Really? Even online checkers? The term "all" is a powerful word and implies something very specific, are you sure you meant that?

And what games are you specifically referring to?

If you enjoy LAN parties, I don't see why you wouldn't enjoy an Internet game with your friends. All the online console games I've seen have ways to set up password protected instances of the game and only allow your friends in. So what's wrong with that scheme? It's quite a bit easier to get a bunch of friends all in front of their televisions than to have them lug over computer equipment to your house - nevermind the fact that we're talking about console gaming in this discussion and the concept of a LAN party is fairly limited - Mario Kart being the only game that springs to mind as offering that functionality, although, if your friends are bringing their televisions over to your house, God bless them.

So, in short, back up your complaints with specifics. Let's hear some names of games you've tried.

Tried and it's not working the way you describe. I can use any of my USB ports and the behavior is always the same - no need for driver instllation. This is with a Windows XP Pro machine.

Now, about the rest of what you wrote - you're right, people learn how to use a computer and then it is becomes user friendly to them because they're familiar with the way things work. But there is another type of user friendliness that you're missing. It's that initial learning period when the user hasn't been trained with something. This is why the desktop metaphor came into being in the first place - a desktop is a known entity for most people and so translating that behavior to the behavior of a computer should be simple for a person. I'd continue but I don't really feel like discussing this issue at length. User friendliness is more about how intuitive a process is than how familiar a person is with that process. If I make a refrigerator that opens in the opposite direction of every other refrigerator made, it can still be user friendly if the design is done in such a way that it's clear to the user without thinking about it, how to open the refrigerator. I hope you can see that this is an inherently different view of user friendliness than the one you describe.

Just because someone is trying to do work late at night does not mean they have to do it late at night. It may be the case that someone prefers to do work late at night, just like some people prefer to do work during the day. Let's suppose that Person_A likes to do work in the afternoon and Person_B likes to take naps in the afternoon. The same situation exists and I wouldn't call either of these people "retards." Oftentimes people don't pick their study and work habits - it's just who they are. You're making the assumption that people who do work at night are only doing so because the work is due early the next day. Nowhere is this stated so I don't know why you are making that assumption.

Rather than insult people, why not try to offer some reasonable suggestions? For instance, if one roommate wants to go to sleep at 1 and the other wants to work till 3 - the person who enjoys the late night should do everything to make the keyboard/mouse as quiet as possible and then, do work until 2. Compromise but don't give up your entire way of doing work.

Only an idiot would suggest we look at raw numbers. Obviously we want to discuss percentages. Why would you even suggest this?

"Second, once again really only comparing Xbox and Gamecube, you can look at the ESRB ratings of the games for each system."
Does an ESRB rating of E really mean that a game is being marketed "towards kids"? I don't think so. There are plenty of games on those lists you linked to that are rated E and are not specifically meant for children.

" I did not include Playstation, because I wasn't going to look through the sheer volume of games there, to get a percentage. You can figure it out yourself."
But you made the statement and based a purchase on your belief in your statement - shouldn't you already know these numbers?

"So, in sheer numbers, Xbox has the smallest number of games marketed towards kids. Also, when comparing the ESRB ratings, once again, Xbox has the smallest number of games marketed towards kids."
Merely repeating it does not prove it.

"Now, pretty soon you should learn how to look up facts for yourself. It is difficult being an educated person, when you need other people to do all of the research for you. Or, even better- when something is a generally known fact, sometimes it is okay to just accept it, rather than being a pain in the ass and demanding proof."
Why the rude tone? Now, the simple fact is that just because what you are spouting may be a perceived fact - that does not mean it is true. Can you not consider the idea that perhaps you've been lied to and that through some clever marketing you've come to believe in what you are saying?

The government shouldn't be involved in setting community decency guidelines because then you've got a situation where political speech can be labelled as offensive and the general public can be prevented from seeing it. Video games are self-regulated and that's the way they should stay. Community groups can pressure EB, Walmart, etc. to enforce the ratings more stringently [although, I've seen employees at EB tell kids they were too young to buy a game without their parent's permission.] but the government should stay out.

Yeah, whenever I play online I always hesitate to play against people who pick the Falcons. Although, I've found that man coverage with a QB spy in the nickel is fairly effective at shutting that little operation down. The Falcons don't have enough skill at their receiver positions to make dedicating a man to stopping Vick a big problem. So Vick puts up 200 on you but throws a few picks or gets sacked a few times [the game is fairly good about making scrambling quarterbacks give up fumbles at a realistic rate] and you come away with the win because Atlanta's defense is laughable.

A couple of things: Speaking with regards to Madden 2004, the jersey numbers for the historical teams are not accurate. You can tell who the players are if you know what ones were supposed to be playing what positions but the numbers aren't accurate. I don't know about the rest of this years football games in that respect. Second of all, even if the Raiders team with Bo on it was selectable in a current game, odds are that his stats would not be what they were in Tecmo Bowl. The reason everyone mentions Bo Jackson is that his rating was way too high. I mean, the guy was good but relative to other players in the league, he wasn't at the level where that game had him. In a similar way, I think that Mike Vick's ratings in Madden this year are also artificially inflated. Again, he's fast and can scramble well but I don't think he can beat everyone in the league in the 40. But he's on the cover, so you've got to expect a little boost.
