This was my point that I so ineffectively put across. If this was my kids, I'd be disappointed in the budgeting of the school in question. For the 97% of users who won't care about the differences between Linux and Windows, why waste their time confusing them with a system that's different to what they have at home, and different to what they'll more than likely be using when they start their first job. I'm all for Linux gaining traction, but I disagree that it should be via some impractical budget cut. Linux should be aiming to beat Windows by ultra useability, not simply being the bargain option. The fact that Microsoft are very easily getting away with limiting piracy via product activation techniques suggests that this way simply isn't working. I hope Linux isn't destined to be the 'cheap' option.

If you want those, stick to your PC. Live is much better, some games have proximity headset chat already, and it works well. Couple this with a friends list and you're laughing. I'm in a guild on WoW that mainly uses headsets, and it works really well, allowing you to get on with the game.

Joypad control is also better for third person/driving, which a GTA clone surely is.

Of course it benefits you. It allows much greater specialization and massive economies of scale, leading to reduced costs passed on to both the consumer directly and via development. You think that computer that you're using to type that on right now would be half as good if every single part was "Made in the USA"? Of course it wouldn't, it would be much more expensive, and in turn many less would have been sold, stifling innovation.

Without it you'd simply see those Western companies that outsource certain parts of their operations shutting down completely, as they'd be totally beaten on quality, price and innovation by companies in nations with lower costs of living.

I can't believe you've posted this. Do you think the average people who work in these places are stupid enough to bite the hand that feeds, over some vague dislike of another country? I'm a bit disappointed by the racism in this comments thread to be honest - you can't expect to get all the benefits of a global free market economy without any of the drawbacks. If your particular skill can be done adequately and cheaper somewhere else then that is what will happen. This is only news because it's in India, who have quite a few companies who are ahead of the curve in some skilled technical roles currently. It's time to stop bitching and retrain in a field that does have a shortfall. Try the services industry, like financial or legal. Or even medical.

wasd+mouse is rubbish for third person and driving games, which provide the bulk of great console games, and are much better, and are providing much more original gameplay week after week than just playing FPS/RTS all day every day. Not sure if you noticed, but the PC gaming market stopped innovating back in the 20th Century, when all the good gaming dev houses moved to consoles.

Sure, you can plug a joypad or a wheel in, but there's nothing but bad console ports and a tiny smattering of dull driving 'simulators'.
