.
It's 'kthxbye'.
(note: not a troll...it's called humor)
Who said they were using live ammo?

The BlackHawk was a nice touch, though.
Well, Jaguar and Panther run fine for me on the stock 128 MB ram in my G3 iBook.
A bit of swapping at times, but otherwise fine.
In one of the screenshots, the one of Drake, there is a cat /proc/cpuinfo.
It's running at 10 MHz.

If he installs his OEM copy, he technically is using that copy on the one and only machine the license is for.

I say again - bloatware?
Hmm. Maybe Apple ? Because, you know, there is no company called 'Mac' that creates operating systems, or applications. mac.com is a portal for .Mac.
And you can't really list a website for Linux, short of kernel.org. Maybe DistroWatch.
Arescom NetDSL 800? :)
Now what excuse will we have in order to hold someone's hand?

I've never had emerge world break anything, and I run ~x86 and ~ppc.
On the other hand, WU...that's caused some issues.
Sorry, nope.
I have no more access than that gmail.pyra, now it just goes straight to the page showing that I've already made an account.
javascript:void(window.open('/gmail.pyra'));
Is the link.
There's an image header - http://blogger.com/g-logo.gif
As an active Blogger user, we would like to invite you to be one of the first to try out Google's new email service, Gmail.
Would you like to give it a whirl? YES / NO
The YES link opens up this page
The NO links pops an alert box saying 'Okay, this notice will be here for a few more days, should you change your mind.' or similar.
I haven't blogged in...wow, 2 months I guess, and I had the ad when I signed in.
Sadly, I've moved to LJ.
But yes, haven't blogged in a while, merely logged in to get a GMail account, and the ad was there.

Again?
Lucky bastard.
I just got an iBook G3 800 and have been trying to get my TRV-19 handycam working with it.
It's basically not detected as all, short of an external USB audio device. Yes, USB Streaming is set up on the camera (works fine on my windows box).
Any way to have this work under Panther? I only have the USB cable that came with it, and would prefer not to get the firewire cable.
So, any one have a clue?
I've used 2.6.0 through 2.6.2 on my machine with a KVM for a while now, never had an issue.
Probably just a problem with your KVM or setup.

Seriously though, why would someone do this?
Because they can.
