So despite disagreeing with me...you agree with me in the end when you say that it isn't guaranteed that they will be #1. That is the only point I was trying to make. Being a leader in one gen doesn't mean you get a free pass the next gen.
Like what, Sunshine? Though, that isn't really fair considering how poorly the Gamecube sold. I think the main problem with your theory is that people who are buying the Wii right now aren't the type of people who buy many games. They basically got the Wii for Wii Sports and they aren't going to get anything else until there is Wii Sports 2 or some other game that is more casual/social. Mario games aren't really casual games (unless they totally re-design it to be which would totally alienate their core). And it doesn't seem like people have as much nostalgia with games post-NES era as they did with the NES and the Atari.
I am not saying Galaxies won't deserve to sell more (who knows since it isn't even out anyways). I am just saying that most Xbox360 owners are going to get Halo3 while a lot of people with Wiis will still be playing Tennis.
I really don't think Halo can be considered a flavor of the month. I know it isn't very popular on this site since everything Wii == good and everything MS == bad (and that people here hate FPSs for some reason), but you have to give the game credit that it deserves...even if it isn't your thing.
But we will see. The Mario platformers got a bit old for me years ago. Though I still like the Zeldas and Metroids.
Adventure games had fighting in them...good ones too. I can't remember if it was King's Quest...but I remember practicing my knife throwing skills on a painted target so I could destroy some baddies trying to ambush me in a canyon. Sometimes there are fighting elements to the story. You have two choices...make the player watch or make it interactive. Both can work and will appeal to different people.
Dreamfall just wasn't a very good game. I mean, it served its purpose well enough (my girlfriend and I would sit down and play it together...so she got to spend time with me and I got to play games). But they really didn't finish the story part (nor did I think it was that well written) and the controls weren't really there. If the fighting was good, I don't mind having it in there. If it had fighting like God of War, it would be a nice break from the true adventure part of it...because playing that type of game is just really fun.
Basically, bad games are bad games and good ones are good ones. Nothing has to fit in a specific genre if it is executed correctly.
I predict Halo 3 will easily sell more than Mario Galaxies. And you can't see a sharp spike for the Wiis since they are sold out and Nintendo seems to be doing nothing to increase production.
Yes, because the people who make the console that sells the most in one generation, sells the most in the next generation. Oh yes, and Nintendo has never made mistakes in the past. Right?
No, it's a troll because he puts things in there that are factually inaccurate. I am fine when people say things I don't agree with...but I am tired of the FUD.
So, you are saying that if you held in your cursing you would kill people? I think you should probably see a therapist.
There is a lot of ways to vent frustration. If you want to be a professional, you will do it in appropriate ways or do it in private. That is just how it works. Just because doing something negative has a positive result doesn't mean that it should be encouraged. For example, they could show that people who beat their children at home will be able to focus better and be more productive at work.
Instead of doing something negative, find a positive way to release stress. Step away from the computer and go get some coffee. Talk to a team member about the problem you are having and have them take a look at it while you explain it to them (I don't know how many times I figured out a problem doing this). Get a stress ball, do push ups, take a few minutes to stretch. There are a ton of positive things you could do that will be much more beneficial. It might cause some team members to work better together, but odds are you are alienating many as well.
Pathetic that obvious common sense can't be applied by "researchers".
I wonder what magical world exists where people got all this free stuff for PC games from developers in the past. Other than bug fixes, developers (in general) will release a game and then release patches for bug fixes after that (maybe small balancing patches as well). They don't work on new content for the game unless it is an expansion pack. Otherwise, they move on to a new project. The free stuff that was put out there were made by the community...and guess what, that is still happening. And developers are aware of that and often try to design more modability in to their game design.
What we have now is new. We have developers adding content to a finished game. Of course they want to get paid for this, otherwise it is pointless for them and they could be used to work on new projects or expansions. If you don't want more content from the developers, don't pay for it. There is plenty of community mods/addons for you out there.
Admittedly, what the GP post said was inflammatory. But church going folk tend to be some of the least tolerant people out there. In general, they aren't big supporters of video games, they don't like gays, they don't like people with different beliefs than their own. Of course, I know some church goers who are wonderful people and very tolerant. But in general, religion makes most people less tolerant rather than more.
I always found "The Passion of the Christ" thing a bit amusing. That sounds wrong...I didn't even see the movie itself, but I know a lot of people who took their kids to see that movie despite the R rating and the violence. It just sets up a double standard where sex and violence in the Bible is ok but in any other setting it is destroying our kids' minds.
But I am positive this is the first time church goers have been caught being hypocritical.
What you describe reminds me of a half life mod..natural selection. Has wall walking and two distinct classes. Doesn't really sound all that revolutionary...unless it came out before NS of course.
As much as people complained, I was really worried about the leveling system. After playing a large portion of the game, I can say the leveling system they have works very well and isn't as nearly as broken as people try to make it out to be.
Why should it be free? These aren't things that needed to be in the game. The original game with no addons is huge and enjoyable. They still work on the game after the fact so I don't see why they shouldn't be paid for their work. Yes, patches to fix bug fixes should be free (which they are), but I see nothing wrong with what they are doing. If you don't want to pay for it, no one is forcing you to buy it. This isn't an MMO where they get a monthly fee to keep adding content.
Let's pretend what the Parent post said was true. If they were to go to EA, it wouldn't be because they wanted EA to run the MMO. It is because they would want access to the giant money vault so they could make it happen.
I will do my best to respectfully disagree with you. Do you know the definition of physical? Heck yes you are playing the character from a physical distance. You don't get blood splattered on you if you kill someone. And as far as psychological distance...maybe you have problems with this, but normal people don't. I am not role-playing Kratos. I still strongly know the difference between myself and the character on the screen swinging around weapons. Kratos is explicitly rewarded for his kills. I personally do not benefit from this. When the game is over I do not try to kill people or am confused that I don't have giant muscles or I suddenly grew a bunch of hair.
It certainly is more interactive...but if you don't think there is a physical or psychological distance from yourself and the characters you play, you have serious problems and should avoid playing video games.
Yeah, but acting out horrific acts in a video game doesn't bother me either. Obviously, I have a clear line between fantasy and reality. Some people don't and they are the ones you have to watch out for. But you can't really know what will set those people off. They could have seen a video on the mating of black widows. Should we ban nature?
Well, I might be wrong but that voice is only used in short clips. That really doesn't bother me. But maybe this is similar to Bush where if it tries to cobble a full sentence together it becomes extremely annoying.
This will only appeal to the fans of the series (i.e. people who already are going to buy it anyways). Anyone else is probably going to be turned off by it and only purchase it despite the commercial (probably off a friend/game site recommendation).
I am looking forward to the Orange Box...but that has to be one of the worst commercials they could have made. That voice is extremely grating and annoying...and they spend as much time in an orange screen as they do showing game clips. This goes to reinforce my theory that 90% of people who make commercials are abusing a substance.
I don't understand why you don't understand. Webmail is easy to set up and there is never a question if your can get access to it. Any system connected to the Internet will have a browser and therefor you will have access to your mail. Some people don't want to (or know how) to have their own domain and run their own mail server.
So you read the terms and conditions and you are worried because your privacy rights could be violated. Do you send e-mail to anyone with these accounts? Do you encrypt your e-mail? Unless you send all your mail to other people running their own mail server and encrypt all your mail...then everything is moot. If you wrote terms and services to your own e-mail system it would say the same thing since you can't even guarantee your own privacy as soon as you click send.
These sites offer free space that they backup for all for just showing you a few ads. And not all of them sign you up for mailing lists.
Really, gmail is a win-win situation for the company and consumers. I can understand if some people would not want to use it. But I can't understand why someone would not be able to understand why everyone else does use it.
Now it is painfully obvious that the PS3 is better and actually cheaper
I'm sorry. I don't care how good you think the hardware is or how good of a value it is...a console with few to no good games doesn't have a chance against the 360. That's the only thing that is painfully obvious to me.
Clearly you must not be the only one since you were modded insightful. But I really don't know what you guys are looking at. In every head to head picture the DX10 looks far superior. Maybe hatred of DX10 and Vista is causing people to have selective sight or something.
So despite disagreeing with me...you agree with me in the end when you say that it isn't guaranteed that they will be #1. That is the only point I was trying to make. Being a leader in one gen doesn't mean you get a free pass the next gen.

Then Nintendo is stupid. Why would you stockpile something when it is selling out now? So you can sell it out months from now?

Does it hurt to not be able to tell when someone is joking?
No, it's a troll because he puts things in there that are factually inaccurate. I am fine when people say things I don't agree with...but I am tired of the FUD.
You have serious anger issues. Maybe you should step away from the computer.
Why does a troll get modded up? Because it mentions the Wii?
So, you are saying that if you held in your cursing you would kill people? I think you should probably see a therapist.
