Stock price is not relevant in a vacuum, one must consider the number of shares. This metric is called market cap. Apple is somewhere around $400b, Samsung is a bit below $200b. Investor confidence was recently downgraded for Samsung.
Common mistake to compare a Prius to a subcompact. The sub will be cheaper and lighter, and some even get close to the same (highway) fuel economy. But it's still a subcompact.
Chevy Spark is 84 HP, 1.2L, curb weight ~2,400 lbs. Sticker mpg is 32/34/38.
The SL1 had 85 HP, 1.9L, curb weight ~2,300 lbs. Sticker mpg (adjusted by EPA to try and match the new tests) was 24/28/33 for 1993. Real world results on the government's website is 35 mpg with a sample of 2. On fuelly it's around 33, sample of 6.
AFAICT the SL1 did not have air conditioning. The Spark does (also a drag on mpg). The Spark has 10 air bags, the SL1 has one.
" For example using mpg (or kpl) it appears that a vehicle that gets 40 mpg is as much better than a vehicle that gets 20 mpg as a vehicle that gets 20 mpg is better than one that gets 10 mpg. "
It doesn't just appear that way, it's true. A doubling in mpg results in a halving of gal/100mi. You picked the wrong numbers to illustrate the difference between the metrics. Should use something like 10 mpg vs 15 mpg (10 to 6.66, 3.33 gallons savings) and then 30 mpg vs 35 mpg (3.33 to 2.86, 0.47 gallons savings).
This seems like a misunderstanding similar to how people misunderstand how tax rates work. A properly designed system would be 6% up to $10,000 and then 5% on sales from $10,000-$20,000.
There's really no way in hell that the "imminent threat" doctrine is used to drone Snowden. Whatever info he has, he has already distributed. Doing it now makes him a martyr, goes against stated positions, and is just a bad idea even without those considerations.
I was reading something recently about all the plane hijackings in the 60-70s. A common destination was Cuba, and hijackers thought they would be lauded as heroes. In reality, they were not considered heroes. Most had their freedoms restricted while in Cuba. Some were put directly into labor camps.

No, the weak reasoning is treating books and TV the same.
Avoiding book spoilers is relatively easy. For most books, not everyone is reading it at the same time (and same pace), fewer people are reading it in general, and book plots (let alone the existence of books) are rarely covered by mass media. Avoiding spoilers for a show that 5 million people watched last night and have already generated billions of words on the internet about, including mass media sites, is quite different.
That's exactly OP's point. Those of us who didn't live through fascism or WWII (which I am one of) make casual 'Soviet Russia' or Hitler references without any idea of what the reality was.
The previous efforts were about ~20% of the total project (in terms of earth moved), but ~45% of the total money spent. Both cases represent an usual definition of "most".

Please take your unsafe vehicle off the road until it has been equipped with the mandatory audible warning device.
Unfortunately with the new hours of service rules coming into effect, I think we're going to get even faster trucks.
Not that I'm against the new rules, but it's one of those unintended consequences.

Even if we put all cars on a diet, we'd still have 80,000 lb trucks on the road and thus the need for those barriers would remain.

Then change *that* law.
Common sense is a myth.

No *true* scotsman...
Actually it is never definitively shown what really happened.
Where "technicalities" = "huge differences in the basic facts of each case", sure.
Oh, *you've* never heard of it.. well that settles it then.

He is wrong, criminal charges were filed weeks ago.
A conviction at this point would represent trial in absentia and would be meaningless.

The South Carolina Occupational Therapy Association would like to have a word with you.
You got called on it, just admit you were wrong.. everyone can spot the bullshit deflections from a mile away.
Is it illegal for you to move to civilization?
