It's relly to bad that some won't have a single geneticly altered item without rasing havoc. We have been altering plants for centuries by cross breeding. This results in a new type of plant that the changed genes are not controlled. I find that far more disturbing than changing one gene that has a known effect on an organism.

I realise that there will be things that are genetically altered for the worse. They will either be an experiment or from the mind of someone who intends to do wrong. this is where the line should be drawn... for those who intend to do harm with genetics. Otherwise it is intended for the betterment of society.

All of the stories you've heard about the genetically altered badities - the Hulk, the tenage mutant ninja turtles, the monkey with 4 asses... are just that, stories. Until the haze of negativity is lifted from genetics we can only make small steps, like making fish glow.

I was going to say that something seemed terribly wrong... because when I read that I interpreted it as 128 nodes were pumping out 80% of it's peak at 14Tflops...

if that were the case then the last 972 nodes would almost be a complete waste if they only gave a 20% preformance increase.

It's really amazing how integrated the world is becoming. I think the biggest problems come when dealing with the rights individual countries.

If there emerges a hack where ppl have the ability to listen in on other calls over the network, we have to wonder how the situation is going to be handled and what country's laws should be followed. The only reason the P2P client KAZAA still has running servers is because of loopholes in the internet laws of the countries where the software was developed and the servers were placed. So what will happen with telecommunication crimes?

most of us know that pirating is wrong (even if you wouldn't like to admit it), but there are still ppl in indonesian countries that have the philosophy "Why pay $15 for a dvd when you can get a ripped vcd for pennies?"

  11. opcodes on 64-bit Toys for Athlon-64? · · Score: 1

amazingly enough, the athlon 64 does not seem to have a vastly large number increase in opcodes. I believe they added another set to that long list of opcode types... MMX, MMX2, SSE, etc but the only real preformance increase comes from allowing it to access memory a double word at a time. the problem with that is it only really increases the preformance of floats and arrays if properly optimized.

I also have a 486 "running" the interesting part is that it's AMD's version of the 486...

the cool part about that is that there were only a few hundred made, the part that's not so cool is the reason only a few were made... they are outrageously unstable.

about 15 out of 16 times on attemting to boot it'll give me a screen that closley resembles what an atari looked like when it couldn't read the cartridge correctly. and of the times that it does boot there's about a 50% chance of crashing every two or three hours.
