I used to listen to X104 a couple of years ago (actually, when I was in High School). It used to play really interesting music, such as independent techno and dance music.
I tuned in recently, and I all I could hear was the same generic commerical Rap/"R&B" that every other ass clown radio station in Seattle plays.
If anyone is interested, there is another HS radio station called C89fm, run by Seattle Public Schools. It plays content similar to what x104 used to play and even has a webcast so I can listen at work.
Its a great break from the average commerical crap radio in Seattle.
I am completely amazed that this person is acutally NOT an American (as I am, don't worry, no foreign criticism here).
Apparently, in our courts and society, ignorance of the rules, or in fact, ingnorance in general, is usually enough to get yourself out of trouble (or at least, excuse yourself from it).
People have brought up a large number of similar cases (most notably coffee), where people basically claim ignorance (unreasonably) and try and make a legal case out of it.
I didn't know the coffee was hot, I didn't know plagerism would get me kicked out of school, et cetera. What sickens me more than when people wrongfully claim ignorance, is when judges don't throw that shit out of court.
The only reason why I wished this show would get cancelled is so that another ST show could get the chance. I really thought Enterprise blew it with their 9/11 plot arc (season 2 finale) and I haven't watched since.
I think it will take a completely different show to get things ''back on track''.
Using one language gives them a common way to talk about algorithms. The whole point of using Java is that is a syntactically clean language that allows students to worry about concepts instead of harder to use syntax. Having an AP test with 5 languages would prove nothing, especially since its for HIGH SCHOOL students and is meant to replace an INTRODUCTORY language class.
As far as your other ideas are concerned, they are way beyond the scope of what the AP test is trying to address. This point of the test is to give students the opportunity to learn some programming in high school with a computer science approach. This basically means ADTs. With ADTs comes runtime analysis, but the tradeoff measurements you suggest are better left to a dedicated algo class.
Basically, the AP test is meant to replace the 100 level in college, not the 300+ level.
Dude, I hote your not talking about Mutant X. That was the worst rip-off show I have ever seen. The acting was so bad, one couldn't even watch it to laugh.
Uh, dude, they already have this right. This has been around in the user agreement at Universities for quite some time. When I went to the Dorms at UW, I believe I signed on to this with my living agreement, not to mention that you probably agree to this when you receive your computer account.
Don't worry, I certainly know the difference. I just figure that as part as MOST 4-year CS degrees, you have the option to take at least ONE software engineering class as well as technical writing. I know I did (I'll be graduating... right... about... now)
I've had this problem in my recent recruiting adventures. What I found to be the most correct assumption is that if you are looking for a simple programming job, it won't pay much.
If you search for a job as a software engineer (which you should be prepared for given a 4 year cs degree), the starting salary should be much higher.
I've recently interviewed for two positions at the same company. The software engineering position paid signifigantly better than the programmer and one of the recruiters and I joked about the likelyhood that the programmer would eventually get outsourced.
This seems to be a pretty common thread in American companies. Programmers, in the view of corporate America, add lines of code. Software engineers add value, and are much harder to repalce and ofter make much more. Who are you going to replace? Someone who writes codes ``head-down'' all day, or someone who designs the product, meets with customers, documents and eventually programmes?
Some of the standard API pieces are very slow. I've had particular trouble with anything related to the Collections framework, and Strings are even worse. Avoid these.
That makes a lot of sense if you iterate through strings or vectors a lot, since their operations are O(n). If you are interested in speeding this up, let me recomend the TreeSet (or Map, I can't remember). Its a tree, so most operations are O(logn) and much quicker. Also, be smart; I've found myself doing some really supid things from time to time with O(n) operations in loops that end up being O(n^2)
Its not that 1 GB is a marketing number, its that your 1 GB isn't ``reserved'', ie, you have 1 GB quota, not dedicated-on-some-disk reserved storage.
I can't remember the last time I needed 1 GB of email, but I can certainly assume that most people won't need that much and so they are going to be using a lot less space per user. Especially with decent spam filtering.
I use about 20 MB for my email, and 99.9% of that is the week's spam load.
The other thing is really obvious... Just becuase it is a drive up ATM, it doesn't mean that the driver is the one using the ATM. I've had my friend drive to my bank while I was in the back seat and went ahead and used the drive through ATM from there.
A blind person could do the same if someone drove them there. It allows them to use the machine without assistance.
Telling MS not to include WMP in Windows is really stupid. Why the hell should people who want nothing more than to watch the occasional video off the internet have to go out, find a video player, install it and download it? Why couldn't their player be included? Its like if IE wasn't allowed to ship with Windows, it would be pretty damn hard to browse the web, even if its to go over to mozilla.org and get the latest stable build of your favorite browser. What if QT wasn't allowed to come with OS X or Xine/mplayer wasn't allowed to ship with boxed versions of Linux?
Lets put it another way. Lets say the US government cracks down on Ford's monopolistic practice of putting stereos in cars. By including a basic stereo with my car, they block compeition with Alpine, Sony et cetera. Sure, I can rip it out and buy an Alpine, but damn, its already there, so I can wait for a bit.
Its the exact same situation. I would be pissed if a basic media player didn't come with my OS, just like I would be pissed if a factory stereo didn't come in my car. In both cases, I've ripped out what comes from the factory, but it was nice to drive around with my crappy radio for a few weeks before I upgraded. Its not like not having that very basic radio would have saved my any money. Replacing MWP is one of the things I sometimes do on my PC, other times, I augment its features with another (though, RP can eat shit and die for all I care). By including it in Windows, I was given choice between keeping the basic or moving on.
Dude, its called funding. At UW (Washington), we needed a new building, which was going to run around $70 million. The state was willing to put up $25 mil, which left a lot left to cover.
So, when I come in in the mornings, I go to the Paul Allen Center, cross the Microsoft Artium, go down the elevator to the Baxtor Lab (or something, I forget this part)....
This in addition to the Bill and Melinda Gates Commons, numerous name plates et cetera.
Yeah, its kinda wierd, but well, we have a world class building for Computer Science and Engineering.
Yeah, and that point being, is you actually have to have a user account or access to one. You can't get in to the system using this exploit, just something to do while you're already in.
Actually, I looked around on Wikipedia, and as it turns out, I was wrong about the term Zaibatsu term still being used (it is in American to describe what I was talking about, however).
The real politcal leaders are the heads of the major businesses (ie, Mitsubishi and Fuji etc) and the banks.
Its been known for quite a long time that the Diet is basically a joke and their PM answers to business, not the other way around. I forget what its called, but their trade and industry ministry is where a lot of the real power is, and this raid likely came from there with pressure from the business leaders.
This really isn't a suprising move, since monopolies are very common in Japan, and only problem is that they ''influence'' the government through the Zaibatsu.
This seems like ploy againt American monopoly in Japan. Perhaps on of the big vendors over there is going to try and push an alternative OS? I've heard that the Linux movement over there is pretty strong, so maybe corporate interests in Linux are playing a hand there?

The inivisible-pixel-that-downloads-a-IE-vunerability trick is particularly good at defeating this level of security.
I don't feel safe unless i'm reading my email through a CLI...
Of course its fair use.... it just happens violate DMCA though... =)
Before or after you install DeCSS? I had to do so to run xine or mplayer from Drake 9.2

The mean age in Japan is approaching 70
Uh, I thought that sounded a little rediculus, so I thought I would check around. I was right according to the this: CIA Factbook
The mean and median ages are barely past forty.
Actually, I looked around on Wikipedia, and as it turns out, I was wrong about the term Zaibatsu term still being used (it is in American to describe what I was talking about, however).

How the hell do you mark an article -1 Toll?
I thought this was kinda cool, so I looked around for a java applet and found one: Its pretty cool.
