What is the point of a catch all address for a domain? Surely, the only mail you receive in the catch all mailbox will be spam or viral? If you do not set up a catch all, at least your mail server will never take delivery.

  4. Perfect for me but... on Firefox/Thunderbird Plugins: Is Less More? · · Score: 2, Interesting

I use Firefox exclusively (except when Outlook occasionally insists on openeing IE). It is so good I want to install it on every friends PC I have to rid of spyware and viruses, but then think of having to support them when they visit a Flash (or whatever) site. If it wasn't for this I doubt most of them would even notice the difference, but still reap the benefits. I think the common plugins should be included with the installation, with a custom installation mode for those who know what they are doing.

We need a new, or better, or replacement for, the current protocols.
The whole internet experience is being ruined by the barrage of SPAM, adware, spyware, popups. Why the heck should we have to deal with this?
A brand new (Windows) computer is polluted all to hell within an hour of connecting to the net. This is outrageous!
I can clean up this crap in no time, but what about the average user - no chance!
    Frankly, I'm sick of it.
I don't know what the answer is, but I do know there are people out there who do.

A user here just complained they couldn't open a Excel spreadsheet. I couldn't open it either - no error message - just a new blank workbook. I suspected file corruption, but could see the data with a Hex editor. So I tried to open it with OpenOffice 1.0.1. Voila! Resaved from OO in Excel format and the document is now usable again.

Of course they do (want to control the desktop). This will be a setback for Linux if it catches on. Yes, Linux will probably be ported by enthustiastic hackers, but when will the port be ready for mass consumption? Contrary to posts here, I see no mention in the article that Linux will be 'locked out', but I am sure the hardware spec. will present serious difficulties for the porters. Also, the article says the plan will be outlined to 2,000 computer-hardware developers. Some here (who probably didn't even read the article) would have us believe this is being done by a Microsoft-HP alliance. If enough hardware companies participate, who is going to produce cheap x86 hardware, and what will be the impact on Linux's ability to penetrate the desktop market? I am almost to the point where I am comfortable with Linux as a desktop alternative, and ready to evangelize it, and now this? Perhaps I'd better think again?
