I hear what you're saying. I've lived in Minneapolis-St Paul my whole life, and I visited my college girlfriend's parents for a week one time. I felt so insignificant. I don't know what it is, but I can't handle a 20 mile line of sight and a sea of stars at the same time.
This is a common misconception: that all Slashdot readers are l33ty Mc. l33ts. Some of us are real-world people who just like to get our nerd news.
As for the psycho ex-girlfriends...they show up in the access_log of my Apache server all the time.
Hopefully, they will have some sort of limitation where only the account holder of the phone can activate this service. I don't need any psycho ex-girlfriends knowing where I am at all times!!
I did an internship for a mainframe company in MN last summer, and we wrote software that emulated mainframes on PCs so that we would not have to check out CPU time on the real mainframes. As far as the running programs were concerned, they were running on mainframes.
These designs are all great, but I wouldn't wear them in public for fear of losing my life!! If I see someone here in MN wearing one, I'll be sure to go up and talk to them.
Ha...I just posted the exact same thing as you. I guess I'll have to type faster next time. Good to see there are other people who appreciate the classics.
I really haven't ever been a fan of the 2D games converted to 3D (basically, all of the sequels that came out for N64). We still play Bomberman 2 (SNES) and its clone at LAN parties. I don't think that 3D ports themselves sucked, but their gameplay was so much different than the originals that they lost their following. Bomberman 64, Zelda 64 (whichever ones), and Mario 64 are great, but they still aren't as fun as their SNES prequels.
A 2D version of a 3D game:.....I guess I haven't seen that before. With the slashdot effect, I guess I never will.
To counter the slashdot effect...we should seriously get some coders together and do a google cache kind of thing to prevent the slashdot effect. It wouldn't have to be mandatory. It could just be for sites that can't handle the traffic.
In other news: The MPAA was going to shut down sites that were hosting From Justin To Kelly. They decided not to shut them down when they realized that nobody was downloading the movie!
than the Desert Combat mod. Granted: the DC mod is a lot of fun, but it is way too easy for newbs to just be special ops. All of the DC weapons are way too accurate, making the machine guns as accurate as sniper rifles in the regular version. Also, anybody who can fly airplanes and helicopters owns whoever is on the ground in DC, which makes being ground forces rather useless.
The point to all of my rambling is that I hope that this mod attracts seasoned players and does not require one to fly in order to survive.
I watched a video about this in a Political Science class that I had to take. In the video, they showed places that used to be shipping piers that are now desert. The video also stated that 80% of the feeder rivers' water is lost due to evaporation in inefficient irrigation canals.

Duke Nukem Forever is never coming out. We'll just keep getting teaser screen shots until they switch the engine yet again. It has earned its Vaporware awards.
I know that you want to do this via TCP/IP, but wouldn't just having a switch save you nine monitors. It would take up less space and probably be cheaper.
I didn't know that PHP didn't scale well. Then again, I just use it for hobby sites.
How does Yahoo! use PHP? Do they generate static HTML snapshots or something?
The article was really short....what will PHP5 do to help scalability?
With the new clippy, you get your choice of Paulie Shore, Rosanne Arnold, Tom Arnold, or Gilbert Gottfried.
Gilbert: Hey...It looks like you're writing a letter /me bashes computer with keyboard.

It comes with a free "I'm with stupid" T-Shirt, but only in sizes XXL, XXXL, and XXXXL. They've found that making other sizes of those kind of shirts is unnecessary.
Hmmm...I'm starting to like our state's cutbacks with crazy investments like this.
Now, if I could get mail order brides over this modem....although...with 16 KB of RAM, I wouldn't get to see much of her before she arrived.
Yeah..I suppose: keep your friends close and your enemies even closer.
On the same topic. I hope that they don't come up with some new way to pop-up windows on my screen that Mozilla can't protect against without sacrificing functionality. Until then.....
I read this a while ago, and my favorite part was how he left game programming to finish his college degree. I mean...who needs a degree when you are so well known in the industry.
Next time you want to give away a PDA, call me! :)
BTW: They live on a farm on the South Dakoto/Minnesota border, past the middle of nowhere.

I don't know..there are way too many people who would beat us up there!!
There's a place to run for your life...Mall of America.
My favorite reference to these soviet russia sayings was on Fox's Family Guy:
In soviet Russia, car drives you!
In soviet Russia, road forks you!
These come from some real sayings from the cold war:
In America, you check out a book from the library. In Soviet Russia, the library checks you out.

Well, as long as it's still wet, there's no reason to panic.

Escape from LA is great because in the end he just ends up setting of the EMP anyway and just smoking a cigarette.

Who knows...we may even get Duke Nukem Forever before we get Doom III or HL 2. Oh, wait.....
