Have you ever had an original thought in that empty fucking head of yours? Like 15 people have already made this point, in fact someone makes this point every single time Apple or the iPod is mentioned. I mean really, have you ever uttered a word, had a thought, or even slightly had a neuron fire that wasn't just the byproduct of someone else's.
Shut up and stop being such a fucking parrot.
This is assuming of course that you can't just drop your drive with OSX into another mac, right? Obviously you can take your Linux environ on x86 and move it from IBM to Dell (for the most part this works, although I've heard problems moving from say IBM to Compaq for example) Yes, Apple does have a hardware lock-in meaning if your Mac dies and you don't have another Mac around you'd be screwed.
But, I don't feel guilty because Linux is great, but sometimes a difficult child and Windows is bigger brat that Linux.
Apple has not decided to allow WMA on the iPod, that story from yesterday was poor journalism by the guy who built winsupersite.
Apple may move to WMA, but I very much doubt they will so long as the iPod holds a commanding lead in the Mp3 player market and the iTMS holds the lion's share of the DL market.
But, no one at Apple has stated that they are moving to accept WMA. This is still FUD.
Goddamnit. Editors, please look this work up!

Americans can be utterly clueless about other countries, but I have traveled a lot and I've found that humans are humans and most everyone is clueless about the mistakes of their own countries and often claim that theirs is the one that is free from corruption, stupidity, or warmongering. In my experience, in my knowledge of history, this is pure horseshit. Nation-states are mobs writ large, dangerous, panicky, and prone to make the worst decisions possible.
You still haven't said where you're from, and I think you wont' because its convenient to hide behind anonymity rather than admit that your country and your government might not be exactly perfect, and furthermore that would require you to get involved there, rather than sitting from a far and bitching about America's often unfortunate cultural exports.

Wow, so where are you from now? Just curious, because I've often found that not only are Americans clueless about their country, most others are too.
Also, just because a 'large proportion of the World believes' anything doesn't mean its true or valid, we as human beings have believed all sorts of stupid things, as the article suggested. The point actually was to get beyond those easy ideas, i.e. America is the greatest nation on earth, or the worst nation since Rome. Either way, your ideas are simplistic and general.
I would love to hear your country of origin, until then, fuck you too! Cheers asshole.
I call bullshit. I had my TiBook sent in for repair on Friday, it came back on Tuesday.
I think you're probably a pain-in-the-ass who demands and complains. I know of a "business-class" client who was about to go on a trip, Apple sent a 17" PB to his hotel so he would have something to use in leiu of his dead machine. So, personally, I think you bitched, complained, whined and demanded and got exactly what you deserved. By the way, I also have dealt with Dell's and Sony's and they been less helpful than Apple's staff; for our dead Dell we got to send it back and it took 15 days. For our dead Sony Vaio 9 days, which was DOA and had to be immediately returned.
But there in lies the problem with subscription services, you don't own this music, you loose the music when you are away from the internet, you can't download it to a player. Futhermore, ff you don't have broadband it must take a long time to get that 1 gig cache, which means you spend a significant amount of time twiddling your thumbs waiting for your music to begin playing.
Plus, if Rhapsody fails you're doomed.
Basically, this is a renters solution.
Please actually know something before you post. Wait, I'm sorry nevermind, everybody does it.
Thanks for playing.
And stop linking to dirtylittlesecret you bunch of ****ing morons.
What the hell are you talking about? I don't even understand your sentence, are you trying to say you can't network a mac unless you plug in an external device? Show me such an item, or maybe you'd realize that macs have used Appletalk since their very beginning and even pre-Internet could be connected together by a grade-school kid.
Now, each Mac offers Ethernet, 802.11b/g, Bluetooth, Firewire, USB.
So, again what exactly are you trying to say.
Will the real Europeans please stand up?
I'm so tired of comments like this, first I'm an American, second, I've been to Europe 7 times, third Bush is an idiot, fourth Europe is great, but not any better, cleaner, smarter, or healthier than the US; Canada is merely colder. You can argue statistics, anectodal evidence whatever you've got in your Limmey hands, but simply I've been everywhere and it's all the same.
Also, for the remainder of this arguement: economics is not a zero-sum game. If Brazil becomes the center of the world for IT, then the US can sell grains (like we do with the rest of the world) cars, aircraft and a zillion other products and services. The US still has wealth in either case. Brazil gaining some ground and making some money is good for the World's economy.
Besides, I think a Limmey would know better, you guys still can't figure out the metric system.
It's definitely less responsive, however it contains all the extras that OSX offers, so I've really enjoyed using it on a 333mhz PB. The most important thing is memory, 356+ to really make it work.
Yes because MS encourages competition at all costs, they love us and wish us to be happy.
MS will try to enforce its software into the total MP3 player market and we will be stuck with another variation of the Windows CE vs. Palm situation. I want more options, I want more new ideas and not MS's wonderful chokehold.
So thanks, but no thanks.
'Nuff said.
Ah....useful.
The PPC architecture seems to be approximately twice as fast, so 800 = 1.6, but Panther might make things slightly faster than even that. 800 = 2.0?
But, what is really important, how much work can you get done.
My 550 TiBook easily outclasses the 2.2 PC I have sitting on my desk simply because I can trust OSX a lot more than Win2k.
Your milage may vary.
Which means....drum roll please....that when the US economy falters, so does yours. In 1929 when the US stock market collapsed, most of the economies in the world were affected. The market returned just in time for WWII the Marshall Plan, the creation of the UN, WHO, CDC, and a bunch of other acronymns. The United States is not Rome, its Rome Super-sized. When Rome fell, Europe fell into darkness and warfare for two centuries while the great Byzitine Empire huddled in a corner and waited for Turks to sack Constantinople in 1454.
My point, the US is not the gleaming tower of freedom, but we are also not the oppressive states you keep mentioning. We may have funding Pinochet, the rebels in Nicaragua and even indirectly the drug-lords of Columbia, but so has Europe. The French, you remember seized Vietnam from the Japanese and then proceeded to suppress Ho Chi Minh and his ilk, who the US even considered helping until he decided to become Communist and accept help from the Chinese. The Belgians, you remember raped and pillaged the Congo so badly that it has yet, even more than a century later, to revive itself. And the Japanese, you remember killed more Koreans and Chinese in concentration camps and mass murders, including the rapes of Shanghai.
But, the US gets all the grief. Americans just inhabit this world like the rest of you, but somehow because we managed through a serious of blunders to become the world's superpower suddenly means the rest of you (Europe, Asia, etc.) suddenly didn't cause anything. I say bullshit.
Anecdotal evidence suggests actual data apparently.
