I'm continually stunned with the ignorance of history and economics that people are capable of suffering. Tax and spend plans are not going to solve any problems. You cannot get out of a hole by digging deeper. Politicians and their flunkies are always looking for a magic pill that will improve their nation's standing on some issue or another, and history has shown that every time they do, they just retard the progress and rate of growth in their own countries. Dirigisme doesn't work. You want to improve a nation's level of technological achievement, get out of the way. Of course, that doesn't get votes for responding to clueless demands to "do something." China will beat up New Zealand not because it has more spending in aggregate, but because each citizen is being gouged for less dollar value per person, and as China's economy flies past New Zealand in the next 10-20 years (assuming trends don't change), this will mean less and less wealth stolen from each citizen subjectively (assuming it remains ~1USD), so they will be more able to use their savings as capital in the marketplace.
This is a badly framed story. There are multiple LinuxWorld per year (I went to the one this spring or so in Boston). Instead, the focus should be on that it was the last LinuxWord of the year. Also, where was this one? It's not in the top parent.
"Nuclear bombs can kill people even if they're not used. In the U.S. alone, the Department of Energy estimates that more than 2,500 billion liters of groundwater are contaminated with uranium as a consequence of nuclear weapons production.
Ok, let's be scientific here. First, the proposed problem is not that unused nuclear bombs can kill people themselves, but that the production of nuclear weapons creates a radioactive byproduct that is alleged to be dangerous. Where is this byproduct located? Is it contaminating known in use reservoirs? Is it all far away from any humans that would use this groundwater? Or is it somewhere in between? Assuming people are ingesting the radioactive byproduct, how many rads are they irradiated with? Is it a neglible amount? Are they dying in their showers? This story hasn't bothered to be consistent with its own terminology, and I don't think it's too early to call it hysterical fearmongering sans hard data.
There was a gaming cafe up in Concord, NH. It died a slow, horrible death. So I'm going to say no, not unless gaming computers grow in price to thousands of thousands of dollars, or the food at the cafe is Michelin rated and free.
Xeons, eh? Not impressed. Power hungry, high heat, underperforming. If Apple was serious about a professional desktop PC, they'd use Opterons, not Xeons. If later Xeon-branded CPUs don't suck, ok, use those. Sticking with an Intel product just because it's an Intel product is a shortsighted move on Apple's part. With the stock debacle, they have to be more careful.
I don't care who posts movies on YouTube, but if this was some sort of political clip, it wasn't very good at all. Linux penguins? No mention of the large body of evidence disproving man-made global warming or the majority of climate scientists who call it bunk? Come on, America can do better than this!
"...officials believe having an existing or newly formed nonprofit in charge is the best way to ensure the project meets its civic goals and steers clear of special interests."
Earth to the do-gooders, a nonprofit is just as special interest as anyone else, potentially more so, as by labeling itself a non-profit, it automatically deflects scrutiny and skepticism.
You took out loans to "have money in the bank"?!? That's not your money, that's the creditors money, and you're playing with fire by so willingly taking on debt for short-term needs. You're screwing yourself over, and the first thing you should do is pay back those loans ASAP, and then live within your means!
I love MST3K, see my screen name, but MST3K is dead. They should stop trying to re-package it into something less than the original. I'd be ecstatic if the full cast and crew got back together for more MST3K, but this feels desperate.
No, I don't believe the uber-parent's argument is the case. The PC gaming market is not a zero-sum game. The market can be (and has been/is being) enlarged via new and innovative products, and I have seen no proof that if a gamer plays WoW, then they buy less games in total. I'd like hard facts, not causal and economic fallcies.
What's the point? If you pay 4 cents more per KWH, you have to produce 4 more cents for each KWH used, which translates into less efficiency and more pollution all around.
Wait, you have one entity bashed as being a monopoly, eBay, being bashed for refusing to cooperate with another entity frequently bashed as a monopoly, Google? Ever get the feeling the label "mopololy" is just a dirty word for smearing companies you don't like?
I'd rather have people jailed for taking bribes from the federal government. Of course people living off of taxpayer money are going to be more prone to fraud than in the private sector, they've already shown themselves to be unethical in the first place.
Kelo was not "repealed" (not that you can repeal a court decision, only overrule it). The executive order only stated that land can be taken "in the public interest," which is exactly how some private entities took the land, such as in the Kelo incident, as they were able to argue that it was "in the public interest." RTF case history and understand the executive order.
Almost makes you wonder if it's ethical to slash the tires of a Geek Squad "Bug" (complete form over function there, and not at all reliable or priced competitively), as they're a bunch of rip-off con artists and software thieves. I don't know anyone in tech that doesn't see them as worthless scum.
Someone isn't very good at math...it's extremely improbable that your one vote is going to matter one way or the other.

Somewhat interesting, but very basic and commonsense. Good for the newbie, not much use for others.

Uber-parent, downmod, flamebait.

Um, ok, so what? Is there a lack of robotic performers at the circus?

No one cares, and Craigslist swiftly removed the "final number station" post.
I've used up to SuSE 9.3 on them, quite disasterous.
Would have been nice if they had one that when I bought my T42. Oh well, better late than never.

Apparently, Apple still pisses on developers.

It's managed hundreds of thousands of years already despite all its faults, I don't see why the next hundred will be anything special in that regard.

Have you ever seen Wikipedia?
