Doctors have to do an unbelievable amount of tedious paperwork. Not uncommon to visit a doctor and have him just announce your $name and stare at some paper while he barely makes eye contact with you.
Holy shit, 120 dollars for a bottle of pills? No, just no. You're throwing your money away on this stuff where you can get the equivelent effect much cheaper. Drinking good amounts of water and getting atleast 30 minutes of cardio will boost your metabolism and energy levels. I'd suggest basic suppliments like a multivitamin, Omega 3-6-9 oils, and if you really want, some Green Tea Extract. You can order a variety of these things over at Bulknutrition.com for way less. I'll attest to the fact that the Green Tea Extract does help raise your energy and body temperature. I take about 800mg of GTE in pill form and drink Green Tea whenever possible because I like the taste.
I've adopted the following for my personal use and some small businesses when they've asked me to setup something for them. All of 'em run WindowsXP in some way and just want to backup their spread sheets, word documents, Quicken Data, and their larger files being Outlook.pst's.
1.) Buy 2 flash drives in the appropiate capacity 2.) Buy and setup SyncBackSE for twenty dollars.
I have it setup on my home pc and my father's small business. Backs up daily in the early morning to the thumb drive there and sends a compressed/encrypted WinZip compatible file too an FTP server of their choice. I think the most economical thing (note, not neccesarily the safest or smartest) would be to just get those cheapo hosting plans, throw up a small text blog no one will read, and backup to there using SyncBack's ftp backup feature.
I've found it to be worth the twenty dollars since it does everything I need too and is pretty easy to setup. I didn't feel like messing with cygwin and rsync.
Microsoft AntiSpyware Beta 1 has been out for several months and it's a fantastic piece of software. Provides Real Time protection, asks the user to allow or deny common system changes programs make, and defaults to automatically updating and scanning.
Users of IE can use Spybot's Immunizations and bad download blocker BHO. Spywareblaster is pretty good for another level of protection and to stop tracking cookies (works with Firefox too).
Everytime I've had to clean a computer, I always install AVG Free Antivirus, Microsoft Antispyware, Spybot and Spywareblaster, update, and immunize. Now, Firefox would be ideal, but sometimes it's not a workable option since many people rely on ActiveX applications at work or are just stubborn. I really haven't had any of these people come back and call me complaining they were reinfected after telling them to make sure things are updated.
I don't run Linux since I like to play games and my wireless card does not support.
I have a Linksys WRT54G acting as a NAT for my network with WPA Encryption and a longish passphrase, MAC white list, interface over https, policy restrictions blocking some spyware/malware hosts, filtering unused IP ranges, and filtering certain ports.
On the PC, I have Norton Antivirus Corporate Edition, Spyware S&D and Spywareblaster Immunizations, Adaware SE 1.05, and AxCrypt. I use Firefox and Thunderbird as my primary browser, keep my software and windows up to date, and have scheduled scans for spyware and viruses once a week. AxCrypt uses 128bit-AES on my personal files (both sensitive and embarassingly bad writing). I do confess to having some read only shares on my network since I have a HTPC and like to stream movies and music since it has a tiny hard drive. My porn is not protected, but hidden using the file property "hide" and turning off show hidden folders/files.
Speaking of the HTPC, it has nothing sensitive on it and I have some read only and full access to one share on it. It's behind the NAT and runs Windows Firewall as well because it can. I have Filezilla Server on there with a SafeTP wrapper to encrypt transferring of files and login information.
I think your problem is the no-name 600watt powersupply of yours. Go for a good brand like Antec. Their 380w power supplies should be sufficent for most users.
think p2p is here to stay, and there are still features that need to be put in place univerally before it's mature, and all the various p2p flavors are comparable.
The various bits are there scattered across different p2p networks. IMNSHO, all p2p networks/clients ought to have:
-Swarming (as defined/used in BitTorrent) -Privacy/anonymity (perhaps as much as in Freenet) -Good searching (Kazaa, Napster, those types. With room for improvement all around) -Open-source clients with no ads/spyware -Decentralized/self-organizing networks (no central point of failure, or at least minimal) -Browser/web server hooks to autoswarm web content (there ought to be bittorrent:// links)
Pardon my BitTorrent bias. I moderate the bittorrent_help mailing list, so I have more exposure to that.
All these features should someday be pushed into numerous language libraries, so that they become ubiquitous.
Alright, so it's offtopic and I'm sure there's probally already a hundred posts about it below my threshold, but what about DS9? I'm not much one for prequels or even the TNG timeline. TNG was really "white bread" with it being extremely predictable episodes with flat (but sometimes lovable) characters resolving the given situation inside the episode to make for good syndication material. Oh, and throw in some Borg/combat oriented episodes towards for the season premiers and finales to try to hook people in and resolve it like any other syndicated episode afterwards.
Anyway, enough of my dorky rant, here's what they should be doing:
1.) Screw alternate time lines and particles and such. Don't even mention the possibility of it. Sure, it'd kinda annoy Star Trek dorks like me who have kept up with multiple series and like to compare them (god knows what Voyager did, haven't seen much of it myself) but if you just plug your ears and say lalala then it'll be okay. I promise!
2.) Go back to DS9 era and explore what happened there. All three major powers (fed, klingons, romulans) of the Alpha quadrant are recovering from a long and costly war from a powerful adversary that was basically the anti-federation from the Gama quadrant. I'd love to see how the Dominion would deal with the aftermath considering it comprised of a variety of genetically engineered races to fulfill specific jobs. Now that their founder "gods" have been defeated, will that shake the Dominion to the core? If so, what happens?
Hell, Sisko is still living in the Wormhole and with the Prophets, can we give him a resolution? I'm sure he'd come back and be part of the main story.
3.) Don't involve Berman/Braga in the creative aspect. They're okay producers just bring back the DS9 writing team and people like Ira Steven Behr.
4.) No fucking cameos. I'm sick of TNG cameos and the feeling that it needs to be done to somehow validate the series. Take a goddamn risk every once in a while. DS9 did it and it was succesful in a lot of regards. It didn't get the same ratings as TNG, but considering it was overlapping with Voyager and TNG towards the beggining its no suprise. I'd love to see a relaunch of this series after Enterprise is put to rest.

Yeah, this seems to be a common theme among the networks with all the elections/states. I bet its just a ploy to ply some more ratings out of tonight, apparently commercials are going as high as a superbowl night rate according to some sources. I think I'll just turn on comedy central and watch indecision 2000 and wait to wake up, turn on my radio to the Walton & Johnson Show (If you're in Louisana, you know what I'm talkin about Baby!) and check out who won. Assuming they don't screw anything up and it takes a week to get this deteremined.
Try having 2.6gigs of Baldur's Gate madness on your hard drive for the past few weeks/months. I can't wait for BG 2 personally, THAT will be a kickass RPG. The storyline and quests of BG were the best I've seen.
The problem I have with VQF is this, the encoder(s) I've seen are terribly slow. Granted, it does have better compression and will take more cycles to pack those bits. I've encoded a song at 80kbps with VQF, and was quite impressed with its quality regarding 128kbps. But, it took nearly 10-15 minutes on my K6-2 333mhz w/ 96megs of RAM... so you say my system is too slow? Maybe it is by your standards and many others, but its a perfectly fine machine and while I can always get more disk space at the local computer store/nearest online retailer, I can't purchase time.
With my CDRW and encoder combo I can rip&encode a full 74minute CD in about 20 minutes. I highly recommend people consider this encoder "Go-Go-no-Encoda", it features 3dnow!/MMX/SSE/SMP optimizations which can really give back alot of time. Check it out: http://homepage1.nifty.com/herumi/gogo_e.html
Imagine encoding an entire album such as Pink Floyd's "The Wall", a little over 80 minutes, with VQF? Blah, not *all* music lovers have P3-500mhz/K7 Thunderbirds:)
I'm just saying, the reason _I_ don't like VQF is because it takes way too much damn time to encode things and posesses limited support for encoders/decoders in the way that the two major ones that I've seen are not very mature and will often drain my system resources. I don't think MP3s are to be used for *everything*, but don't exaggerate its faults. It was meant to stream decent quality audio which could be likened to CD on a typical customer's equipment over a network.

First of all, his entire argument about how intellectual property may soon be destroyed. I cite the classic evidence of the period before modern-esque "intellectual property". To put it short, the world has lived without IP laws and such, and it can still. I concur with most of my fellow slashdot readers that this technology can be useful for bringing species to greater numbers that may be extinct. Aside from that, I'm more interested in the relationship between the mother and offspring. A domesticated cat raising a breed of wild cats? I think this should be extremely interesting to follow how the domesticated mother can keep up with her new offspring. This is all assuming if they do not take the offspring away from the mother. On one hand I feel that taking her away from the mother may be beneficial because sooner or later those wild instincts will set in and may do things the mother may not like. It is true the mother probally has these instincts, but I feel that they are mostly put in the back because of years and years of domestication.
But on the other maybe the mother and offspring should not be seperated. I think that it would be a worthy endeavor to observe how she copes with her unusual offspring.
