    Hi,

I have 2 Mp3 players, one is the ChromeX150 from Iriver CD Based (http://www.iriveramerica.com/products/iMP-150.asp x) and the MPIO DMG (Flash Based) I notice alot of features like playable formats, boot up time, and well storage capacities. I for one which they would start adopting the Spdif audio, so you can incorporate the MP3 player into your home theatre, I know what you are going to say, why not use your DVD Player for that?

Well that is a valid point, and if I were ranting on a DVD player, I would. I think that dispite that technology has come far, and fast over the past few year, I am still curious why ever Car Audio players aren't capable of accepting spdif, and creating a surround sound experience.

I think it would be sweet to have the tweeters, speakers, and sub, all accepting the nice crisp sounds of surround sound either in 5.1, 6.1, or even 7.1 ...

The only mp3 player I found that has spdif as a feature is Archos Gmini 120 MP3 & WMA Player (http://www.directron.com/gmini120.html)

It's great to see that MS is exploring new ways to get into markets that are over crowded. I still can't wait to see if MS will release a version of Xp Pro / Home that the media has codenamed "Xp Reloaded" but as for myself, I will stick with Slipstreaming.

But MS has nerve to try to undercut Linux. Altho they don't specify which linux distro is being attach, it still reminds me of the attacks MS took on Lindows (www.linspire.com) and having to block Europe domains from accessing their product.

If MS was smart, they should prolly put more time and effort into developing their products, and try to release on schedule, instead of being corupt american business.

  7. Future Outlook on First Look At S-ATA Optical Storage Drive · · Score: 3, Insightful
I think that dispite the fact that many manufactures can not decide where technology is going, they should be making the standard.

Good example is DVD formats, DVD+R, -R, -RW, +RW, RAM (2x 4x 8x... I havent seen much development in 8x media, tho the drives have been out for about 4 months). In order for any format to survive, we need the pioneers to force the standard to be adapted, and only then can the industry move forward.

Hard Drives are the same way, I haven't seen any drive trying to change from the "standard" magnetic technology. Sure some are Trying different ideas, to reach that 1 terabyte drive and some trying holographic technology. (Story is dated back in 1996 -- http://www.businessweek.com/1996/16/b347193.htm)

People are relying on the Push of technology to drive their home computers, office computers, and Heck, most cars come with a better computer then what I am running.. So why not push all this new technology.

I think the article is good and basic for a newbie. Most people who use linux or a windows Power user , will prolly know how to search for Music, and export their email settings.. or just use web basd e-mail. On thing they could have mentioned in the article are the ever growing Live CD Distros (knoppix) which have all the free software and basic harware detection already built in. I know the article is for a user transfer. I think that they should have mentioned knoppix and using a shared drive, for a time before 100% switching over. One thing to mention are they intending to install on a Fat32 drive, because they mention about creating a Folder, Migration folder 1. Make a folder to hold all of your files to be migrated. a. Make subfolders b. Use all lower-case names c. No spaces But thru my knowledge of newbie users, and Linux, Most will Format the drive to RiserFS, EXT2, and EXT3 and usually want to parttion the drive for "/" "Swap" "/Home" and more advantced "/Etc" "/src" etc.. // Distros like Xandros will auto partition a drive so data is saved, but they need to inform people about how dangerous a linux installer can be, by doing things without prompt. But if later, the article mentions this, all will be forgotten.. \\ -- Information, for the Digital age, Canadian, Iam.

On the other hand, if they don't Fight, there is going to some pee'd off Share Holders.

IMO - I think they should just give up, and distribute what $ they have left, and go away from the world of computing.

I have read the review, and all the other ones that are floating around on the net, and yes, beside Knoppix (www.knoppix.net) Xandros is stepping in the right direction to complete the bridge for Home Linux users. Not to say Xandros doesn't have flaws (Slow Loading, No 2.6 Kernel, And it didnt get all my hardware). Then again Windows Xp didn't get all my hardware either. Either case, they have pretty much made a seamless gap for people looking try linux, and have the ability of dual booting. One of the features I enjoyed was their File Browers. It has been re-written to make it appear as tho you are in Windows, and don't have the evil Linux (*nx) file system Structure. Flaws with it: * Any game you play with a game pad - Need to download, and install modules. * Sometime when accessing your CDRom, it will say it doesn't exist, and has an error about mounting /var/.../../.. ? * Slow booting, and Shutdown * I have to manually force it to use ACPI 4 Not ACPI 3, 2,1 or APM 4,3,2,1 .. Why all the choices? * Xandros Networks has a button called "Update All" don't seem to work, or at least the 4 time I tried it. * And last but not least, Not a aXandros Only problem, some windows games will not work under WineX. Final Comment: -> Very stable, Using RiserFS works flawlessly, and you get one of everything.. (Browers, text editor, chat program)
