A big issue that only a few people have touched on is the fact that when you enter your preferences, you are choosing to not have the device associate with certain people. Now, while this may be a boon to some, keep in mind some of the best friendships/relationships are had by people who are complete opposites of each other. This device works directly against that.

Also, part of being compatible with someone is having your differences and working around them together. Yet you'd never know about those differences you could work around if you decided to filter out that type of person.

This device looks extremely useful, or rather the concept of it, but it will never be a substitute for real social skills.

I don't know how good of an idea it would be to have Americanized dating sims....I mean...don't get me wrong, I've played a couple translated Japanese ones and enjoyed them, but I don't think our society is quite yet ready to handle them.

Also, I'd be interested in a REAL perspective on who actually plays dating sims in Japan, as opposed to some blatantly offensive GameSpy article. Is it a publicly accepted genre? Or do people get mocked for playing them over there as they would inevitably be if they played them over here?

The last reason I don't think we should Americanize dating sims just yet is that the people who create mainstream entertainment in our culture still have yet to learn how to tell a good story. I mean, take a look at Hollywood for example, every now and then they turn out something decent, but for the most part its crap. Same with video games. And of all the types of games out there, dating sims require some of the BEST storytelling. You simply can't compensate in a dating sim with better graphics.

Phone companies sold people caller-id to help stop telemarketers. Then they sold people caller-id blocker, and so on and so forth. And that is just ONE of the examples of when they've done something like that.

Hopefully in this day and age of corporations getting a lot of bad press for treating customers poorly, AT&T will decide NOT to be completely stupid.

The second believes that kids need to have some reasonable respect for privacy and that if you try to hide it from them, they will figure it out.

Well, if you couldn't tell from the previous text, I am in the second camp. And I can tell you that BECAUSE my parents gave me a reasonable degree of privacy, I was more truthful to them. I also increased our trust, because I felt they trusted me to make the right decisions.

Now, I'll be the first to admit, I've done some things that I probably shouldn't have, and I will never tell them about it, and they MAY have found out if they pried more into my life, but guess what, I'm a better person for experiencing those things, and I also would have lost all my trust in them if they pried enough to find out. Now, I'm not saying I'm innocent in all this, I'm just saying them knowing about what I've done and trying to make me feel bad about it wouldn't have changed things in the least. I would have still done those things.

Parents, give us kids SOME credit. We're not as stupid as you think we are. We do learn from our experiences.

I agree with all your points except the one I quoted. Why should your child have to be willing to converse about masturbation with you? It is a very personal, private thing for many people. I certainly would never talk to my parents about it, nor do I feel I should have to. It is called PRIVACY. Also, what if your child had a social/mental issue that they wanted to handle themselves and didn't want you involved in? What if it was between them and another friend? Do you feel you are privy to that information?

Kids who grow up in families where they are allowed no privacy become very good at creating their own, in whatever way they can.

And this paragraph right here somes up the attitude of the rest of your post, or namely, why you wouldn't be hired.

Guess what, the vast majority of HR people ARE NOT STUPID. You would be stupid for not providing a suitable answer if you wanted the job. A better answer for the 5 years question might be, "working on a career path with room for growth", or maybe "being able to make better business decisions after I've completed my MBA in a couple years". The interviewing elsewhere question? I ALWAYS say I am interviewing elsewhere. Guess what, it shows you're desirable enough that people want you to come and interview with them. It shows that you aren't desperate. While they may not give you "pity", they certainly will view you as a more valuable person.

This is the one thing I hate about posts like yours. They assume that the HR people are stupid, and don't know their job, and that they are only out to screw you. Guess what, if you take on a different mindset, and can manage to persuade them through interesting and well thought-through answers, they'll hire you.
