Yeah, a new information age is coming...as long as the schools can afford the $10 million for the minimum order.
Although I wonder what the margin is on this and if someone could buy an initial block of them and resell them at a SLIGHTLY higher price in smaller numbers. That might help some places that aren't able to afford it out.
I know this is a naive thought, but I think we would all be best served by not turning the moon into a natural resource farm. First off, what happens if we strip mine that sucker and change its mass significantly? What are the chances of it being pulled in by the Earths gravity?
After thinking about all this, I was reminded of an anime called Planet ES, which deals with the near future when man has begun migrating to space and inhabiting the moon. The wealthiest countries reaped all the rewards, and the underdeveloped countries were left behind, being fed scraps and having no part in one of the greatest successes of mankind. Now, given the current state of global affairs, how likely does this sound?
I know many people here are saying its the optics that really matter, and they just want a phone without a camera, etc.
I can respect what you say, but the vast majority of people just want a simple decent resolution camera that they are practically guaranteed to have on them at all times.
Now, for all you non-photo people out there, a cellphone is probably the electronic device you are most likely to carry around with you everywhere. I know that instead of a new digital camera, I'm looking for a camera phone now, so that its one less device I have to carry around with me.
And as the file size increases, and as the prices on wireless internet transfers drop, a camera with the ability to send pictures to a home base wirelessly is going to start being in big demand since you won't have to buy massive memory cards for it.
Right, because people don't kill people, bullet-proof vests kill people. Sheesh, well, at least I don't feel like the US has the only dumbass government in the world.
(No offense to you canadians, I'll probably be looking to move there soon if things keep going the way they are)
There was a LAN place near me for a bit, was really cool inside. It had comfy couches, dark lighting, sweet rigs, and just a nice gaming atmosphere.
It went under a few months later. Why? Because not only was it not generating enough revenue (but keep in mind this was in the burbs), but also because these days, people are more likely to have similar setups at home.
Things will never switch over entirely to open source as long as there are people who desire to have more than other people. I mean, thats the whole point of accumulating wealth isn't it?
You think the game is disgusting? Fine. Don't buy it, don't play it. But don't go telling game companies what games they should and shouldn't make. If people want to buy and play this type of game, that is THEIR CHOICE.
I'm swear, I'm so fucking sick of others trying to force their morals and beliefs onto me. I personally would LOVE to play a game like this if it were an accurate historical simulation. Even moreso if the rifle and physics are very accurate. Frankly, I think we could use more games like this. How about one where you are a jew in a concentration camp and you have to try to escape?
What's that? That is evil and shouldn't be made as well? Well, as a jew who has spent serious time studying the holocaust, I'm ok with it, and since I'd be the one buying the game, IT WOULD BE MY FUCKING CHOICE!
God, I just wish that just once I could run into one of these evangelical morons, have them try to force their world view on me, and then beat the first amendment into them. Ugh. Don't they have anybody elses lives to worry about? Like their own?
Gah, yet another troll. Not all of us are lying, souless bastards. Many of us are very intelligent, very good with people, and are actually *gasp* ethical.
I mean, here I am, someone from the industry, and I'm reading Slashdot, consider myself a full-fledged geek, am a huge privacy advocate (oh the irony), hate Microsoft, like OSS, know all the Slashdot inside jokes, etc.
God, give it up people, everybody is an individual, and while some individuals have tarnished our industries good name, and while you may not like the fact that someone tries to figure out ways to sell you things, we are necessary to make the world go round, and some of us are actually nice, caring, intellectual, and ethical INDIVIDUALS.
As someone in advertising I can definitely agree with this. There's a reason accountants don't like marketing/advertising people. Its because they can't calculate out the ROI we're going to give them accurately. Advertising has always been a guessing game, and those of us in the field who know what we're doing have come to accept this and have back up plans in case our advertising fails.
I really have no pity for websites that cry out "oh woe is me, those thieves are robbing me blind by blocking my ads". Remember, you are not given a right to profit. There are no laws stating people cannot block your ads. Accept it as a cost of advertising in a risky medium with a non-captive audience.
Just going out on a limb here, but maybe they're ignoring his car because its ugly?
All kidding aside, I'm not trying to troll, and I know that there's probably some merit to his claims. But for the love of god, why do all these new efficient cars have to be so damned ugly? The prius is hideous, so is the echo, and now this?
I know some people will disagree, as beauty is in the eye of the beholder, but come on...
Oooo, almost forgot, are there any white LED bulbs that screw into regular lamp sockets? That would be absolutely fantastic. Haven't managed to find those either though, so if somebody knows a website, please linky linky.
I notice on their website that these are for outdoor use only.
I'm looking to install LED (preferably white) lighting inside my apartment with either ceiling fixtures, or floor/table lamps, but have been unable to find any websites that sell the lamps. Can anybody point me to some websites with some info on interior residential LED lamps and lighting?
I've actually heard from people who have played it that ship combat is ALL about how good your ship is and what skills you have. Which basically turns it into "who has the most time to play the game and acquire the best stuff" instead of what REAL ship combat should be about...skill.
No problem David. I'm glad to see someone actually soliciting and taking into consideration the users comments. And while from an objective standpoint, your word on protecting our privacy "don't mean jack", it does seem like you care about the issue and will be doing all you can to address it sufficiently as you have seen the kind of responses it has generated.
I do have to say though that while I love the idea of the egg timer, it seems like it would be more appropriate as a stand alone program or a browser pluggin than as an IM pluggin. But just my 2 cents. Thanks again.
"I think that it's correct that trust is a big issue here. This is part of the reason why we tried to create a privacy policy that would clearly hold your private data as sacred to us."
David, please take this as constructive criticism. There is very little a privacy policy (no matter how well crafted and no matter who reviews it) can do to alleviate people's privacy concerns. What people on here are asking for is a technical solution to make absolutely sure that you couldn't invade our privacy whether your wanted to or not (not trying to say we don't trust you but you know...). The only way I can think of to do this is encryption. Remember, legal promises never stopped anybody from breaking the contract if they wanted to, but encryption would.
So in summary, the control over our privacy needs to be in our hands, not yours.
For those who don't know, he posts a lot of rehashed news on his blog and then by some act of god (or Benjamin Franklin) gets his stories constantly posted to Slashdot, which gets him massive ad revenue.
I recommend that nobody visits the links in the story to deprive him of this ad revenue.
Like I said, its all what you can afford. I'm sure run of the mill medicine might be better over there, but if I need some serious surgery, and can afford it, you can guarantee I'd get it done here over anywhere else in the world.
In regards to the carrot bit, he basically answered by saying "we're going to give you another hit of crack from the Skinner Box at some additional points in the game to keep you hooked".
Which brings me to MY question of "what is CoH doing to get itself out of the Skinner Box model that all MMORPGs today currently fit into? The closest thing I've seen to a MMORPG stepping away from that is Second Life and ATiTD.
That's really whats turned me off from every single MMORPG out there though. I start playing, think its cool, enjoy the new game, but then realize that its the same damn skinner box model, and in the end the purpose is the same, level up your guy, gain new abilities and equipment by spending additional time in the came pushing the same damn lever over and over again.

Of course the first person to steal that data would most likely be labeled a terrorist and be...disappeared.
Well, I'm sure there would be SERIOUS economic changes, but in order for this thing to function, it would need resources, which countries control.
This would either lead to war over resources, and a desire for people to control those resources. Think about that and what it leads to.

I'm the starter of this thread, and as an American, I think its ugly as hell.
