CS:S, as you say it, "evolved" from being the most popular video of all time on this planet. CS:S, IMO, is exactly what the CS commununity wanted. I completely disagree with the cynical views of people that say it is a cheap way to make an extra buck, by just recycling an existing game. I applaud Valve/CS mods for rewarding the community with a "graphcially up-to-date" release of CS.
Wow! People just always want to turn their heads on MS and blame another application. The grandparent poster's point was that if Cygwin was a poorly written application (and I'm not debating this here, it may very well be the worst app ever written or the best) and crashed, it should not be able to take down the entire OS. A good OS should handle poorly written code and buggy software and minimize any side effects it may have. Worse case scenerio, it forcibly terminates the application and you lose all data. Too many people have gotten used to BSOD and have accepted it.
You have freedom of choice as do the rest of us. That's why it is not up to you to decide what is best for millions of people to do with their recreational time (Assuming you live in a free land).
Very good points...but justifying money saved by not having this procedure is assinine in most situations, mine for sure. I had this corrective surgery about 4 years ago...
Money Saved on...
Doctor visits: ~ $50-75 / yr
Contact lenses: ~ $250-300 / yr
Drops, cleaning solutions, etc: ~ $50-100 / yr
Replacing glasses: ~ $50 / yr
Forgetting I ever had bad vision: priceless
As you can see, since my surgery 4 years ago, these expenses really add up and will continue to for years to come. I find the whole surgery rather affordable considering.
I am only 24 years old, but I took my earnings and splurged on corrective eye surgery 4 years ago, and to this day, I believe it was the best investment I have ever made.
However, being that I depend on my vision in all aspects of life, I researched my options and went with the most experienced and most reputable. Kremer Laser Eye Center was my choice as they make safety a top priority and was the first US institution with approved equipment for lasik surgery. I live in the area of Kremer's main eye center (King of Prussia, PA) only about 20 minutes away which made my decision even easier. Anyway, their prices were a little higher then their competitors, but from the beginning, I had the attitude that my eyes were worth premium service.
As I stated above, it has been nearly 5 years since the surgery (which btw, was very quick, smooth, and extremely painless) and I have no problems or regrets. I have recommended this to many, and have not encountered a single person with serious vision complications as a result of this surgery. If you decide to go through with this, do your homework, ask many questions, and be sure not to cut any corners just to save a buck...with todays technologies, there is little chance of recovering your vision if the most unfortunate were to happen. Good luck.
This really isn't a trolling response, but all of these "hardcore-follow-the-standards" people are missing whats most important. That the page you build works correctly on the MAJORITY of browsers.
I make sure all my code is XHTML and CSS compliant, and that it works and looks good in IE, Firefox, Lynx/Links.
Too many people let their personal emotions get in the way. Most of the people with the same view as the parent here are anti-Microsoft, anti-BillGates, and pro-OSS. This is fine, except when it clouds your view of perspective.
"giving IE users a big 'ol middle finger" only makes you look like an incompetant programmer. Don't misunderstand me on this point, I know the browser does not render to standards, and that is a problem with the browser, not the site, but, to people that aren't programmers and don't know this (the majority of the population), they will only view your site as a POS.
Open your mind and see the big picture, not what your emotions are leading you towards.
The only reason I can think of for this type of restriction, would be to prevent the use of this game on a public machine, such as an internet cafe, library, school lab, or similar. Perhaps the license packaged with the game does not include public use like this, and requiring administrative privledges is the best way the company could think of to enforce their license.
YES!
Paying $2000 worth of taxes on a $10 item does not hurt the goverment or cheat them out of any money. It _is_ technically fraud (because in the case that the parcel was lost or destroyed and insurance was purchased, the shipping company would be liable for paying out $2000), but other than that, I doubt that any government will make a big stink over this.
It's not a difference in interpretation, it's a difference in reading comprehension, the original poster (and obviously you) are not comprehending what you are reading correctly.

It is the differences in styles of the communications that the poster is referring to. With IM, you add people you know to your contact list, but with IRC, you join a disscussion group based on topic usually. It has absolutely nothing to do with linux, the OS is independant.
I never said I liked MS but they're not the one's suing everyone. SCO is.
The letter suggested that SCO would now be at least $15 million in debt if it were not for MS. This basically means that SCO is a puppet which MS controls to some point. If MS decides they don't like what SCO is doing, they stop funding, SCO goes under. So don't exonorate MS because they arent doing the suing here, they are still just as responsible.
yea, gravitron...and the most skilled people were able to stand perpendicular to the wall(i only ever saw this done by the ride operator). you had to be stoned to enjoy the full experience.

MythTV is the answer your looking for. LINK. It is a free, linux-based 'TiVo like' system with much more to offer, such as music jukebox, weather system, internet browser, dvd player, video game emulator, etc.
It has compatible for expandible tuners which allow you to record multiple shows at the time. You can also run one 'monster server' and then connect small set-top box type machines to various TV's in your house giving you one centralized location where everything can be stored.
You can buy 100 blank CD's at your local retail store for as low as $20. Thats 20 cents per CD(for all you people that can't do simple arithmetic).
So, if a disgustingly large company(like IBM) buys huge mass quantities at wholesale, approximitly how much are they paying per CD...1 cent, 1/2 cent...
I'm sorry, but if that IS the reason they are not shipping CD's with drivers, thats just sad!

Well, from MS's viewpoint, I think any money spent on killing Linux is an investment, just indirectly.
