Honestly, I didn't think Halo was anything horribly special myself. Just when I see this attitude on here it really ticks me off. It wouldn't have bothered me other than the fact that people modded that garbage up. I can relate to getting sick of fanboys. The Nintendo fanboys on Slashdot drive me absolutely nuts. But I don't tear in to them for liking Nintendo (heck, I love Nintendo, just hate the fanboys). So I can understand being frustrated...but still, that doesn't make that acceptable behavior nor worthy of being modded up.

Yes, and even if you are in the best guild you are running Naxx over and over again or the lower instances to help out the new members of your guild. You are still grinding the same storyline. And killing thousands of critters to get exalted rep is not innovative and exciting. All of end game is socialization. If you think there is a lot of game there, you are kidding yourself and just trying to justify your addiction.

Uh, I know WoW end game, I was in it. And saying that it is shallow and the exact same storyline is 100% accurate. The fact that you have to run ZG 100 times to get everyone equipped for AQ...then run AQ 100 times to get ready for Naxx, etc etc. It means you have to play the exact same thing over and over again. This is a grind and this is shallow. If there was 100 of end game instances then it would be interesting. Having 4 or 5 that you have to grind over and over again is not rich! It sounds to me like you haven't really experienced WoW end game. It is extremely painful and boring after the first few times you run a new instance.

Obviously, if you want to hack a game, the PC would be the way to go. But if you just like playing games, then consoles are perfectly acceptable alternatives.

That is an incredibly stupid litmus test. Do you base every action you do on whether or not you will be proud to tell your children about it? Of course not...who cares what your (potential) kids think. If this is something you want then I see nothing wrong with camping out for it. It could be a lot of fun (apart from being unlucky and camping at a location where violence occurs). Also, camping out for it could net a very nice profit...more than you would make working at most jobs. Some people get excited about things...just let them have a good time. The people who are robbing and shooting, they are just criminals exploiting a situation. I am sure you have bought frivolous, high-priced items as well. Do you have more money than brains?

Just because you didn't like the game, doesn't mean everyone who did were a bunch of "know-no-better kids". It is beyond me how intolerant garbage like your post gets modded up.

On the other hand, it doesn't surprise me that much. There are just too many people on here that feel the only way to be cool is to trash the things other people like. By saying something that is popular is uncool, suddenly you feel special and more knowledgable on gaming. Get over yourselves. People like different things. By all means, talk about its lack of innovation, the fact that there are better games out there, that there are better FPS's out there. That can spawn healthy and interesting debate. But just belittling people that like something you don't? Come on, try to act civilized.

While I agree with what you are saying, I don't think that is the point the author is making. They are simply saying that Halo did very well on the Xbox. Due to this success, it spawned many other games that tried to follow the same formula (again, on the Xbox). It isn't saying it invented the marine-shoots-alien games. It's saying other companies tried to copy its formula by using the same format...and that those games failed.

WoW is not years of quality gaming. After the few months of leveling to max (which was fun and interesting to me), you just grind the same places over and over again. It's like reading the same storyline every time you log in. It becomes a competition with a group of other people for items. The only thing enjoyable is spending time with the friends you make. End game is very shallow. You can get involved in just about any MMO community and have years of the same level of quality game play.

The best way to give a gift is to really think about that individual and come up with something that will make them happy. You have to figure something out that they wouldn't go and buy for themselves...something that will surprise them. Giving someone something they didn't even know they wanted is great. If someone in my family made me something for x-mas...I would think it would be fairly silly unless they has a fixed income and that was all they could afford to do...then it would mean something. But if you are just making whatever you feel like and giving it to people...that's not really personal, that's just odd. I could be wrong here and maybe you are incredibly talanted and come up with things people love...but next time you give a gift, really look at the reactions and see if your "deeply personal" gifts aren't just tolerated instead of enjoyed.

I disagree. The PS3 will sell out everywhere (even if it is just because people want to ebay them). Big name developers are already on board. 22. Re:morons on Midnight Best Buy Launch Locations for PS3 · · Score: 1

*sigh* I really don't understand this attitude on Slashdot. Because someone is a fan of a different console you think they are a moron. You sit there and stereotype people who would want one: "madden/sports crowd and lower middle class teenagers that somehow have $600 to throw away". Yet freak out when they label people who like Nintendo games as "kiddie".

I find it telling that people on here are just attacking consoles and ignoring the games. Games are what make the console. Yet instead of arguing the merits of one game vs another, you attack the company (arrogant), their practices (rootkits), and their decisions (blu-ray, price, lack of rumble). It's very telling that it is just bias and rampant fanboyism on here. I think it is this groupthink that holds Slashdot from being taken seriously. Rather than arguing any sort of cohesive point, you just say "I am going to buy a Wii because it is cheaper and Sony is evil" and you get modded up. We positively reinforce people we agree with rather than modding them appropriately. That's why all you see are positive posts about Nintendo. We mod to oblivion anyone who likes the playstation and thus lack any interesting debates. It just feeds on itself. Turn off more people with counter views and bring in more morons that parrot what the majority is saying. It's a true flaw with Slashdot (and any site with forums with moderation I would imagine). We just don't get the whole picture. If you stayed in here you would think everyone runs Linux on apples and own everything with the word Nintendo on it.

The Wii DOES offer some cool new possibilities. Don't get me wrong...I can see why people are excited about it. But you have to understand there are counter views out there. From the videos I have seen, a lot of the games look incredibly stupid. They may well be a blast to play, but it is just visually jarring to play some games where it looks like you are controlling the AOL logo. Clearly, there are games that look amazing on there (I was particularly impressed with Zelda). We all know that graphics has nothing to do with gameplay. But Wii sports just looks like it was thrown together by amateurs. These are more of a demo to show the capabilities of the controller, but it reflects poorly on the console and reinforces the image that it isn't for adults. I don't care if their ads show a bunch of hot 20 somethings looking like they are having fun playing it...it just isn't appealing. And you have to laugh when you see the muscular "cool" guy playing metroid and making it seem so intense. Or the guy playing Red Steel and then meditating afterwards because he killed a guy with his sword. Just sillyness.

In any case, just drop the bias and let other people with valid opinions to live here as well. I am sure stores are excited about the Wii...if they aren't, if sales do well, they will get excited fast. Unfortunately just because the vocal majority on here sings the praises of the Wii it does not mean that this is true with the majority of gamers. Time will tell. Please, just stop being a jerk about it.
