Why is it wrong? Anyone who wants to see multimedia content on the web has the Flash plugin installed. Why worry about the assortment of video plugins when you can just encapsulate it in a Flash file and be done with it? I've had problems with videos embedded in web pages, but whenever they are in a Flash file, they work perfectly. It may not be what Flash was intended for or even the ideal solution, but it works well.
Then again, this is Slashdot, where saying any proprietary solution is bad gets modded up.
The parent post is modded funny, but what the poster said is true. DOS programs running on Windows XP run on top of a DOS emulator, and on Linux, you could run those same programs using DOSBox, an arguably more complete emulator than the one included in Windows.
The elusive step two has been discovered!

1. Buy lots of 2.4 GHz phones and plug them in all over downtown Spokane.
2. Rob a bank.
3. Profit!
The key is this sentence in the third paragraph about electrolosys: "Electrolysis systems are around 60% efficient." They begin their efficiency numbers for hydrogen based on the electrolysis step, not taking the input of solar energy into their calculations.
That's because electrolysis splits water into hydrogen and oxygen, using the hydrogen to combust later for energy. Solar energy is never involved in this cycle since it isn't used to make water. However, plants harness energy from the sun to make various products. You conclude that there is a difference in their assumptions, but no assumptions are made.
How about this for a concept car - one that actually gets more than 50 miles per gallon - that addresses today's problems in the real world where people need to haul stuff and other people around on a budget and where energy is limited.
1) The PM is electric.
2) Since the PM is smaller, it takes less energy to move it.
Look at all the statistics mentioned elsewhere other threads, like 88% of people driving alone in their cars on a daily basis. Multiply that by the difference between the energy needed to move a sedan and the PM, and that's how much energy you're saving. Your concern for the environment should cause you to be a proponent of these vehicles. The more prevalent these vehicles are, the cheaper they will be and the easier it will be for those not in "the highest level of society" to obtain. While a desirable solution, mass transit requires a lot of infrastructure. Sure, there should be a movement towards mass transit, but it's going to take a hell of a long time for non-pedestrian oriented cities like Houston to complete the transition. These vehicles are a step in the environmentally conscious direction. There are a few practicality issues, but your environmental concerns are unfounded.
Every time I see his name, I remember Bewilderment + Exposure = Obvious. That was one of the questions on the final (which is composed of questions Schram wrote for the book) for my class. Bastard cost me a few points with his bullshit. I don't even remember what point he was trying to make with that.
We vote, someone wins - does our vote mean anything at the margin?... no, so as an individual we have no power selecting government.
You do realize that governments where an individual has "power selecting government" as you state are called dictatorships right? Do you really think freedom means getting your way all the time? Democracy is rule by the people, not rule by each person. If you want rule by each person, I think anarchy (absence of government, not chaos) is what you're looking for.
Your evidence for lack of freedom, the monitoring of communication, is not lack of freedom. Try going somewhere where you'll be killed for protesting against your government. Appreciate the rights you have and fight to make sure they don't erode instead of whining that they don't exist in the first place.
Comparisons between genetic engineering and selective breeding are just false. One is manipulating a natural process while the other is inserting foreign DNA into a plant. How can we be sure of the consequences of doing this when we don't even fully understand cellular processes? Contrary to popular Slashdot belief, there are very real reasons to be cautious as we develop genetically modified organisms. For more information about how GMO's work and why we should slow down, read through this paper and some of there references it uses.
So... if they used the median instead, they would come to the conclusion that the average American has no testicles since there are more women than men in America. Is that really any better? I don't want North Korea thinking we have no balls.
I had a class with this professor earlier this year. This really explains his teaching style... he must have done his beer "research" each day right before he lectured...
A sequel has just been announced for the sequel to the critically acclaimed movie, You Got Served. This film, entitled You Got Served Again, will reportedly center around a group of dancing teenage robots trying to prove their worth while dealing with the challenges they encounter growing up on the tough assembly lines of Japan.
Oh, so you mean they are trying to automate menial tasks to make more profit? And you're concerned because this has never been done before? Here's an idea: go to each Walmart location and smash these RFID readers you speak of. Ned Ludd would be proud.
Because a lot of energy is wasted in the combustion of ethanol also. Ethanol->hydrogen->electricity ends up being more efficient than ethanol->combustion engine.
Using flash for video is stupid and wrong.

Except you'd have to say 373 kelvin since it's a unit, not a scale.

The fact that his drawings weren't commented is what tipped us off to his genius in the first place. Everyone knows smart people don't comment.

The similarity of CAIDA to al-Qaida along with the mention of "ground zero" in the summary makes me think we have more to worry about than worms...

Do posts made by AC trolls count?
So... you mean it's a Real Doll (NSFW)? Why would you waste one of those up in space when it could be put to good use down on earth...

Instead of shutting Origin down, can't they just rename it Destination or something?

I call bullshit. Everyone knows no one lives in South Dakota.
