But I really hope that most peoples attitudes isn't "why would we buy music when we can pirate it" these days. If it is, maybe the RIAA should be suing people.

You seem to think only the little guy can commit a crime.

It is a crime for large companies to fix prices and kill competition. It is a crime to harass under-privileged children and the handicapped. It is a crime to take 1000s of dollars from common people who probably cannot afford it, who just may be downloading music because they can't pay the highway robbery prices charged for 5 cents of plastic and 9 bad songs. It is a crime to also harass artists (you seem to think all artists are actually happy with the record labels -- please read up on John Fogerty). It is a crime to force John Fogerty into court and him prove that he doesn't sound like himself in hopes of raping him for more millions than you've already raped him for (does the tune "Vance Can't Dance" ring a bell?). It is a crime to attempt to hinder innovation by forcing worthless and spent technology (CDs) just so you can keep a hold on your empire.

Do you honestly think it will stop with people downloading music? As more and more artists are able to create music outside of mainstream record labels, congress will be lobbied, somehow, to shut that down. The RIAA is a monster with money and they will use their huge reserves to continue to harass all sides, not just the evil people you seem to think represent the real villians attacking the harmless RIAA who, after all, care so much for the artists you mention....

At some point, decent people get riled up over injustice and finally do something about it. These RIAA lawyers have been bullying pre-schoolers long enough. "I'm telling my big brother" is coming home to them.

Use the market RIAA. Learn to compete. Give up on old technology and old ways of distributing music. Nobody wants to buy your 5 cent disk with 9 bad songs for highway robbery prices just to listen to one song you should allow to be downloaded at a cheap enough rate so that folks will stop bothering to pirate (not steal; remember, pirates are simply a form of entrepeneurs).

I actually attended seminary and graduated. I spent a decade of my life studying philosophy and theology. I had many talented professors with degrees from Oxford, Princeton, name it. Not one ever advocated a literal six day age for the earth or creation. All were extremely careful to give ALL possible explanations including fully embracing evolution. They were also careful to say that hard science is not theology. Theology is an endeavor to understand, as best as possible, God or the concept of God. You do not even have to believe in God to study theology (some of my teachers were atheists). Theology is a relational study. It is a liberal art. Some people decide to apply the bible as hard science, but I've never known an educated theologian who did this.

Understanding an argument means understanding the other side, and I really think you don't.

To quote Lewis, "I was an atheist and as a former atheist I must say that you are not one. You are a god-hater, and a god-hater is not necessarily an atheist." (paraphrased)

Exactly. A lot of clueless, ivory-tower folks around here. I cannot, for the life of me, understand how they don't get that not everyone is privileged, or lucky, or given the same chances in life. Before most common people have a chance they are addicted to big tobacco, have kids they can't afford and credit card debt they can't pay back. To top it off, they've changed bankruptcy laws so that, now, they can't even escape that massive debt. And these people haven't even finished getting their wisdom teeth most times.

People are raised in environments that affect them. Rich inherit wealth, poor inherit poverty. People struggling and trying are tempted by credit cards. I know people who pay more for bottled water price-per-gallon than gasoline... and they complain about the price of gasoline.

I've heard the "your starbucks cappuccino costs more than a gallon of gas" argument before. What a load of bull. People don't NEED to drink coffee or bottled water. BUT PEOPLE NEED GASOLINE. And they need far more of it than a cup of coffee or bottle of water. What a privileged life you must live. The folks buying expensive water and coffee are not the folks really being hurt by the high gas prices. Just because someone with money complains, doesn't nullify the problem.

I helped a lady push her car to a nearby gas station recently. She was hoping to make it home on her last bit of gas. People like her have kids, minimum wage jobs and can't afford, hardly, food and housing. Gas prices are killing the low-income folks in this country. Where is her means of getting around cheaply, dependably?

Meanwhile, others are concerned about music and copyrights.
