George has said several times that part of the reason why the prequels were so long in coming was that he didn't like the fact that people were devoting their lives to his movies and he wanted to discourage them from doing this.
He might have said this - but I somehow doubt that the presence of a few extreme fanatics would have any significant effect at all on the production of his new films.
It also complains loudly about a number of things I use on a regular basis - FTP server, VNC
It *should* pick up on these two - if you're advanced enough to have a use for them on your system, you're quite capable of telling the program to always ignore them.
If, on the other hand, a typical home user finds a FTP server or VNC on their system, who has no idea what it is, or why it's there, it's likely it's not been put on there for their use.
IAAL, and darned proud of the modern justice system...
1. Everyone accused of anything in court has a right to defend themselves and make the accuser prove it. This system protects every other right you have. 2. The folks at LokiTorrent want to exercise that right. In order to do so they need financial assistancec.
So, you're proud of a system that requires somebody to have a large amount of money in order that they can defend themselves?

Trillian Pro offers 128-bit encrypted 'SecureIM' on ICQ (and possibly AIM), which you can use if you're paranoid about such things (although it does require both clients to be using Trillian).
That seems like a legitimate investigative technique.
Yes, though the main concern of mine is that he says the FBI were using subpoenas that were improperly served - how many people wouldn't bother checking, and just give up information straightaway?
Man, I don't know what's worse... women drivers or women computer users!
One thing of interest is that the article specifically highlighted the female user - whereas, for men, it was just a user.
The gender of the user in the list was already specified by the 'his/her', so I have no idea why they needed to specifically point out when the user was female.

Indeed, freezing the drive can be an effective way of recovering data for yourself, as many people have done.
Now, consider that the 'research' is done by a company called 'Ontrack Data Recovery' - I wonder what possible motive they might have for trying to tell people not to do this....
Amazingly one guy froze his hard disk in an effort to retrieve files.
I'm surprised to see this - a friend did this successfully to get his hard drive working for a while, and I've seen a fair amount of other people reporting success with it on the internet.
One thing that concerns me is that, although the BBC website had this story on their front page this morning (~4 hours ago), at the time of posting I can't see a single trace of it on a couple of American-based sites, such as CNN.com (or Fox 'News'), not even under the 'Election' coverage sections.
Would everybody please stop reading "Politics:" topics so we can get back to Nerd stuff please?
This story isn't even listed in the main section on the default homepage, so to see it there, you need to specifically alter your profile to see all Politics stories.
So, my advice is, if you don't want to read Politics topics, don't view the section:)

It's possible that you've got steps 1 and 2 the wrong way around ;)
Can VNC or an FTP server be used to spy on a computer? Yes, of course they can.
In fact, it seems like an effective method of doing it, considering that most scanners wouldn't pick up on them.

It probably won't work on Windows either ;)
We already do - the story posted just before this one links to the BBC site, as numerous articles posted here do all the time.
The BBC News server is probably constantly under the Slashdot effect, though it doesn't make a noticable difference.
Just remember, security by obscurity is bad! ;)
If you can defend yourself successfully, nothing.

It appears that HTML profiles are planned for the next version (3.1), as well as possibly UPnP support (which should help with file transfers).
However, saying that this report is Labour spin is like saying that reports on suicide bombings in Iraq are 'Democratic spin'. It's not, it's news.
It'd be good to see more companies releasing code like this - a good example would be iD, releasing Quake's source code under the GPL.
We are their customers, their clients and their users. Without us, they're nothing.
Well, I'm just glad it's not of old people ;)

I'm not quite sure how you've got first post then ;)

This might be modded up as Funny, but, unfortunately, it's also Insightful.

As the story poster, I did actually read the article, and saw the very first line of the article, which states the following:
Tens of thousands of postal ballots have gone missing in the US state of Florida
On Amazon, it almost certainly got numerous rave 'reviews' months before the code was actually completed.
