*sigh* having more market share is not an excuse. Just look at Apache vs. IIS and you'll see that more market share does not automatically equal more security holes.

AIDS itself cannot possibly kill you. It is not a terminal desease. AIDS is an immune system deficiency syndrome. In other words the reason why it's so dangerous is that your immune system is depreciated to a point where it can't function anymore, so other deseases can easily infect you, make you seriously ill and even kill you. In western civilization this isn't mostly life-threatening because you if you don't contract the deseases in the first place they can't hurt you, and through antibiotics and western medicine most of the times you get sick can be treated before it gets to the stage where it's fatally dangerous. A lot of people who have AIDS live long lives.

The reason why so many people die in Africa is that the lack of western paranoid hygene means that getting exposed to virii is quite common and because doctors aren't available even a common cold is deadly. However for the purposes of this conversation we're not assuming that everyone lives in Africa, and, since the purposes of my previous statement was to refute the claim that if everyone in the world contracted aids then everyone in the world would die unless they had that mutant gene,

Apart from the fact that I don't live in America (let along "middle america", whatever you mean by that), I do actually know what I'm talking about, and I do have friends who have contracted AIDS.

Have you looked? I've had loads of people who have said that same comment and given me specific programs where "there are no linux versions of them" and all but one there were linux equivalents, alternatives or even ports, or they ran quite well on WINE; the one where there wasn't was a very specific request where they wanted something exactly the same. Perhaps your comment would be more meaningful if you posted the names of those programs, as there is quite likely to be linux alternatives for them!

Mostly for a coorperation's point of view it's because of the extreme security (both internet and protecting users from themselves!) and less purchase and maintainability costs. It is also faster than windows (if you try to deny it you have never used linux before, especially with fluxbox!). From a user's point of view there's not much difference except you can customize it more and make it more specific to the application to have it more user friendly...
