Maybe you were paying attention, but you didn't comprehend what was going on. They were trying to get it through without going through reconciliation. The Republicans refused to vote for anything no matter how many concessions were made. They wanted to make sure that Obama got nothing done so they can get back in to power. That is their strategy and even said flat out that they wanted health care to be Obama's waterloo. It had nothing to do with different political philosophies and everything to do with power. You are just to dense to understand what was going on.
You don't have your facts straight. If they were playing the game in single player mode with the cheats, they would not have been banned. They were using the cheats while connected to battle.net. Blizzard already supplies cheats that you can use, it will just disable achievements for the session. The only reason you would use the other cheats is to cheat achievement scores or cheat in multiplayer. They deserved to be banned.
Also, the article that "broke" the news was from the cheat site that released the cheats so it was heavily biased and lacked total disclosure.
Of course, it was eaten up by Slashdot since it supports their "Blizzard is evil" agenda as opposed to actually a search for facts and truth.

What? If he has his own account, then he could play using your copy. You mean he doesn't own the game and can't play the game logged in as himself. Well duh. Let him log in as you if you really want to let him play. You are an idiot.

I really wonder what world people like you live in. Who else but Blizzard has a track record for supporting games long after release? Blizzard supported Starcraft for 10+ year and it surely isn't WoW. You have to be incredibly stupid or biased to make a statement that Blizzard is only influenced by WoW. SC2 was influenced by the people who made SC1 in to an eSport for example. If WoW didn't exist, customers still would have been angry, still would have voiced it, and Blizzard still reacted.
Can you play all the games you could on the PC in the 90s? No, you actually can't unless you are still running Windows 95. Go pull out those discs and see if they run. So what do you do if you want to play them? You download some emulator and the binary for the game and you plat it. But nice try. It will be the same way for Diablo 3 in 15 years.
You can play Blizzard games in offline mode, so not an issue here.
There isn't an install restriction either. Hell, once you register it online you can download it anywhere on to any computer. Complain away, but it isn't Blizzard.
Any restriction you come up with will be patched out either by the developers or hackers. So your "What if....what if...what if...." is just that. You make a mountain out of a molehill. Truly, you are like a Tea Partier. What if Obama isn't really a US citizen and a secret Muslim? Ugh...ok...
Oh yes, you are soooo brave. Complaining about DRM and LAN on here almost always gets modded up. You truly have incredible guts to risk being modded insightful.
Blizzard understands its customers a lot more than you think. They wanted to create a competitive eSport wiht SC2. Cheating and hacking destroys that. That is why they ban people who cheat. I had no problem having a LAN party with 8. It's 2010, not 1990.
But really, don't buy it...or do buy it. It really doesn't matter because it will sell anyways because Blizzard makes great games. Slashdot focuses on one issue (that has never interfered with my ability to enjoy the game) and misses the big picture. They make really really good games.
His point doesn't make any sense. SC2 just came out and it has one of the best single player experience I have ever encountered. It also has an incredible focus on competitive multi-player. Why would you assume that Diablo would get away from its roots? It will most likely be better, yet now have new/deep PvP content that will make it even more enjoyable. You can still be anti-social and you will still like it if SC2 is any gauge on what the company is doing.
You figured it out...since it is not worth it please don't post about Blizzard any more. I am not trolling, I will give you logic to back this up.
Your post has nothing to do with the article. You are completely offtopic.
We live in a time when LAN play is not necessary. I understand that every Slashdotter doesn't have an Internet connection and has to play LAN (yet posts 1000 times a day somehow magically) but for the rest of the sane world, we have an Internet connection and it has not been an issue. I had a SC2 "LAN" party at my house and had no issues supporting 8 players.
You got your information on Blizzard banning hackers from the hacking site that created the hack! Can you say biased? Blizzard gives you hacks that you can use already, it just disables your achievements. People would not be banned if they used the custom hacks in offline mode and that is what the hack site recommended. In other words, the users were WARNED and KNEW they could get in trouble for doing it. The only reason to use the hacks online was to cheat in multiplayer or cheat to get achievements. People who actually play the game feel there is MORE VALUE from the game when there are less cheaters. So you are horribly under-educated about what is going on and your opinion is based off irrational Slashdot group think.
If people actually posted anything that mattered on here other than just circle jerking, this site would have a lot more value. But it doesn't anymore. It is just everyone making the same predictable points on every topic. I know exactly what you are going to say when it comes to Blizzard, Sony, Microsoft, Apple, SCO, Second Life, Ubisoft, EA....you offer absolutely nothing of value. Nothing. You just mod each other up for things you agree with rather than anything that is on topic or truly insightful. You and your type make me sick and have destroyed any use this site once had.
I am totally with you. It is impossible to read games.slashdot.org anymore. No one talks about the topic. They all have some reason why the corporation is evil and how everyone should boycott and pirate. Same predictable posts get modded up while interesting discussion goes no where. Slashdot is overrun with ideologues trying to out Libertarian each other. Please, we all know you think Blizzard evil. Just stfu and don't comment unless you actually want to talk about the game. If you aren't playing, your opinion is useless to anyone with a brain to think for themselves.
If you played SC2, you would know they figured this out already. That's why the single player stats and units are different from multiplayer. Of course, ignornace is modded up here.
Because the stuff they do is only evil to the insane Libertarian slant on Slashdot. Because SC2 is better than pretty much any game ever made as far as polish and attention to detail?
Utter nonsense. Considering a whole genre was launched from WC3. They offer map editors that specifically encourage you to make mods and mess with the game. It was a huge effort to do it. And you are worried about what they could do. Seriously, the dumbest posts in this thread have been modded up.
Yeah, and look how much money they made. They are morons that are superior to you in every way. So what does that make you? Banning players that cheat is actually quite popular with people who play the game.
So you want a game with no network access but you want to have multiple accounts on the network. Uh, what? You want to make a bunch of account so that once you are platinum rated you can go pick on people in silver...ok, maybe you don't want to do it, but see why they wouldn't let you do it. If you take a second and think, Blizzard has reasonable and rational policies to keep things fair.
Your SC3 mistake aside, your message is dumb an uninformed. Blizzard allows you to cheat. If you wanted to use these other cheats, you could have used them in offline mode and suffered no issues. These people chose to cheat in online mode so they could either ruin other people's ladder ranking or get achievements they didn't earn. They completely deserve the ban. You are like someone in the Tea Party. Screaming and crying yet not knowing what you are talking about.
WoW has done so many things right and it keeps getting better and more refined. Now they are even updating old areas. I really wonder if anyone can dethrone WoW. Even WoW 2. I would think they could just keep updating WoW and making it better and smoother and no one will ever touch it until someone takes control and completely screws it up.
Everything was new when you were 14...not really better. I agree with you on a lot of what you wrote though. The games industry was new so everything had to be creative because there was nothing to copy. But there were a ton of crap games. A ton of impossibly hard games. Lots of bad writing. But we put up with it because we were kids and this was all new and cool.
Today the most popular of those games became genres. While there is still innovation, it is at a much lower degree because certain things are just inherently defined by the genre. But since it has been refined, they have become very good. And like you said, there are still great games out there being made like Lost Odyssey. Some of our old favorites are getting a bit long in the tooth, but there are still more great games out there than I have time to play.
That's why I think people are looking too fondly at the past. We have it really good right now.
I still think that is just you seeing it through the eyes of when you were 14. Don't get me wrong, I love 6 as well and am not saying it is a bad game. But I think there is just more wonder when you are young at something like this. I mean, I compare it to say Starcraft 2 and it is blown away in almost every aspect. Now we are old and jaded and remember the good ol' days. But I think gamers have it much better now than then.
Maybe you were paying attention, but you didn't comprehend what was going on. They were trying to get it through without going through reconciliation. I wouldn't expect that at all. You can write as much or as little as you want natively. Why are you making stuff up?
After 5+ years, everything become too much of the same or too many changes.
Maybe Linux game developers should try coming up with their own games rather than copying others.

Too bad. It is seriously the best game I have ever played and I have been playing since the first Atari/Nintendo.

Not saying that you will like the others. But that has to be the worst of all the games you could have possibly chosen in the series.
WoW has done so many things right and it keeps getting better and more refined. Now they are even updating old areas. I really wonder if anyone can dethrone WoW. Even WoW 2.
