i actually used that as an argument in one of my political science classes when i wrote an essay against government enforcement of morality... it didn't go over well as a joke...
i have many friends that use MD for the "convenience" factor... i never saw it but, i can appreciate it...
MiniDisks stay clean a lot better than CDs, and with the RW capabilities there, you can continue to add/remove songs and the like... MDs are smaller than CDs, and come in cool colors.
i dunno, improving the MD won't help anyone who has already adopted the format and with HDD MP3 players becoming so huge (iPod and the like), i doubt there will be any new adopters for the format... but if you weigh it all out, someone who travels alot (and has the input on their car reciever) MD v.s. CD... MD would win (if i could afford it)
This gets one thinking...

The "Techie" Vote?
·
· Score: 5, Interesting
This makes me think that maybe the techies/geeks SHOULD band together (with groups like the EFF) to shape tech legislation and stop this government from taking away our personal freedoms, like routers, NAT, firewalls, and encryption.
yea, but the last cd I bought NOFX's War on Errorism, is 13.99 at Amazon, add in shipping and its close to the same price as at the music store. I don't download music, I stream it legally. I'm not supporting copyright infringement, but I'm not suporting the *AA either. I bought the CD at a concert that cost $10 to get into, and $5 for the CD. Im supporting bands directly by not using ticketmaster, and I'm supporting them even further by putting the money into the lead singers' hands.
The only place to buy CDs in Logantucky is a Sam Goody. With no competition for 35 miles, there is no other option. (Except WalMart, but you couldn't pay me to listen to censored music.) $18.99 for a new CD is normal. Hell, they've turned reservations and special orders into a paymetn system.
I stopped buying CDs once this whole situation with copyrights and piracy came about. I barely download music, and strictly listen to others' CDs or stream obscure music from free sites. The last CDs I have purchased were independent, and CHEAP. I have not purchased a CD from a major music label in years, and do not plan to until prices for 10 songs goes below 20USD.
I know!!! Let's use the giant slingshot to shoot big objects at countries George Bush doesn't like! Or, better yet, specific people King George II doesn't like. "We'll get that Osama Bin Laden some day."
I don't see what the ISC is so worried about. If the best solution is a proprietary software, then the gov't will choose proprietary. However, this bill simply urges the gov't to explore all the options, eventually saving money. [Not to mention providing jobs for us geeks who know so much about OSS, and Unix:-) ]
Once again, our justice system has failed the consumers. "Sure, Microsoft is acting in restriction of trade. Let's warn them that they should probably let ppl know how to code for their OS."
Microsoft funds their campaigns, so they stand there with their thumbs up their asses acting as if they have done all they can. They are the government, dammit!!!!
I'm moving to Canada, at least if my tech job goes under up there I can still get healthcare.
Why sue Cohen? I mean, yes it was wrong of him to try and defraud VeriSign, but isn't it really VeriSign's fault for not VeriFying the transfer? Let VeriSign sue Cohen for attempt to defraud AFTER they discover that the transfer was not sanctioned. If VeriSign would have provided a little more customer service, Kremen wouldn't be out any money, and Cohen would not be hunted. Just a thought.
With the recent advent of everyone turning anything in print into a movie (LotR, Spiderman, The Hulk, Daredevil, etc...) in order to appeal to a more illiterate society, and to advertise more products. I have decided to turn FreeBSD Unleashed (2nd Edition) into a feature film. It will feature bullet-time animation, and Beastie travelling through 3-dimensional telnet and ssh sessions to successfully configure his beowulf community.
I will be sure not to use any phrases such as Unix, Linux, SCO, or FSF so that I am not sued.
Then, I will release a DVD edition, then an extended edition with an interview with some programmers on how to configure you first box.
All trademarks are owned by their respective copyright holders, please don't sue me. FreeBSD Unleashed: The Movie patent pending.
So glad we're getting these articles these days. I find myself begging for interesting humorous articles. Helps keep the tunnel vision away.
i actually used that as an argument in one of my political science classes when i wrote an essay against government enforcement of morality... it didn't go over well as a joke...
had a problem with my brother's computer with these autodialers... phone company handled it in short order, not really a big problem with our telco...

Just a thought I've had for a while now.
Does MP3.com offer a membership? Maybe with this membership, high bandwidth streams are available.
Yoshi DeHerrera of TechTV has an article about how to use HFE from 3M to build a submerged cooling system for a computer. Find it here.
In other news...
Nasa is now being sued for violating an ancient patent issued to a rogue alien group for space travel.

Just my $0.02 .

I think I'll sue Slashdot for providing software to censor user's posts. This threshold is censorship!!!! I want everyone to see my lame postings.
I have a patent on suing people for copyright infringement
The movie companies want to remove fast-forward from all viewing devices? I read the EFF's press release, but I'm not quite sure I understand.
I'm keeping all my legacy VHS and DVD players if they win this one. Fuck manufacturers and their new features. No fast-forward, me no purchase
Gee, I submitted this story yesterday. Oh well...
So, Microsoft is chastizing those that exploit their poorly made e-mail systems? Hmmm...

but VeriSign could have prevented sex.com from being affected by Cohen, had they been more efficient. That was the reason for my comment
More like...
[1] Do what you like, flout all laws, profit. Laws are for others.
[2] If they sue you, get a friendly government.
[3] If you are likely to lose, settle, the settlement being "Agree to obey laws in future".
[4] Profit! (Repeat if desired.)

I have found a page on computer-related Repetitive Strain Injuries, and how you can prevent them. Then again, you could always just go here and prevent injury while looking stylish!
as in independent, maybe 'B' grade films
obscurity sometimes yeilds better results than high budget films
yes, richard's big and tall in Indianapolis.
dick.
Did you not read the above, six distribution facilities for Walmart.
Plus, most of the U.S. will have 2 day service.
Sorry, just read the article.
