is make a zoomable map, starting from a full global view and scaleable down to neighborhoods that shows coverage maps for those areas. The global part is there simply because of how cool it would be to observe the progress of wireless technology and watch it envelope our globe. Or at least make an index of cities/towns with available free WiFi spots with small mini maps of the area and possibly a MapQuest link for directions on how to get there.

  3. The main significance on Intel's 'Personal Server': The Handheld Killer? · · Score: 3, Interesting
The main significance that I see with a system such as this, where its use is merely to store data to be read/modified by other devices is that since now we can store this part of the computer, imagine how much power you could suddenly cram into a "handheld" device. Now I think we will see a small breakaway from that concept and into another concept which I feel will bridge the gap between handheld users and wearable users. Slowly we are seeing the modular wearable computer form. If all you need to hold in your hand is a screen/speakers/input device, suddenly you are working with significantly more space to play with if you remove the processor and HD and memory to a wireless unit stored in lets say.....a backpack.....or a purse....or a briefcase........or a jacket pocket. We can't always just move to smaller devices, sometimes we need to split them up, and then individually shrink the components, and this is a good step towards doing just that.

I would be extremely grateful for any such graphical representations of these kinds of things.

In America, we tend to do things for the largest target audience. In this case, it just so happens to be the scores and scores of fans who love DBZ and stuff like that. Now, granted, I went through my DBZ phase too, but once I really got into it, and discovered the fansubbing scene on IRC (irc.aniverse.com for starters) I realized how much I had been missing out on. You want real anime? Try LastExile, or Wolf's Rain, or things of that nature (all of which you can get info on at http://www.animenfo.com). Fact of the matter is that while the networks here may have one or two good series, they will never have enough good series to bring in enough people to make it viable. Fact of the matter is, if you like anime, and I mean the good stuff, not half the dubbed (don't even get me started on dubbing) junk on tv here...you have 3 choices:

1.Be in japan and watch it there

2.Buy dvds and be ripped off by suncoast or buy the Hong Kong imports

3.What I see as the best option....download it off the net, through IRC or what is now becomming the best option, bit torrent. Check out http://www.animesuki.com for starters. It has some good current series on it.

And for all you trolls out there who don't like anime, perhaps you'd change your tune if you had seen some anime other than pokemon and tentacles.

I believe in either the April or March issue of Wired they had a comic towards the end where the military used TONS of mini robots, there were like, 3 different types. And they were all dropped onto bases where they suspected the evil guys (who looked suspiciously middle-eastern) had bio-chem weapons. The guards there shot some with flame throwers and stomped on the rest, but many made it in, and since they're the size of bugs, they can hide really easily. They all had cameras and would take footage. But here's the kicker, they were ALL controlled by citizens, like a giant MMOFPS kinda deal. Teams would control a single robot, one driving, one using camera etc. If they saw something, they'd hit their alert button, and if enough people in the immediate vicinity did as well, the msg would go through to the military who would then patch in and look at their feed. Very interesting comic, and lets just say that THAT would be a killer app any day of the week. Taking video games to reality is the next step I believe.

Ok, I wager that its pretty impossible to determine what is a revolutionary idea until after said revolution, ie. you can't tell without the benefit of hindsight. So, given that. I would say that Napster and its spawn are all revolutionary ideas. I mean, the idea of being able to search for a specific song without browsing racks and racks of CDs, then download that song, and be able to listen to it on the computer or other listening devices is simply a revolutionary idea. But once again, you can't really tell without the benefit of hindsight, so its really anybodies guess.

Current candidates I would pick for innovative would be some of the p2p stuff that has evolved in response to the **AA's. Also some of the current concepts in gaming, like, The Sims...well, it may not be much to look at now, but once we have technology that could handle it....imagine a lifelike immersive game that simulated every aspect of life, or at least many of them. holodeck. Every geeks dream, I know, but the practical uses, such as experimenting with things in the simulation and having it provide data that is applicable to the real world would be mindboggling. And yes, then there's the pr0n.
