I never considered them a good company for the last 2+ years, especially since they floated. I heard they are f$@%ers. It reminds me of Atari. They start off loved by all. Then they grow and get swallowed up by all the shitters that care nothing for IT,, they're just trying to turn google into a cha-ching $$$ band wagon.

I recently applied for a job with them but I will happily milk them for a few months and then fly off,

You don't really exist in the conventional sense. You are more an abstraction. So too is your operating system. Your imaginery friends call you all the time to arrange getting together to add on more features to your imaginery OS. You will always buy the fair trade bar of chocolate for $5 before the bag of smarties @ $0.50 but thats ok, because although the cost to your productivity by using HERD now runs into the tens of thousands, that is more than made up for by the imaginery dent you are doing to the Microsoft corrporation. You could be from anywhere but you might well be German and as you know very well, its dangerous to purchase proprietary software but it's ok to stone someone else to death for using it!

Besides, everyone knows that life exists on Mars, and that we just haven't built the proper technology to find it yet. Who is going to take responsibilty for fucking up the entire Martian ecosystem?

I was in Chicago in 2000 and though the train system ws good and you had more fast food options, mobile phone uses was way behind. Back in Ireland, my little sister (aged 13 at the time) had a mobile phone, while our relatively affluent American cousins had 1 mobile for the family ( a fairly arcane looking mobile too). Nokia (finland), Siemens (Germany), and Ericson (Sweden) - all big European mobile makers at the time - seemed to have much better market penetration. Ireland has always had "the gift of the gab" do I suppose it always seemed that awy. Maybe it was just Irish people blabbering on about nothing!! I f****** hate mobiles. I get on a bus to go to work and see muppets everywhere exchanging illogical trivialities in my face. It's like being pissed on.

Thats a very good point for another reason. We have shown in the past that we are likely to destroy ourselves. Every major empire on Earth has always collapsed in the end and slowed down technological development with it. But we can break out of that loop if we spread to other "rocks". Say we populate Mars and Venus. With Venus, the atmosphere is a runaway greenhouse effect so we would have to stip allot of the atmostphere off by diverting huge asteroids into it's atmosphere's path. once we have spread to half the solar system we can undergo a prolonged campaign of removing technology and going back to nature and paganism. Then we can start from scratch from our ignorance as we will not have been corrupted. Then some day Venusians s of the future will invest huge amounts of money on exploring "this Earth" because it supports life and they will discover that although there is evidence of an advanced civilisation there, it is only now populated by animals and they are in fact the decendants of Earth. Then they will send missions to Mars and find the Marsians are in fact decendants of Earth too but they have not developed technologically as well as the Venusians ( the low gravity has got to their head!!)
