    lol. Uh, I got the bill perhaps? What started as a great deal turned out to be a merely decent one. I still saved money, but once I factored in the cost for my time, it was probably close to a push. Then again, if I'm a student, my time is worth next to nothing and the end result is more favorable. :)

    There ought to be some requirement that only habitable are counts towards the tallest building. To hell with spires and radio towers.

    Why is your choice limited to only Linux or Windows? There are numerous Unices out there with compilers that have no such restrictions. Yes, you have to pay for the OS & compiler (just like you do with MS), but I fail to see why your options are so limited.

    Oh, BTW, you're going to get modded into oblivion, since you are both offtopic and slamming Linux, but you knew that.

    I don't disagree with you that the patent system needs reform. However, in my 45+ years on the planet I cannot recall having sufferred as the result of any patent. I recall sufferring when I broke my leg, when my heart was broken the first time (to name 2), but neither of those were the results of patents.

    But, maybe I'm just lucky.

    Or stupid.

    ...this is a recurring theme in the "how to solve the spam problem".

    You will not change every person's behavior. Especially if it changes from doing something for free to paying to do the same thing.

    The spam problem will only be solved by changing the underlying technology that is invisible to end users.

    That way, you only have to change the behavior of every postmaster. :)

    I have worked with a couple over the years and have one now that I really like. Good, honest headhunters are a lot like reliable babysitters. Extremely hard to find, but they do exist. And, once you find one, you do everything you can to preserve your relationship. (Unless it's a babysitter and your last name is Kennedy :)

    how many times have you searched for something on google, only to find that the search engine spammers have taken over almost every top 10 result?

    Ummm... not very many. Then again, I try not to search on "teen panties" very often. :)

    That reminds me of the winter I spent in Chicago. I needed some galoshes to protect my shoes and keep my feet dry. Back in New England, we called them "rubbers" (I am not making this up). Needless to say, a google search on "buy rubbers" did not yield the intended results.

    I live in California and am in an 11% bracket. Sales tax = 8.25% Then there's miscellaneous taxes on utilities, telecomm, and fuel.

    I am an American, not really on a rant (though I'd certainly like to pay less), and, I assure you, pay over 50% in federal, state & local taxes.

    Sure there are some side effects of having stock prices go up for a company The cost of capital springs immediately to mind. The more value your company is perceived to have, the easier and cheaper it is to borrow money.

    The point, which you obviously missed, is not who wrote Linux, but the difference in the levels of zealotry and how the message is delivered between Linus & RMS.

    I think I wasn't clear in making my point. I'm neither happy nor unhappy.

    It goes to the old adage, "You catch more flies with honey than with vinegar." By taking what is viewed by some to be an extreme position (not the concept, but the associated zealotry), I believe that RMS has alienated a significantly-sized group of people. Not because they don't like or agree with the concept, but that they disagree with his associated zealotry.

    It's similiar to the reason why some people won't use qmail or djbns. It's not that they don't like the software, it's that they perceive the author to be an asshole.
