    you're right, but at the same time consider this. I live in fredericksburg, va, 50 miles south of wash. dc and 50 miles north of richmond. va. All three cities are connected by Interstate 95 and US Route 1. No matter what, if you travel from wash to rich, you will lose signal in military base areas. in addition, there are some very desolate spots in this 100 mile stretch where if you exit the interstate or travel too far off east or west of Rt.1 you will lose signal, but if you stay on 95 or 1, you will have a strong signal for the entire trip. Not so around quantico, i will go from four bars of service to one bar to none, in a matter of 5 secs.

    Do you use 2.4GHz telephones? That is what kills my connection 95% of the time. Either mine or the neighbor's (small apartment complex).

    the X was not an existing technology, but a denotation of the letter following the 802.11 standard. 802.11x could mean 802.11a, 802.11b, 802.11g or anything else.

    yeah, i was going to mention the same thing. notice you never have good reception (or any at all) near military bases? I watch as i get closer to quantico, my phone slowly.... loses... signal.. and then as i pass it, and continue up the interstate it gets better.

    Because of MS's ability to interface with different hardware as well as software they have taken a challenge and overcome a lot to do what they have done. I don't think MS is perfect, but neither in Linux, so until the day when one is, i will run a MS box and a Linux box and enjoy the best from both worlds.

    Had long forgot of that little guy. Remember the Tengen baseball games that lacked the official NOA Seal? I even think there was a disclaimer in an issue of Nintendo Power advising gamers to avoid those games!

    Sorry, off track again.

    i wonder had Jaleco/Lucas ignored the censorship, and decided to forgoe the seal of approval would the maniac manson title have done so well? Probably not, as it wouldn't have had NOA behind it, and if anyone remembers the RBI Baseball (Tengen)games, they were decent, but didn't sell all that well.

    very true, but at the same time, i'd rather work sixty hours a week doing something i love than forty hours a week doing something i didn't.

    sorry, a little off topic, but i think it fits with the above mentioned problem with the web today, plus, it's fresh in my mind, cause i'm dealing w/ a PITA type of guy right now.

    Certainly makes an arguement for forgoing a cutover, but rather keeping two seperate networks. I will keep my current 802.11b network seperate then, to increase speeds for my actual PCs on my 802.11g segment. Why maintain a 802.11b network? Because I'm not going to replace 802.11b wireless usb adapters in machines that are only connecting to the internet and nothing else, such as my TiVo and Playstation 2. But at the same time I want as close to 54mbps as possible when I'm grabbing files off the laptop in the living room.

    Yeah, antennas don't respond well to guesswork.

    I don't know if I agree with that or not. I do happen to remember my father adding aluminum foil, coat hangers, and various other sundries to our standard set top pair or rabbit ears to increase the reception.

    it wasn't rocket science. it wasn't science it all. it was trial and error.
