Is there actually any evidence (e.g. Snowden) of the US conducting SIGINT against the UK in violation of the five-eyes agreement? I thought GCHQ did it for the NSA in Britain.
Surely its just common sense for smartphones etc to be excluded from cabinet meetings.
The headline does sound like an Onion article. But its getting harder and harder to distinguish reality from The Onion. Come November 9, I may have to seriously consider the possibility that I am living inside a Matrix-y simulation inside an Onion article of an advanced civilisation.
I can't see how they can possibly have established state sponsors attacks unless they have managed to catch and interrogate one of the hackers,
When Russian researchers discovered the Stuxnet worm, it soon became apparent that, call it terrorism or an act of war, it was state sponsored. But I don't see any evidence that the attack on the DNC was remotely as sophisticated.
even with cubic-reflector surfaces they still obey the inverse-quad law -
Ahh... no! The whole point of corner reflectors (aka cubic, retro) is to avoid that problem. What you describe is an ordinary white surface. Reconsider?
Retro-reflective paint makes things visible even with a tiny bike-light, far beyond your stopping distance. On second thoughts, there is a big problem painting the whole path instead of just the edges - it will be too bright close up. But if pedestrians have a separate parallel path, as in the above Polish case, there is no need to light the whole path. Other bikes have reflectors too.
I'm not in favour of anything that encourages people to ride at night without lights, so be hard to see. If a bike has lights, even dim ones, standard cateye-reflective paint is better, cheaper, and works after overcast winter days.
Did Linus actually spell "fuck" with an asterisk? When did Linus become the sort of guy to edit his speech so as not to offend overly-sensitive idiots? Maybe he has been living in California too long.
There is no evidence whatsoever that NK has done that. That is just Western propaganda.
It is? I must have missed it. I thought it was just something from a bad movie plot. When is the last time any sovereign state leader has routinely executed people for failure? Or any propaganda has said so?
Their first rockets either blew up on the launch pad or shortly after liftoff. The world laughed. Yet they were ready to try again just a month or two later. That one blew up too, but it went further. Now, a few years later, they can put satellites in orbit,
That all sounds familiar. I think Monty Python foreshadowed a conversation between Kim Jong-il and his son:
Are they talking about middle-eastern applicants? Perhaps there are security concerns? Indians? Around here its not unusual to get a lot of applications from blatantly unqualified Indian immigrants, or fake qualifications that become apparent at the interview stage. So applicant numbers don't mean much there.
I wish TFA would just say what it means. It might be obvious to the locals, but not to everyone else.
Does it matter if the drone operator was in the wrong? That does not give the hillbilly permission to shoot it. How about the next time his pickup truck exceeds the speed limit or parks illegally, we set it on fire. Is that OK?
Neanderthals are/were human, just not homo sapiens. Fire, tools, bigger brains than us, probably language. They may even have been more intelligent than some modern stone-age indigenous peoples. And close enough to us that a modern human could be a surrogate mother.
both a traitor and a hero. He can be both, at the same time.
Of course, that's part of my point. The Founding Fathers are more obviously both - heroes to millions, but clearly traitors and they never denied this but only justified it. They had their reasons, but the damage done to achieve their goals was staggering. The harm done by Snowden is minuscule in comparison, and he is suffering for it, rather than gaining wealth and power, so perhaps his justifications are worth listening to?
Its economics. A consumer drone costs $1000, compared to RPG grenades which were selling for $100, but now $500 according to the CSM:

As the war drags on, and munitions prices rise, alternatives become more attractive.
how could you even shoot it down? And in a city, would you even be able to try shooting it down?
Shotgun. And seriously? Afraid of disturbing the peace in Aleppo?
The ecuadorian embassy will be stormed or destroyed.
The embassy is in London. Idiot.
So send a few Navy Seals across from Detroit. Easy.

I guess the kid ticked the box for "unlimited income".
Am I the only one who thought that the $100,000 bill was...
So what word do you folks use for such a bill? A check? Invoice?

why the US, ... hasn't killed him 20 times by now,
Ask Fidel Castro.
Russia is acting deliberately and forcefully to influence the American electorate.
Why would Putin care about the electorate? If anything, this is to influence the next president. A warning not to screw with him.
So, I think a lesson must be taught to Russia:
That interfering with the voting processes of a democracy is close to a declaration of war.
I think the lesson is already being taught: to the US administration for interference in the internal processes of the Ukraine.

I thought they died out somewhere in the early 1970s.
I thought the same about vi.
Its also like the cats vs dogs debate. We all know one is clearly better, but somehow people keep buying the other one.
I'll wager that top-loader buyers use vi, and front-loaders are emacs people.
We're all going to die.
Spoiler alert, please!
Yes, it sounds like Musk is more a fan of Jules Verne than Copernicus or Kepler. 80 days will take a lot of energy.

woosh?
Obvious grammatical error in sentence about grammar is obvious. Let not take it too seriously. I was responding to the grammar nazi, not being one.
It depends which Asians. TFA is incredibly vague.

speak good English
"speak English well"
Both are grammatically correct. Its the second AC who doesn't speak English good.

It looks like resurecting them may be a real possibility: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/...
Do these exist?
No. I'm not even sure it is possible. It was a hypothetical question. Imagine the legal and ethical minefield.
