You're right. I couldn't really get into Broken Angels. But Woken Furies was expertly written with Kovacs perfectly portrayed as the archetypal anti hero. Great stuff.
In the immortal words on Jimmy Cricket. And there's more...
Altered Carbon (rumoured to have been purchased by Joel Schumacher)
Nights Dawn Trilogy (although I can't see any way you'd be able to suspend the disbelief of the audience in theatres in the same way the Hamilton was able to do on paper)
Otherland (This could quite easily transfer onto celluloid and could be a success)
I think you've hit the nail on the head. Unfortunately, with the omnipresent media that we have nowadays, they need to find little tidbits, regardless of their accuracy or proof, that can fill up a quiet hour on their 24hour news shows.
On an aside, I read somewhere (can't find it now though) that the news shows are starting to have to come up with a new phrase for breaking news because it was constanly on the screen regardless of how long the news had been broken.
Why are the nicest British Universities (Cambridge, Durham, St Andrews) in such bloody cold places?
Nice, you've basically spanned near enough the entire UK with that statement. Whilst Edinburgh is in the far north of the UK (Scotland) and Durham in n the far north of England, Cambridge can only be described as being in the south (unless of course you're a cockney zealot who claims everything north of the river is north). And, the best thing is that the statement is still correct - everywhere in the UK is cold.
Seems that Occam has made it into public consciousness more than Ockham. Wikipedia sites Occam first with an AKA for Ockham. In fact, a searc in wikipedia for Ockham's Razor returns the Occam's Razor page.
I haven't read The Singularity is Near, but I will now it's been pointed out. I am currently reading the SciFi books of Charles Stross who seems obsessed with the ideas of the singularity. Currently reading Accelerando which gives a very good account of post humanism and the journey to it.
Off topic but... The tube strike over the new year was to get a 35 hour weekand 52 (yes, 52!!) days holiday a year. The tube union is rapidly running out of sympathy from the general public.
They also went on strike this Monday just gone because the tube managers decided to try to keep some staions open and the union decided that this was against health and safety. More disruption and they've just upped their ticket prices and abolished a zone 1 travelcard. The tube union is scum.
I can see the benefit of these creations and I applaud the efforts of the engineers and scientists involved, but I can't help thinking that enhancements to the human model would be a better route to go for artificial intelligence. Enhancements to human intelligence would give us all a much greater degree of control over our environments than the use of autonomous discrete AI robots.
I don't know whether you're being facetious or not, but this is something that I'm struggling with as well. How will they keep the ship attached to the thing producing the magnetic field strong enough to rip through space time into another dimension? Rivets don't seem to be, to my mind, strong enough.
Very interesting. I remember this discussion, but I think it was about a space vehicle powered by an anti gravity device. Wait a minute <>search<>... here we go. Here's the slashdot post.
Probably just feeding the troll but here goes anyway...
It's less words. It's entered the public consciousness as Podcast. Apparently, "birthplace", "bump", "torture", "olympian", and "mountaineer" weren't discrete words till Shakespeare coined them and they entered the public consciousness.
Remember, language is a forever mutating beast and will continue to do so, whether you like it or not.

Doh! I'll prove my own maths wrong
so, 17*212=3604GB in total for the collection. 54GB : 3604/54 = 67 discs * 23.45 = $1571.15 46GB : 3604/46 = 79 discs * 23.45 = $1852.55
So initially more expensive, but eventually less.
OK, let's do some maths...
a DVD-18 double sided, double layer on both sides = 17.1 GB
Ultimate collection comes on 212 discs = 1700/212 = $8 per disc
Bluray discs (dual layer) are stated to be at least 46GB and at most 54GB
so, 17*212=3604GB in total for the collection.
54GB : 6404/54 = 119 discs * 23.45 = $2790.55
46GB : 6404/46 = 140 discs * 23.45 = $3283
So, in theory, it'll be way more expensive on BluRay. ** prepares to have maths shown to be wrong **
I would like to purchase your rock
All the words in parent post are english, I can see that, but...
Accelerando
What?

Also, if you do a Google Fight with the two Occam wins.
This doesn't make you wrong, but it is understandable why the GPP used Occam rather than Ockham.

...so what is it?
You too can have your own Talky Toaster (patent applied for) for only $£19.99!

Kevin Warwick seems to have the right idea AFAIC.

There are almost 6 Billion people in the world, surely there're enough people to research both?
