What kind of weird logic is that? If they put it on the DS first, then there is really no reason to ever get a 360. If they release it on the 360 first, it might actually move a few consoles in Japan since there seems to be a lack of good JRPGs on the next gen systems right now.
Players that are new don't need new content. There is plenty of content at the lower levels for them to go through. It is only boring if you are leveling many characters to 70. I don't see the complaint for a new player though...they have all that content that we had (plus more beginner zones).
Really, you want to keep the people playing so you need to please the end game people. They are the ones that have played the longest and invested the most. The early game content (while dated) is still quite good.
I agree, the cop acted inappropriately. But the cop wouldn't have even been there if the guy just showed his receipt. Two wrongs don't make a right. So stand up against the cop, but not for this guy.
How sad is the state of things on Slashdot. Did you notice that you're surrendering to group-think paranoia? Don't try to deny it, you know you are. You believe what Slashdot comments tell you. It's so sad that most Slashdotters think like you. "The authorities over-reacted to the situation and should have been able to visually tell there wasn't a threat" actually means "I am an arrogant prick that thinks that the job the police and security do is easy. Cops all are on ego trips and constantly abuse their authority. There are no good cops out there that risk their lives to protect others. And when a bomb does it make through security, I am going to blame them for being corrupt and no good at their jobs. And any time they act reasonably and people agree with what to do I will tell them they are surrendering to fear." But hey, that's the way Slashdotters think! "Mouth off first, think later".
Honestly, my friend, I don't know what is wrong with you to have such a skewed opinion of the world...but you shouldn't get every opinion in that little head of yours from Slashdot.
I doubt he is out that much money. He had a pay pal site up and I know he had at least some donations.
The thing that drives me nuts about this is that it all could have been avoided if he just showed his receipt. What is wrong with this guy? These stores are victims of constant theft. In order to prevent this, they add a little bit of security. Think if you owned a store and had people stealing things out of it...wouldn't you want this? And then this prick comes along and tries to rush out without showing that he purchased the item. What are you going to think? I know I would think he was trying to steal something.
The guy is a jerk and completely unreasonable. He wasted the time and money of his own and of others just to satisfy his own ego. But Slashdot has some sort of anti-authority sentiment and don't like being told what to do even if it is reasonable.
Here of all places I figured that nerd wouldn't have a negative connotation. So why are we getting so upset about being called nerds? Is this the new "N" word. We can only call each other nerds and if anyone else does we will make them go on radio shows and apologize? Lighten up. The guy apologized and was just trying to add a little humor to what he wrote.
I swear, with Christians flipping out over an emmmy speech that was a joke, people losing their jobs for calling some girls nappy headed hoes...I really don't get why people have to take everything so seriously. I am getting incredibly offended that everyone is getting so offended (as hypocritical as that sounds).
Yes, that's brilliant! Good thing there isn't an IQ test to get on to Slashdot.
The guy did escalate it. He resisted arrest. He refused to stop struggling and fighting and to stop it from escalating further (getting cops, the good guys, injured), they zapped the jerk. If he didn't resist arrest, then the situation wouldn't have happened.
But I love your idea...let's taser the people who risk their lives to protect stupid people like you. I hope someone tasers your balls so you can't reproduce.
Why would you believe what Sony would say about their competitor's product? The original Xbox was what they used to break in to the market and learn from. It had a short cycle because they wanted to take what they learned and be first to market this time around. Things do change with each generation, you know.
Not going to happen. Not through Second Life anyways. They can't control the content on your server. You would destroy the value of the the Linden dollar. You are basically saying, "I want second life to change just for me and who cares if it is a viable business model exists for them."
I don't think MS can do anything to break in to the Japanese market. Blue Dragon was the attempt to break in that people were talking about...though having Eternal Sonata exclusive would have helped. If I were MS, I would fight to make that new content freely downloadable. But if you look at the NPD numbers there, the 360 sells so little. I really wonder if it is the games or if it has something more to do with some sort of negative bias. I can understand why they didn't like the original xbox...but I thought MS did more things right with the 360 this time around (well, with the exception of so many hardware failures).
The problem is these things become circular. With so little units out in Japan, Japanese developers have less incentive to create games for the system and thus less Japanese gamers will be interested. It's not all bad new for the 360 though. They have really shown that they can sell the most software (worldwide numbers) despite being more Wii's out there. So far it seems the casual sector seems to be a great place to sell consoles, but it looks like they are going to be buying less games. So far, that is the only risk I see to the Wii (which doesn't matter to Nintendo since they are taking cash baths). Of course, the PS3 looks pretty screwed at this point. But with its hardware it can have a long life cycle and maybe stage a minor comeback later in its life.
Yeah, funny how that works. No matter what crazy way people want to define art, video games still fit right in. The only definition of art that doesn't include video games would be something like, "Art is music, books, pictures, and movies but not video games."
Ok, if you are going to have to have this discussion AGAIN, let's at least discuss it honestly. Yes, bnetd was a server. No argument there. But for you to say that it had absolutely nothing to do with piracy is a flat out lie. bnetd did enable piracy because it allowed people who did not buy the game to play each other online (no cd key check). The primary users of bnetd were people who did not buy a copy of the game. I have absolutely zero sympathy for bnetd because of this...plus the fact that Blizzard does not charge for their battle.net service and that it is still running today...after all these years. Blizzard is about the least evil large company you are going to find. If you aren't going to support them over bnetd, then you have either never written software or lack the ability to understand the situation that Blizzard was in.
Very few people are going to object if you call "Les Mis" art. But is Harry Potter art? Certainly, it has been read by more people then most all other literature. But it is a story written primarily for children (nothing wrong with adults loving it) that is more about entertaining than challenging the reader. Fantasy and sci fi has always struggled to be recognized as art. It takes a move like LOTR to show that fantasy can be as good as movies like the Godfather or The good, the bad, and the ugly.
This is part of the problem with video games. Like Harry Potter, they are in a fantasy world and the art snobs perceive it as being geared towards children. But I have found few other things in art that moved me as much as Aeris's death in FF7. And I think I am not alone in that. Really, the old generation that didn't grow up with video games will have to die off before video games get the respect they deserve.
Uhh, because there are plenty of games that do make us happy? I don't see how 1 game that elicits emotion like Bioshock is an example of every major game on the market.
There is no real problem. Replace "having fun" with "being entertained" or "seeing something that challenges your mind" and you see that games have everything in common with art. Art is made for the enjoyment of others. No different from games.
How does advertising the speed of the connection have anything to do with telling you how much you are allowed to download? They are just saying that this is how fast you can optimally download a file. Not that you can use that rate 24/7.
Beyond that, you used the "up to" limit in your calculation. It would be different if that was "at least 12Mb/s" which means they are offering some sort of guarantee. My car drives up to 160 mph, but the fastest I ever drive it is between 80 and 90 mph and I don't drive it at tht speed 24/7.
I don't see how that makes them legally liable for anything and the people on here are just over reacting. All these people who are getting cut off seem to deserve it as they are degrading the service of everyone around them. They get told to reduce their activity and they don't so they get cut off. Seems fair to me and I have little sympathy to people who are being so selfish.
It may be surprising to note that lots of people still use the internet for email, downloading songs, and sharing pictures. Shocking, I know. If you were to pick something else, what would you pick? Videos? Those are extremely variable in size.
3MB has long been considered the average for an mp3. For most people, that is good enough. They are not dealing in exacts here so I don't see why the big rant. It makes you look nuts. If you actually use 118GB a month and haven't had a problem, then there is no need to complain. There has already been lots of people that have given reasonable theories on why they don't give an exact number. I think the best is that in certain areas where there is a high concentration of people, they would set the limit lower. In an area where they have fewer customers, they can allow them to do as much as they want and it won't degrade service for others. Slashdot loves to make people seem way more evil than they are.

Once again, I should remind the mods that disagreeing with someone is not an acceptable reason for modding someone down :)

The sun will come up tomorrow.
This can't be 100% confirmed, but still, I will guarantee you it is going to happen.
Why would you miss it? If you have it, just keep using and don't use rumble unless there is some game that really requires it.
How would you know that until you actually played it? Jeez...did someone get a cynical enima this morning or are you always this way?
That's not really a fact. There is no typical with the Xbox considering we are just on its second iteration.
Why would you believe what Sony would say about their competitor's product? The original Xbox was what they used to break in to the market and learn from. And apparently, the lack of games too ;)

You are only allowed to list games that are actually out.

Or you could just stop downloading so much crap and find a new hobby. :)
