You're totally right about the good students being outnumbered by the stupid ones. As a recent graduate, I was bitter at the economy last year, but when I got a job and had to hire a few other people to work along side of me, I got to see the real problem: colleges are training shitty people who are only attracted to the field because of the money that there once was. I wish I had access to the resume (legally) I read where the guy said that he was a "Senor Sails Associate". Dear god.
I have a hopeless optimism that I will have an IT job because I truly love IT and work my ass off to always stay ahead of the ball. 3/4 of the people I graduated with are just looking for an easy job where they can make $60,000 a year ($19,000 more than the MN state average of $41,000) downloading windows patches to peoples' machines and surfing the web for 6 hours a day.
I think there will always be IT jobs for those who are willing to work for them. It just sucks to compete with hordes of imbeciles.
Amen to that. I compile stuff like apache and php to use special modules, but I don't have the patience for openoffice or some other large product. Downloading binaries rocks!
What I'm curious about is what the cost of this product will be if it ever materializes. There was no mention of cost in the article, but unless it's free, it will be a hard sell.
I have a tool for each part of the process. For design, I use FrontPage, for development AND design, I use Dreamweaver. For straight-up development, I use PHPEdit. Just use the right tool for the right job.
Hopefully, some nice person will setup a bittorrent tracker.
Pretty please?
I hate those download sites more than I hate the New York Times registrations.
Does anybody setup torrents anymore, or is that just a thing of the past? I noticed that peer guardian went nuts blocking hosts when I used bittorrent last time.
It took me 6 months to find my first job in programming, and I got that one through networking. I'd spend my next few years making friends in high places and doing internships if I were you. Sending out 1000 resumes doesn't mean shit.
Good luck.
The one thing that is pushing me to upgrade is Subversion. According to Subversion's website, you need a 2.X binary to run the Apache plugin. This may be the first really big push for 2.X.
I actually have the Mario Bros board game someplace at home. It was so bad that I didn't even like it when I was 6 years old. You couldn't even sell that thing at a garage sale. Maybe I'll just keep it until 2030 when some crazy fuck on EBay will buy it for $200 as a "classic".
My computer has a rating of about 12,000 for the following specs:
P4 HT 3.06 GHZ
1 GB RAM @ 800 MHZ FSB
ATI 9600 XT Graphics Card
Western Digital SATA 160 GB
I've seen computers with 15000 before, but they had Athlon FXs and/or Radeon 9800 Pro cards.

Did you see the demo? I'm curious why it's crap.
Hey. I just use it for HTML 4 table layout. The CSS stuff is done with Dreamweaver. Dreamweaver pisses me off when it comes to tables.

Did you take into account inflation and the time-value of money? If not, the people at the beginning of those 40 years got screwed!!

Na...I got a 2 as an intern.
What company do you work for? Unisys has a 1-5 ranking system on a bell curve.
I'm waiting for the native port. I hate the extra window manager.
From the ground. It's an unmanned aircraft?
How fast would that cross the horizon?
3.95 GPA and three internships.

It's sad when the coolest programming out there is outsourced.
It's too bad, but then again, upload bandwidth is very expensive.
Is that the automatic buffer overflow protection that Intel will be offering soon as well?

You pull out your BFG and instantly vaporize everybody else on the board. Game over.
Maybe I am. It's early, and I haven't had much coffee yet :)

I'm more of a cup and string kind of guy! ;)
