The dual 1.8 and dual 2.0 GHz machines come with an "NVIDIA GeForce FX 5200 Ultra" graphics card. Isn't that card pretty low-end (or midrange at best)? Is it just me, or should a 2,000+ dollar machine come with a decent graphics card?
Of course, the whole point of a tower is that you can replace the card, but when you're already paying 2,500 USD, should you have to?
I've never dealt with Paypal, but some of the stories over at PaypalWarning.com are pretty scary. Apparently Paypal has a habit of freezing accounts with almost no reason given, then sitting on the accounts which have hundreds of dollars tied up in them. Some of the stories also explain that it is nearly impossible to clear up the problem promptly, and that the best way to get your account unfrozen is to say you're going to complain to the Better Business Bureau or your local district attorney. Of course most of the stories I read were from two or three years ago. Maybe they've changed.
Was it the Klingons who referred to humans as "ugly bags of mostly water"? I was under the impression it was those weird crystal things from the episode Home Soil.
One cool feature mentioned in 4.5 is "iMix", which publishes your playlists to the iTMS for all to see. So out of curiosity, I tried to publish my "top 25 most played" playlist. Out of the 25 songs on the list, only seven were available at iTMS.
Sure, one could argue that I have eclectic taste in music, but on the other hand, they are missing some pretty big names: Radiohead, Frank Zappa, John Coltrane, Charlie Parker, Chick Corea...
On an unrelated note, I wonder if iTMS is going to start offering lossless files. That would be cool.
If you sincerely believe that looks*intelligence=constant is true, you've either not had many girlfriends, or just been unlucky. Last year I dated a total babe who was also the most intelligent girl I've ever met (she was in the Honors program at UMD and got almost as high on the SATs as I did).
Also if that were true, retards would be on the cover of Playboy every month and Sports Illustrated would have a "Swimsuits of the Special Olympics" edition.

You're completely right:
I use Unsanity Software's Shapeshifter theme changer.
Can you guess what my two favourite themes are? "Aqua Extreme" and "Smooth Stripes." They're basically just Aqua with slight tweaks, such as removing the pinstripes, adding sunken buttons instead of raised buttons, and getting rid of the streaks in brushed metal, etc.
I've found that every single theme I've tried that strays too far from Aqua ends up being a total disaster.
I agree, Rendezvous is pretty cool technology--and it's the basis of Xgrid. However, I think they can improve scaling a bit.
I'm on a college campus that must have, oh, over 1000 Macs on it (entering students are required to purchase Macs now), and on 10.2 rendezvous used to take up 20% or more of my CPU usage (1 GHz G4). I ended up using this tip to turn it off during the worst times of day.
However, I will admit rendezvous is *much* less draining on Panther, and will hopefully keep getting more efficient.
Well, if you take slashdot as a cross section of the internet, it's actually much higher. I usually browse at score: 4 & 5, which means nearly all the posts I read are worth reading. The ratio of posts in an average story that reach 4 or 5 is usually at least 10%, sometimes over 20%.
Of course, this is assuming Slashdot is a descent cross section of the internet, which I'm not sure is true, although it does have, what, nearly 800,000 users now?
Counterfeiting and anti-counterfeiting with Adobe Photoshop and other products like inkjet printers have been the subject of recent discussion on Slashdot."
MIPI general manager Michael Speck told ZDNet Australia the order was specifically targeted at the operators of the Kazaa network. "This is not about individuals, this is about the big fish," said Speck. "This is a signal that Internet music piracy is finished in Australia."
Yes, stopping Kazaa will end music piracy in Australia. Because nobody has ever heard of

Your sig drove me insane :(

I did not understand 20% of that headline at all.

Good luck digging up that corpse!
Star Trek creator Gene Roddenberry is the first person to have their ashes put aboard a rocket and "buried" in space.

This is obviously an April Fools bit. I mean, it says right here that "all screens were taken on Mac OS X running Zoom."
A ground-breaking new game ported to OS X? Yeah, like anyone's going to believe THAT! Better luck next year, simoniker!
(PS: I own a Mac so I'm allowed to make these jokes)

Am I the only person who finds that classification amusing?
Son, folks who use Windows aren't really bad people... they're just confused.
I'm just curious: What's wrong with Fink?
Hundreds of ports, doesn't interfere with the rest of your system (at least not with mine), and a nice front end.
Was the end guy hard?

It's not a bad url. perhaps you didn't remove the space? Try this.
Heh, yes you can. And I did. It matches the colour of my TiBook, too.
Wow, for some reason I can't help but be reminded of FATMOUSE
Yeah, I know, it's... weird...
Counterfeiting and anti-counterfeiting with Adobe Photoshop and other products like inkjet printers have been the subject of recent discussion on Slashdot."
Heh, not that the Photoshop effort was effective--all you need to do is search the applications section of suprnova.org to find "banknote patch Photoshop CS."
"The late Walt Disney built his empire with a mouse. The same can be said about Steve Jobs"
The difference being Mickey traditionally had two buttons on him...

None of which look like they're going away.
Here's a clearer (and much cuter) picture of a Fat-tailed Dunnart (Sminthopsis crassicaudata crassicaudata).
Awwwwwww....
Not only is NPR rather balanced (I personally used to listen to it every day in the car when I lived outside of the city), but people who listen to NPR as their main source of information have been shown to have less misconceptions about the war in Iraq than people who listen to or watch other news sources.
Interestingly enough, the study found that people who watched Fox News had the most misconceptions.
