I don't want to start a flame war, but I've been using Mozilla for a year (since 1.0), and with its popup blocking feature, I haven't seen one of those god-awful windows EVER.
Double-click wasted a lot of my time back when I was using IE. We all thought they would go bankrupt back in 2001, but they just kept surviving. Maybe this will break the bank and smother the dark side forever.
I agree. These games are based too much on ideals. They need to crowd a bunch of people in to large cities and allow crimes. Anybody else see Judge Dredd recently?:)
On the other hand, maybe I just shouldn't play these games. I found myself taking out the ladders on the pools and taking the doors away during a well-fueled fire on the original Sims. I think that if given the chance, people would form arson gangs. I hope they get a systran ebonics translator going by the time all this happens.
Back to Battlefield 1942, where killing is encouraged.
Parent post is modded Funny, but it's true. FTP is the timeless way to transfer files. You can even get graphical clients/servers for EVERY platform. If you need secure transfers, use SFTP protocol. It's trivial.
At LAN parties (Windows 9x,XP), we use Filezilla (link to sourceforge) for all of our file transfers.
There are clients and servers available for all platforms. In fact, if you're using OSX (you spoke of Macintosh), it has the standard *nix tools included in the install.
Don't make it harder than it has to be. Use FTP.
It is acceptable to use textbooks because the profs do not hold up the textbook in front of the class and read the subheadings and bullets to us. This was in my business and MIS classes.
In my CS classes, the teachers HAD PREPARED their own notes, and the textbook was just a reference (sometimes obscure).
As to my attitude, school becomes more and more expensive every year (it isn't inflation, it's lack of state funding in MN). Yet, we still just get powerpoint presentations for lectures. No wonder classrooms are being replaced by online courses.
Good:
Having the teacher give the give the lecture as a power point presentation with a LCD projector. The slides can then be published on the web for later consumption
I had too many business classes that were taught on PP Slides that were RIGHT FROM THE PUBLISHER. I mean...why even pay the professor when he is just an intermediary between us and the publisher.
Those classes were skipped whenever possible. All you had to do to get a 4.0 was to show up on review days and see which slides to study.
I hope that Christianity would not take away my freedoms. I am Christian, but this country was founded on separating that from the ruling government.
You definitely have something with going with the whole parenting thing. Parents need to step in before the government does. Yes, I'm part of the TV generation, but I was lucky enough to have been raised by my parents and not the TV.
It just goes to show that the conservativist attitude was not just that of the Taliban but of some of the residents too. We should take note of that when we "liberate" people.

There are more of those CS/MIS majors at my college than there are people who do it because they love what they do. Now, there are a bunch of greedy people who are looking for work:P. They had better like working for Primerica. God knows they call me at least once a week.
I just hope that the robot has enough memory for all of the huge run-time libraries, let alone the code itself. Aren't we up to 300k or so for a.NET hello world?
Yes. The point of my post was that most of us never see outside of Motorola/AMD/Intel because we only use desktop machines and don't think about what's running our microwaves.
I wonder if Google could recognize blogs in their search engine and provide the option (a checkbox) to include them in search results or not. There has to be some way to easily detect blogs.
I did an IT Tracker system for one of my MIS classes, and I instantly had hundreds of hits from people looking for the real open-source project.
I'm glad that the article author clarified just how important Intel is to the entire processor market.
Those of us who only use desktop machines have a hard time seeing past Intel/AMD/Motorola. Let's face it: the next processor decision I'm going to make is going to be whether I want to stick with AMD or go to Intel for my next gaming machine.
What was the ratio again...5000 Iraqi dead and 150 allied troops dead. I doubt that anybody would want to play as an Iraqi in multiplayer mode. Although, we win as Iraqis all the time in Battlefield 1942, Desert Combat:).
Did anyone else see that the disks will have IPv6 or IPv9 addresses. You could give every disk an IPv6 subnet and still be able to address every byte on the disk within that subnet.
I can only imagine the address space of IPv9!!! Anyone have the specs, or was that just humor?
Before you do something drastic, make sure that you stand above all of the unemployed people in your metro area. There are thousands of skilled IT workers here in the Twin Cities without work (partially due to our new gov. Pawlenty making the government more "efficient":-P).
A safer alternative would be to get interviews for similar positions at other companies and see what they will offer you. If you don't get offers from other companies, you had better stay where you are cause you're lucky to be working!!
Now, is this requirement because MT modifies its own template files, or is this because the actual blog entries are stored in text files?
I don't like any sort of content management system that requires me to change the underlying file permissions of my web server, especially since my blogs are on hosting providers with 80 other users sites.
Would it be too slow for these template preferences to be hashed into databases and then cached as session variables?
Having to change file system perms is like having to turn on register_globals in php.
Don't forget that the telco backbones are fiber optic..not the best media for power transmission. They're talking about using twisted pair.
I'm really surprised that they will try to do this, considering the voltage potential difference between buildings. I wonder if this will be limited to a small area. Even if confined to a small area, it will still be very effective. It would sure give somebody a reason to protect their network switches! I went to a college where the network switches got zapped at least once a year since they were not protected, and the building was a lightning magnet. This kind of thing used to fry a few network cards and would prove to be much more severe if power were carried over those twisted pair CAT-5 cables.

I graduated from Augsburg this year. We didn't get hit by the budget cuts as badly as the U, but we got hit.
Where did you graduate from?

I've seen .JAR files (Java) that worked on every platform. I think it was part of SourceForge's JEdit project.
I can tell that I'm a big nerd because I actually laughed at that. Thanks, toast!
Isn't that where the original Doom game was developed and tested?
Is that also the platform the source code was for when they GPL'd it?

God bless BitTorrent. 192 KB/s from a Slashdot link. I thought I'd never see this day!

I don't know about Dutch, but in German, plurals have the female gender, "die", and homosexual is usually referred to by the noun "Schwule" (der).
