There is a reason that the PC systems are fatiguing. They usually have screens built-in to the glasses so that your eyes are one inch from the screen. You try watching television for any length of time at this distance.
Of course there is the other issue which the brain does have difficulty in coping with, and gives you fatigue. When you move towards the target and said target goes "through" your head, your brain starts to hurt...Well, you start getting headaches anyway. I suppose this could be a new "in yer face" type controller though...
the student was punished for failing to follow instructions, not for using Firefox
And you get this information from where exactly, or are you reading between the lines of a headteacher?
Whether the student was right or not about Firefox being a "better" browser, it appears that there were numerous requests to stop using it, period. So? Oh, sorry, you're one of the ones that doesn't allow "thinking" and using initiative! You must be from the thought crime unit, the one where any thought outside of that which is fed to you is reprimanded!
Maybe the school had an IT policy in place that prohibits the use of any other browsers then the one provided. This is an assumption, and is why our kids are so indoctrinated in a capitalistic approach on life (extreme capitalism = facism).
all we do know is the student was being an ass. Wow, justice the military/red way. Guantanamo bay rubbed off on you? Where exactly did you pull that fact from, or just siding with the "authority figure"?
He was instructed to do something and ignored those instructions. WOW! now I REALLY want to know how you reached this completely unconnected conclusion, please enlighten.
At the end of the day, neither you nor I know what happened, and discussing this on a site like slashdot, well, I obviously don't have anything better to do at the moment;) If the kid was being an arse, good on the school. If the school was being an arse by not allowing the student to express their own ideas and thought while still providing the required work results then the school is totalitarian. Either way, I don't speculate on what happened.
I would whole heartedly recommend "The Sparrow" and the sequel "Children of God" by Mary Doria Russell. Mary has only written these two sci-fi/theology books (usually non-fiction writer) but they are by a long shot some of the best light reading I have read. Highly recommended.
If I go on holiday to Thailand I SHOULD be able to pick up goods locally and take them home. To block your customer from doing this they should make LOCALISED LANGUAGE versions so that I won't WANT to buy it cause it would be in Thai and I don't speak Thai.
Take this further. If I AM Thai but live in the UK 6 months and in Thailand 6 months I need to buy 2 copies of the game? How fair is that?
What about Valves "GIFT" idea? If you own HL-2 or any part of the orange box already, you can gift a friend your key. Does this mean that I can only gift my UK friends now? What about my French, Belgian or Luxembourgish friends, or even my US friend? Is this not tantamount to RACISM? You can only have UK Friends...
Your argument is patently absurd and is my argument as to why patents in any form whatsoever is BAD! Let's use the wheel as an example. Say patents had been around in their current form back when the wheel (or the cog, or a whole number of other things) was invented, do you think we would be where we are today with cars, trains, mechanical devices (including watches due to cogs) etc? No, we wouldn't because the patent would have been tied up for the last x number of years (what is it now, 75 years?) and no other usage of a wheel would have taken place...(or cog). No Windmills, no bread. No bread, no food. Hell, we would have starved ourself to death as a human race.
And that is physical. We are now entering a world of method patents. Method to extract value from patents. Method of outsourcing. Method of masturbating (BIG ka-ching here). Where does it all stop?
Without a SHADOW of a doubt, patents are holding up human development and innovation. It is the single most destructive force in the evolution of our technological presence. Until such idiocy is removed we will be stuck in 21st century technological rubbish for a long, long time...
You'll probably tell me that companies should not be expected to do research and development at huge cost so that they can be copied in 2 months time by some cheap chinese manufacturer. What happens if I, a layman in company terms, am developing xyz. Huge company Y comes along, and develops something similar and has the money to patent it (while I don't). Is my development worthless then? Not to me. I believe I should still be able to develop my idea and if company Y just happens to pip me at the post that is not fair and I should NOT be required to pay a license. If I USE their product to create mine then that is something else. If I can show that I have developed my own product that just happens to have been developed by company Y but I can show that I have actually designed my own version then that should be ok. Just because the end-result is the same shouldn't prevent me from making my own version in my own way, just like designing a wheel, it has to be round, but the thread can be different. Still a wheel, but I designed my own way.
The United States assumed territorial control over Guantánamo Bay under the 1903 Cuban-American Treaty, which granted the United States a perpetual lease of the area.
1903...before Vietnam, before Gulf...hell, before WWII.
Don't fool yourself into thinking the US is any better than any other country. The only difference I see is that while middle eastern countries rely on old (and babaric) techniques of torture, the US military has honed its skills to a point of excruciation that you have not even the slightest idea of. Ask a woman, she might know, at least for a few hours...now extend that for months and years and you just scratch the surface of the mental and physical abuse that is performed and the hands of US military personnel in the name of Justice. Until Guantánamo Bay is well and truly closed never to be populated by an American "justice fighter" I will consider America as the top most contravening Geneva convention and humans rights abusers this planet has ever seen. The mere fact that a US person ignores the perils of such a place is tantamount to assistance. I will take no lectures, thoughts or beliefs or even believe in the American dream or future until such a shameful place no longer exists.
Going of topic now...stop here if you want to...
Americans should, and are, rightfully ashamed of their current president, I know I am of my prime ministers of the last countless years. In fact the whole world security is just a shameful mess right now. Iran building nukes, US building more nukes and a Star Wars programme. UK building more nuke filled submarines, Russia building nukes and starting to fly reconnaissance flights again. Middle east in absolute turmoil, China in crisis, India in an almost nuclear deal of the centure (we build nukes but do not sign the non-disclosure). Oil and Gas running out, companies dragging their heals on alternatives, free speech being impeded. Oh God, I am gonna stop before I want to kill myself.
A whole mess...all because the UN has become a joke and dialog is no longer considered useful.
O say, can you see, by the dawn's early light,
What so proudly we hailed at the twilight's last gleaming,
Whose broad stripes and bright stars, through the perilous fight,
O'er the ramparts we watched, were so gallantly streaming?
And the rockets' red glare, the bombs bursting in air,
Gave proof through the night that our flag was still there.
O say, does that star spangled banner yet wave
O'er the land of the free, and the home of the brave?
If only McBride had read Slashdot before embarking on this most ridiculous litigation of IBM et al. then he would of realise way back then that this was the case. Yes, Linux is taking market share...There is a very GOOD reason behind this and it is not because SCO Unix is very good!
No, James Bond (Pierce Brosnan and Halle Berry) used one in Die Another Day...Towards the ground they eject themselves from the plane and parachute down...Hope its cheap then or my tax dollars are being wasted on James.
1) Fast-forwarding through adverts (or even switching off my TV during adverts). 2) Covering up parts of my screen. 3) Not reading EVERY single piece of post that gets shoved through my letterbox. 4) Putting my fingers in my ears and singing "lalalalalalala" during radio adverts.
etc. etc.
I would agree that it is theft IF I was being paid in some way to read/watch these screens. I am not. Just cause you get revenue from advertisers that allows you to lower the monthly cost to me doesn't mean that I am "required" to watch/read/listen. If I excercise that right and it hurts your profits, increase your prices. Don't expect me to remain a customer should you do this though, that choice remains mine. BUT DON'T FORCE ME TO WATCH/READ/LISTEN to stuff I DO NOT WANT. If you don't like this I will find another supplier/website etc.
Is it illegal for a dealer to sell the car outside of the designated states or is it illegal for dealers and consumers to sell outside of the state?
If I buy in California, can't I sell my own car in another state? If this is the case surely one of your (I am from UK) ammendments would cover this liberty to sell your own property in any state?
If a person or entity can purchase the cars and sell in another state then the way around this stupidity of a law would be for the dealer to actually purchase the vehicle in California and then send it to a dealer outside to sell. Hence the Californian dealer is the official owner/seller.
Wooo hooo...Great Idea!!! The police can set up loads of Gatso (a.k.a Traffic Cameras) for the internet. Place them everywhere. If your caught, 3 points on your license. 12 points and your banned for 6 months and fined £1000...All you need is the ISP to be your traffic cameras...and voila...Orwellian society awaits...
There could still be value in the SCO name, and there is still value in the SCO Unix software (IP rights even if they don't actually "own" them). Any company wanting to get into Unix world or use the SCO brand to get recognition will be buying (who will NOT be watching SCO?).
Will it be taken over? Depends on its debts...Too high then unlikely. However, if there are not debts there is value in SCO and if you can get it for a few thousand before it crashes...You already got MASSIVE marketing possibilities: New SCO. Your Foe becomes your Friend, with YOUR SCO (a.k.a FFS, acronym).
How about, for conspiracy sakes, that Microsoft is buying SCO stock on the cheap...It already made a deal with Novell so I doubt if SCO would be required to hand over to Novell any of the 95% of the SCO deal as Novell and MS have already squared this one...Hell knows it needs a better kernel! Then, in competing it will evolve the technology of linux/unix legally into its Windows product, close SCO down (maybe selling the name should it be worth anything) then go after Linux users for infringing on its code because it can prove that many lines of code in their closed source windows product can be found in Linux and therefore own Linux...Oh wait...deja vu...
If MediaDefender have an "internal" website, password protected or otherwise, with copyright content and the MPAA swears blind that they have no working relationship with MediaDefender, can we we to expect the MPAA to charge MediaDefender with copyright theft?
Exactly, I can still buy a coca cola or a pepsi in Cuba...In fact, I can pretty much buy anything I want in Cuba as when I go I have the money to do so.
These machines will most likely be exported from Spain who, it would seem, also don't care what the US thinks...thankfully.
Like your level-headed government is such a reasonable and level-headed group to deal with. I think we all saw that during (and still) the Hurricane Katrina...Where's the rebuilding projects?
And before you paint a general stroke of your brush against all cubans, maybe you should like, you know, know more than what is spoon-fed through your questionable media...
Not to mention that Elian's father, the rightful person to decide his own sons future and his own life, made the ultimate decision. (For your information here I doubt if Elian's father would not be in prison or dead) The courts just upheld what was plainly obvious...
Don't blame the people, blame the government which is responsible...
While I in no way agree with censorship in any form (albeit when law is broken, e.g. child porn, rape etc) for entertainment purposes, I am also somewhat happy that this game has been banned. Not because I don't want to play it (I will because I know how to get it), but because I live in the UK and see, everyday, the self-serving, bigotted, hard-ass youth of today. Their vocabulary (I am not perfect) beggers belief (I physically find it hard to enter an expletive after every word in a sentence but the current youth seems to have mastered it).
This is not a general observation, but there are far too many "hoodies" (as they are called here) for my liking. They seem intent on destroying their own lives as well as those around them. Oh, and when I say youth you can include people under the age of 30...
Back to the topic: Manhunt 2 in the hands of the above type of people would, IMHO, be dangerous to the general public by encouraging a behavior that is already rife within our (british) society. Not necessarily murder, but definitely anti-social behavior. For example I have been spat at, cursed at, attempted ram by a motorist obviously needing the few extra milliseconds between a safe distance and my rear bumper.
Of course there is the other issue which the brain does have difficulty in coping with, and gives you fatigue.
