I hate to say it, but for $15,000 you could have paid for 20+ months of full rack rental at a datacenter. At least that's the cost here in Austin, TX. Now of course, that doesn't include bandwidth, another $350/month for 2Mb/sec. So maybe we are talking 15 months.
But I think it's going to cost you a lot more money to build a REAL datacenter (on a small scale) that can even match a pre-existing datacenter.
I also use NAV and it works great. I added the common subjects for this virus, plus an email address or two then added a DSBL list. Done.
Stop it in it's tracks.
I agree.
I spend more time fixing things that people with degrees cause than anything else. They read a book or two and think they know it all. I am sorry but the little things that count most cannot be found in books.
Example: Most MCSE's
The fact that SCO is trying to get people to pay for Linux makes me sick. But I am still confused as to why "analyst" think this will push people to MS products. Unless SCO decides to put a $1,200 price tag for a 10 user connection license (Windows Server 2003 10 user), Linux will still be cheaper.
I don't/won't give SCO a dime, but I wish the press would stop spreading FUD.

By using computers supplied by the college I am sure the student give's up those rights, along with the rights to legal action.
1. They replicate quickly - okay, Windows does that.
2. Viruses use up valuable system resources, slowing down the system as they do so - okay, Windows does that.
3. Viruses will, from time to time, trash your hard disk - okay, Windows does that too.
4. Viruses are usually carried, unknown to the user, along with valuable programs and systems. Sigh... Windows does that, too.
5. Viruses will occasionally make the user suspect their system is too slow (see 2) and the user will buy new hardware. Yup, that's with Windows, too.
Until now it seems Windows is a virus...but there are fundamental differences:
Viruses are well supported by their authors, are running on most systems, their program code is fast, compact and efficient and they tend to become more sophisticated as they mature.

They want to much money for a 233. I don't care how small it is.
Hate to brake away... but Symantec has a gateway product that filters EVERYTHING you tell it to. In 2 months we have dropped 20,000 emails. 99.997% were spam/virus.
There is a simple setting within the GroupWise config that can cause/remedy this. Again, this would be something that is overlooked by an inexperienced sysadmin.
We've been using a GroupWise system that I built from scratch 3 years ago. The server has NEVER crashed or lost any data (knock on wood). Notify however has caused a handfull of crashes on some Windows 98 boxes.
Look into your IT staff... not the software maker. This isn't MS where they are usually to blame. USER ERROR.
I have seen many people put Novell down recently with all the SCO crap going on. But the truth is, they really do make great stuff that nobody can compete with (right now). Linux/Sendmail/mySQL is great (I use it a lot) but everything from Novell is just easier to deploy (flame bait).
You're obviously uninformed...
Your one of those guys that says crap like: "No No No, don't use that program, it was crap in the early 90's."
Get with the times sucker.
Your probably one of the 250,000 MCSE's in the US that knows nothing but "Okay right click here, then there, then reboot, over and over."
You're irrelevant.

So if I go to the store and buy a software package, then get home and read the EULA and disagree, can I take it back?
Has anyone ever tried this? I might go buy some cheap game at BestBuy and try to take it back and tell them I don't agree with the EULA.
Let the war begin!
I second that.
I also use NAV and it works great. I added the common subjects for this virus, plus an email address or two then added a DSBL list. Done.
Stop it in it's tracks.
Not when it's a function that's doing the same thing.

If I have a Post-it(R) on my fridge that says "buy milk" and so do you
Why should they worry about re-wording a freak'n comment?
There is nothing wrong with having the same comments.

I agree. It's like telling someone that you invented the light bulb, and if they believe you, charge them for it.
I think FRAUD is the word we are looking for.
I need all the Wilson help I can get!
Everybody stop downloading this! This guy has a feeling!

MS Windows is a virus:
...
Here's what viruses do:
1. They replicate quickly - okay, Windows does that.
2. Viruses use up valuable system resources, slowing down the system as they do so - okay, Windows does that.
3. Viruses will, from time to time, trash your hard disk - okay, Windows does that too.

So Windows is not a virus.
It's a bug.

There is a simple setting within the GroupWise config that can cause/remedy this. Again, this would be something that is overlooked by an inexperienced sysadmin.
The way GroupWise handles attachments is a plus. I think sendmail is great but you can't replace GW's calendar/groupware setup.

You mean since you got laid off cause you couldn't keep up? If it's a huge network, Novell is running it.
... I think your network has a security hole.
Go check Windows Update
Boy have you been left out in the cold. I think IPX has been left out since 6.0 and an option since 5.0.
More great stuff from them.
... can anyone challenge GroupWise?
