Fox Interactive Media's hiring managers and recruiters are actively seeking candidates for more than 250 open positions throughout its network, including data architects, director of engineering, product managers and graphic designers.
So, they could be developers or IT staff. The rep I talked to was interested in my AJAX background. *shrug*
Fox is supposedly hiring 300 new software engineers to work on reengineering the site. As long as they can keep thier userbase and allow them thier geocities like pages, friendster-like friends lists, and allow indie bands to upload thier music for electrionic distribution then they probably won't be going anywhere.
However, since http://facebook.com/ is now open to everyone; everyone i know is now using that for thier social networking needs.
I just created a list of every girl (okay, okay, both!) that I've ever hooked up with in my life and the dates in which it happened. It is still a work in progress as I rememeber details. If there are jpegs, I link them from the doc.
Then I appended every girl that I am currently talking to, thier interests and how I know them. With any relevant contact info. If I hook up with them, they will move into the hook-up list. Else, they will move into "I am just friends" list.
I need it to remember the good times, the screw-ups, and retain a log of my life that is easily searchable.
(I rue the day that I get married and my future wife might find it though.)
my problem isn't the sound quality, its that I *try* to use the 'Skip Forward' and 'Skip Back' commands that I use for CD track control to skip to the next track in the ipod playlist. What it does instead is Fast Forward or Rewind the tape interface in the deck! I have to eject the tape interface and reload it when I forget that I need to pick up the ipod and hit '>>|' on it to get to the next track in the playlist.
I would love it if I could make it so that my car controls could command the ipod.
In W. Gibson's latest novel "Pattern Recognition", there are a series of videos/short films posted anonymously on the internet. Noone knows who is posting them and why; Marketing companies all hunger for a chance to get some of the hype surrounding the posted short videos. I won't ruin the ending for you, but it is a story of marketing types and anonymous artistic video postings.
This is very applicable to what is happening on YouTube now; self-made work are being fostered by these types of user generated content sites. The problem is the viewer has non idea if those self made works are sponsored by companies, or if they are just 'solo artist in a room somewhere' type of works.
It must be the lists that I am on. I get spam/phishing emails like this all the time, and yahoo does nothing about them.
The XXXXX's in the to: field are commented out prefix, sent to common words @yahoo.com. The view status link goes to a different Yahoo user's geocities account (I have never visited, I am not sure what they contain: probably bad stuff). I'm not going to link it here, but they are generally some name and then a string of numbers (like the spam originator's account name). Note that these emails are originating from a @yahoo.com email address.

Yahoo! mail's filter is getting worse. I get at least 6-8 spam emails a week that make it past the filter and into my inbox. The recent influx has been from spam people linking to geocities websites (is it in Yahoo!'s interest to not block these?). That is my #1 complaint about Yahoo! Mail: Fix your damn filter. Its been broken for awhile, and I even consistently report the spam, yet it seems to do nothing.
OTOH, my Gmail account gets spam, but I have never yet seen any mislabeled messages. The label system is cleaner, cleaner, much more organized and seemingly faster than my Yahoo account. I think it all comes down to how you think about email; I've drank the gmail koolaid and can no longer use Outlook/Y!M since I just want to Label a message and Archive it, then search for things later.
I guess if you want an online Outlook app, YM is the way to go. I've since adapted to the new Google messaging system and it makes me more efficient. (One of the very nice features of the messaging system is the online storage of all of my instant messaging activities: handy since when I used YM! it stored IM messages on the local machine and I use lots of different machines at work/home).
the guy whos wiki is exploitable even posts about slashdot stories on his (interesting!) blog at http://hcs.harvard.edu/freeculture/blog/... so should know wtf he is doing.
There are actual student loan companies that make thier living getting Student Loan information and contact information from the Dept. of Education and cold-call and/or send snailmail to students claiming that they need to do something with thier student loans. Most of the time it is just to consolidate them to save money or to start paying them to avoid the credit ding. They have all of the students information and just need verification to take action on the funds.
People respond to this because they are lazy with thier finances, they often don't understand thier student loans, and these people claim to be giving them an awesome deal.
I've played around with Eclipse but find it's C/C++ support still lacking.
Care to enlighten us on what was lacking with Eclipse and CDT?
My only real complaint is the large times it takes to recompile large projects. Slow indexing/parsing times for large amounts (1000+) of files are a given however for any type of tool that is going to cross reference new projects. However, if I have control of the project extraction of projects into logical subcomponents rather than editing huge single projects with Eclipse/CDT will give you a very nice time speed up.
A personal fave is that the debugger integration in eclipse is second to none.
The article in the New Yorker is more about the dispicable effort that Yau made to get his name on the Hamilton-Perelman proof than actually discussing Perelman's effort to remain fame-free. "The chinese made a 30% contribution and Perelman only a 25% one."
If the way that he is rejecting the Field's Medal is what he concluded it would take to expose the efforts of Yau and Co. to get recognition for work that they did not do, then he is going about it in a good way. The article itself is more an expose into the workings of credit in the world of mathematics than the rejection itself.
also, nowhere does anyone seem to say what that lady's PhD was in. If it is in Biomedical Engineering, that doesn't make her an expert on (video) game theory. Also, why does it matter if the PhD is from Harvard? The location again means nothing... other than they paid through thier ass for ivy league connections. Its like the fact that she has a PhD (from Harvard!) and testified is more important than logic here and what she is actually saying.
Actually 100M is undefined, as 'meters' are always abbreviated lowercase. Only those units that are named after scientists are capatalized in thier abbreviation (be it english or latin letters). Think about it.
Instead of using neutrons as you proposed, they are using metals. The free electrons in the metal latice get increasing closer (in probability) to the nuclei of the waste product. In turn, the free electrons cause the 'increase in decay type reactions', without having to use a 'good neautron emitter'.
I bet he wrote a program for his Senior Thesis (his 4th (or 5th) year of undergrad) and since it wasn't really anything new, applying a known algorithm to a known problem, him and his advisor just called it "computational physics". back in my day, we called this "Applied Physics".
Applied Physics is rooted in the fundamental truths and basic concepts of the physical sciences but is concerned with the utilization of scientific principles in practical devices and systems, and in the application of physics in other areas of science. "Applied" is distinguished from "pure" by a subtle combination of factors such as the motivation and attitude of researchers and the nature of the relationship to the technology or science that may be affected by the work.
I actually got to use it at that year's e3, and it was pretty nice. I don't know if I was just used to using crappy Dell keyboards and non-optical mice, but it did feel like a solid keyboard+mouse combo. It just plugged into the console with the big (usb?) plug in the front with a single cable (I remember it was *not* wireless). The aestetics were nice, the angles and whatnot were perfect the way that it sat on your lap. I am right handed however, I wonder how it would work for lefties.
However, I wouldn't pay more than $50 for the combo, and I guarantee it will retail at like $100 and will not sell well. Hopefully I can pick one up off ebay a year or two from thier initial sale for like $20.
its because the monitor that you are using is not listed in thier list of supported monitors... so it used the default monitor settings. same thing happened to me, and when I specified which monitor it actually was, i had 0 problem selecting the resolution and refresh rate from a pull down menu in one of the settings dialogues.
the problem, like everyone states, is that vendors do not get thier monitor's specs listed in the distributions supported hardware list to add to thier x86config so that you can just pick from a list, rather than edit the config file directly. its a 'driver' issue.
this just smacks of 'not controlled here' syndrome. people want to link other people's stuff, and they do, but the content (and bandwidth!) owners don't guarantee that what they link when they create thier page is what is going to remain there.
basically, anchor refer tags do not always point to what they are supposed to. myspace is bringing back to the forefront lots of little details/problems from the late nineties from 'user' made websites, mostly geocities. it is reminiscent of when someone would like to embed an image fron your domain onto thier page and you would change it to a goatse picture.. and thier page would be showing what you controlled (and then they would bitch, but thats besides the point).
when you embed (and link: remember that 'i am viewing gay porn IE killer javascript awhile back?!) content from other providers, you should trust them not to change it (and let them know you are doing it!).

The parents go to the Apple store and say "So that's an ipod! Then give me two!".

and they even thumbnail the pictures that people added. >:)
first time I've logged into facebook in a while, its a breath of fresh air from myspace (which I logged into last month).
So yeah, I would say that he is wealthy.

same with the new Dune book... Hunters of Dune.
We'll see if the authors can hold true to the Frank Herbert's legacy.
uhh levels haven't been around forever. Ultima Online didn't have them. Neither did Asheron's Call. 2 of 3 of the "Original 3" MMORGP's.

I have discovered a truely marvelous demonstration of the Poincaré conjecture that this blog is too narrow to contain.
no shit.
