I have a NAT firewall, and so does my friend. Somehow we're both able to use Skype without changing our firewall setups. How is this possible? I thought P2P had to connect direct to each other, but most other programs require some changes to the firewall to open ports. I don't remember configuring any incoming ports for Skype.
Can someone who understands Skype and TCP/IP explain how it works? I know code, not networking.
I went with some three year olds and it is a bit violent. Kind of like the other Brad Bird film The Iron Giant, everything is awesomely rendered, great story, but then things start blowing up. People really seem to get hurt in this one and it's made quite clear the bad guy really means to kill to family. It's not like most cartoons or toy story, where you know they can't really get hurt.
Especially when the invisble girl is being hunted by a guy with a machine gun...
The incredible huge File Sizes is really the only thing that have stopped movies from being copied as commonly as MP3/audio. Broadband is just getting fast enough and common enough that that you can download full DVD length movies in a day or less.
I wonder if the new even more republican congress that just squeaked in will have any more nuts like Orin Hatch.
I have two incoming phone lines here. Is a PBX like Asterisk only cost-effective for office environments where they are paying thousands per month for bandwidth, or can this also be used to replace my current 2 line POTS setup?
I have some spare computers, and would love the add voice mail, caller id, etc. Just wondering about keeping my existing phone numbers and monthly costs. When would I break even?
I haven't heard of too many decisions where governments and especially businesses would make a minor sacrifice to affect a larger benefit in the future.
Copyright is not censorship, it's a short term government supported monopoly. It's meant to stop people from publishing works you created without giving you the creator something of value. To give the creator control over his or her works for a period of time.
The problem is that copying is so easy to do now, and that organizations like the RIAA and MPAA have manipulated current copyright law to favor the big guys. That doesn't mean you throw out the whole copyright concept, just bring it back under reasonable control.
It's not censorship, no one is saying you can't share information. No one is trying to stop artists from playing or selling their works. No one is going after people for creating works they disagree with. They are trying to stop people who are not the artist from giving away copies of the artists works.
There is a big difference between sharing information and sharing a 100% perfect digital copy of a song, movie, or program.
Copyright is the Law, it's written into the constitution. It's very clear that sharing most copyrighted songs IS breaking the current law.
Don't try to cloud the issue with right and wrong like this is the civil rights movement. You have no Right to a free copy of the latest Eminem Mp3.
Please think a little and don't call someone an idiot based on a two sentence response that is in fact true. Sharing copyrighted songs over the internet without permission is copyright violation.
I've seen this before. Star Trek TNG Episode 106 - "The Game". Sure it looks neat, but in reality it's an addictive mind control device meant to enslave humanity. Obviously this guy is already a slave to it.
Judging from the release date it must be the finished version of Duke Nukem Forever. After 100+ years of development it would be a hell of a game.
And that's set up a China style firewall around the entire country & limit its citizens information access within its own borders
We would never do something like that! People can access whatever information they want whenever they want. We just monitor WHO accesses WHAT and log everything for later.
Pretty impressive if they can do it, still I wonder what modules are loaded? Are they really compiling or just linking? I wonder how fast my P-133 would boot...
It compiles and loads itself, then loads the kernel. Still you have to wonder what's doing the compiling and loading of the source? Sounds like one of those compressable compressors.

People aren't nearly as stupid as most geeks like to think. A big problem is that most "smart" people seem to be unable to communicate properly and that science really does come off as boring.
The reason most people find science boring is because it's so poorly presented. A Brief History of Time, and The Elegant Universe were both NYT Best Sellers. They explain amazingly complex topics in a way that's interesting and understandable.
Create some programs that deliver science with respect for the viewer and understands that if it doesn't seem interesting it's a fault of the show, not the viewers. Bring out the human and social factors and don't just dryly spout technical jargon.
Microsoft were never Good -- you're right about all the others, but technically MS have always been crap, and business-wise you have Bill's "I am the anti-RMS" letter to kick things off.
For a while Microsoft was good by being Not IBM, kinda like John Kerry is good because he's Not George Bush.
This must be the new SCO version of the word entrepreneur.

To paraphrase again...
"In the land of the X eyed, the X+1 eyed man is king."
I believe in most cultures it would be more like
"In the land of the X eyed, the X+1 eyed man is a freak".
Or perhaps
"In the land of the X eyed, the X+1 eyed man is king where x = 0"

First they ignore you,
Then they laugh at you,
Then they fight you,
Then you win."

Brings a whole new meaning to "my server crashed".
