isnt cisco working on an antivirus solution that runs at the router level? I do recall hearing this, however, the current status or success is unknown to me. Technology *could* work the same way, however the processing power and memory requirements i would think would be astronomical

perhaps have the big ISP's force the new system on its users. AOL is a biggie. get all the end users to adopt the new system, then businessness and non mainstream ISPs will follow so they dont lose business

The company sees its a good idea, but instead of paying the inventor, they tell him to shove off and make they make their own. The patent system protects against this.
When Kazaa Lite did it, it was down to just another corporation, profiting from piracy.
exactly how is kazaa lite profiting from anything? its completely free and promotes and integrates tools that in my opinion help the network, things such as the integration of peer guardian, automatic node hopping, AVI preview, auto find more sources... and many more. To say its profiting is just crap
Most importantly, why wasnt anything updated? Yet another example of a patch being out, and foolish/lazy sysadmins not updating their systems. It doesnt matter what OS is being used, there is no excuse for not updating your systems (especially on critical systems such as these). Upto date (i update daily) Virus scan and automatic updates kept my system clean, while everyone else i knew started falling prey.
Id imagine these would be a hit at blockbuster... rent the dvd and dont return it. --just throw it away. wow how convienient. thankyou mpaa for making my life so much easier.
From what ive read, once the disk is exposed to oxygen the disk will slowly turn opaque via a chemical reaction. The data will still be there, but the laser wont be able to read the data... however during the window of a few days, it should behave just as a regular dvd and one should be able to rip it just as any other dvd.

I still dont understand why Microsoft cant put in whatever they want into their OS.(Internet Explorer, spreadsheet prog,... anything they want.) It is MICROSOFTS OS. They should be allowed to put in whatever they want. I agree that microsoft has used ilegal bullying to sell their products, but thats another argument. XP has a built in firewall... and who uses that for their firewall? You can use whatever firewall you want. If I buy a Saab, it comes with a Saab steering wheel. If i dont like it, i can change it. Some people seem to reason that after i buy my Saab i should have to buy a third party steeringwheel in order to drive it. If consumers dont like M$'s business... buy another OS.
Why cant ISPs check header information and check to see weather or not 111.111.111.111 is a valid block for the domain someone@somewhere.net if it is, then let it pass. if not throw it out.

i do hate popups, but this kind of web patent is sickening. patenting frames, popups... its just not fair. i saw someone on planetsourcecode try to copyright somthing that was little more than the line 'msgbox "whatever he put here", icon , "dumb project". It just doesnt seem right. i can understand copyrighting programs like windows, or redhat... but getting a patent on say, echo "hello world" is insane and not fair. clearly there is a diffrence between Deus Ex and 4 lines of javascript. Deus Ex gets a copyright, and javascript boy does not.
