We were also considering doing a blanket-block of.swf using DG. We would then white/greylist sites that are actually education-related that required flash. Obviously this would require some input from the teachers, but since adding a site to the whitelist takes all of 30 seconds we didn't think it would be a problem.
I'm actually curious as to why I didn't push that one further. It's technically possible to do, and it's already been setup and ready to go behind commented sections in our banned* files, I just never 'switched' it on.
As for SSL proxies, our network is locked up pretty tight behind our local firewall, then a council firewall, then god knows whatever else before it hits the internet. (The way it works in the UK is for schools to have their internet go thru their local borough council, then that goes thru to an ISP then out on the net...)
Damn right! I'm a sysadmin at a school and we do exactly that. Dansguardian and Squid together are wonderful tools!
I don't know what everyone is fussing about really. Never had a problem with DG - seems to block everything you want it to without any issues if you know what you're doing.
Thank God I'm not the only one who was scared by the Engineering deck! I replayed SS2 the other week and the amount of apprehension I had about going into the cargo bays was immense!
Ugh. Everytime I hear about Invisible War I can't help but cringe.
I really don't know what they were smoking when they decided to make that game and call it a sequel to perhaps one of the best FPS/RPG games ever made (IMO).
I almost cried when I played it, I was that disappointed.:(
At least Thief 3 kinda kept to the theme of the Thief series. Though I still think Thief 2 was the best - The city level when you're heading across rooftops etc was awesome...
As long as there is no way the same media companies can track what you download elsewhere, I don't see the problem in this. Is Azereus open source? If it is there won't really be a way to hide snooping software in there.
I believe it'll be a good thing that will help Bittorrent be seen in a better light. I just hope it'll remain as cross-platform as the bittorrent client.
If you used your guns to try and take on the government you'd be labelled as a terrorist and have most of your country out for your blood. Comparing the EU to Nazi Germany... Well, you've just invoked Goodwins Law.

You can do this from Flickr, including posting to a blog.
Seriously, I have yet to actually have a GOOD experience with Wifi. At two of the sites I support we have wireless laptop trolleys (18 laptops, 2 access points - the recommended amount) and neither of them "just work" like they should be.
This isn't my incompetence either before you assume that. We setup one of them, and the other was setup by an external company. A company, I might add, that had to come in about 5 times before the damn things worked with some semblence of being wired to the network.
Wifi is the most overrated buzzword technology in existence. I appreciate it has it's uses (laptop + toilet) but goddamn, you aren't beating a length of good ol' CAT5 yet.
I'm sure I read somewhere that the guy who pulled this prank disappeared after it was completed? They didn't hear from him again - mail, phone, chat, anything.
Ah, I found how to get all the thumbnails for images - just thought the front page one was it. Silly me! It's very slow though...
Been having a look at finding a solution for a problem I had a while back with udev not being happy with my nvidia card. Look at the differences in these results and tell me which is more useful: Live - Google
What's the deal with the scrolling in the search window!? I don't understand it, those slider bars are just annoying and (though I use a scroll wheel almost exlusively) not having the standard scroll bars down the side of my browser window is awful!
The image search isn't that good either, as I can't easily find a way of displaying thumbnails of all of them.
On the upside, it's returned more relevant results than MSN search so they seem to be taking a step in the right direction.
Think I'll be sticking with Google's clean uncluttered interface for a bit longer yet though - it has yet to fail me!
Seems a bit overkill for just a budget (that's all he's asked for anyway). How much is that product? An (essentially free) spreadsheet should do the trick.
If you're having to constantly redesign your spreadsheet you're not doing enough planning. Think ahead. Sit down and design your spreadsheet and try to plan for everything as best you can, then go write it.
Nothing wrong with the spreadsheet we use to track our budget cos it was well planned out!

Whenever I hear "Deus Ex II" mentioned I feel nothing but anger.
There are no tears. No tears will be shed for what I will do to the development team of DE2 once I get my hands on them...

Man, I love that game.
Ugh. Everytime I hear about Invisible War I can't help but cringe.

Damn, I gotta dig that game out and play it now.
Not one use of the word "edutainment".
PS3 turns out to be a massive failure and 6 months later is bought by Microsoft.
That's where I stopped reading.

and possessing a dirty mind isn't the best thing to have when reading a title like "Store your own juice."
Guns won't help you out in America.

_Damn!_ Linus is _really_ on the ball these days, _man_.
Everyone is moving to wifi, anyway.
Over my dead body they are! Are you joking?

Exoskelingtons are SO Terra Nova... Bring on the mechs!
I think he was just pointing out other sources that aren't open but that are very popular.
There was a second or two when I actually believed this story.
With the current state of our Government, would you really put it past them to do something like this?
Man, that was awesome. If you weren't already modded to full I'd mod you more.
Er... When you configure your kernel, leave the checkbox for DRM unticked?
What's so hard about that, that you'd rather be willing to jump ship?
I'm sure I read somewhere that the guy who pulled this prank disappeared after it was completed? They didn't hear from him again - mail, phone, chat, anything.
No! Do not buy this game.
It's more addictive than morphine, crack and heroin. It will ruin your life.
I finished a game the other week. Had it since it came out. It's just THAT replayable.
...To the RIAA/MPAA
