I've got a wireless webcam, a zaurus wireless pda, company assigned laptop, my linux development desktop computer, my Apple G3 running LinuxPPC (my gateway, web, imap server), My oldest son't room with a Linux based AMD 64bit server, a
mini mac, a sharp zaurus, my 2 youngest boys room and thier computer and a laptop up in thier room, my hombrew robot, a hacked compaq IA-1 that runs linux that I use to monitor my firewall, email, etc.. All these devices get to the outside world on 1 ip address. I have multiple servers that are accessed by the outside world via port redirection as well.

That was a lovely story, but you could have just said, "I use NAT and port forwarding."

Also, what's the difference between IP masquerading and IP MASQUERADING? Is the latter more l33t?

Damn right. I work at a University and my job every summer is to produce or update the Windows build for the computing labs.

This comprises nearly 200 pieces of software, all of which has to run correctly under a student account, all of which authenticate as a member of the Guests group on the lab machines.

It's a nightmare job to do - I love it though. But, it would be made a hell of a lot easier if I didn't have to piss about with relaxing security on areas of the filesystem and registry when that information could just as easily be stored in the user profile or under HKCU. Grrr.

    And your point is?

I worked at a facility when they implemented Active Directory, and re-implemented Active Directory, and re-re-implemented Active directory, and re-re-re-implemented Active Directory. Eventually some contractors came around to each system that was dorqued and fixed it, sort of. They had to get help from both us contractors, and the local systems guy.

Then it wasn't implemented correctly in the first place. Just because it's Windows (and therefore largely point-and-click) doesn't mean that it's easy to implement a large infrastructure with it. You have to know what you're doing, and clearly whoever implemented yours didn't - otherwise why did they need the external contractors? As for the contractors needing help - they probably didn't know what they were doing either...

I work at a institution that migrated from a Windows NT4 domain to a Windows 2003 Active Directory last year. We have nearly 30,000 users.

It worked first time, and it still works.
