In the back of the manual for the NES cart of TMNT 2: The Arcade Game came with a coupon for a free personal pan pizza from Pizza Hut. The best advertising is the one with free and tasty merchandise.
I'm just curious, what games do you turn the music off? I can see it in sports games, tactical games, and some first-person shooters (so you can hear bad guys coming). I know in sports games, I turn off commentary all the time (the announcers only have so many lines before repetition annoys you).
I kind of agree with you. Personally, I think graphics shouldn't be compared with music. It should be compared with sounds. Music is how sounds are put together. Camera(virtual)/Direction is how graphics are put together.
I know that there are several games out there that will stick out in my memory, not for how impressive the graphics were, but how they were used.
There are quite a few games that, by todays standards, have dated graphics but still evoke some sort of emotion from me. Half-life's head crabs jumping at you in the vents or soldiers shooting holes in the vent towards you. System Shock 2, in the room where you first see Shodan scared the crap out of me. The awesome camera work in Vagrant Story. Even the 2D sprite work in some of Square's older games were pretty awesome.
To me, fog, curves, bumpmaps, shadows, lights, reflections, etc. aren't very memorable at all. The way they are used is.
Mmmm... FF6 yuminess. Kefka's was memorable but the Celes opera scene had some really impressive music. You can almost hear her singing. Very cool. The most memorable music piece I can think of was Schala's theme from Crono Trigger (although pretty much the entire game had awesome music). Another game with excellent music is Secret of Mana. Square has always impressed me with their music. Heck, even the generic FF theme is pretty good and memorable.
Considering it had "Symphony" in it's title, you would think Castlevania: Symphony of the Night would have really good music. Guess what? You'd be right. If I were in a castle full of beasties trying to chomp my butt, that would definitely be the music I want to kick arse to.
I guess one of the other big movie trailers that intrigued me the most was for Sky Captain and the World of Tomorrow. It was also attached to LOTR:ROTK. The setting looks awesome. Giant flying robots, WWII era fighter planes, flappy, mechanical bird thingies, Angelina Jolie as One-Eyed Willie and Zepplins. The robots look almost like they're out of the Iron Giant or maybe even Miyazaki's Laputa.
You make good points but the previous commented stated "one of the most powerful characters in Middle-Earth" which is correct in a way. The Valar separated themselves from Middle Earth after the fall of Numenor. That's also why the formation of the Last Alliance with Gil Galad and Elendil had no help from the West. Also, Gandalf stated that they could not send the Ring from Middle Earth into the West because it is a thing of Middle Earth and they would not accept it.
You're probably correct in stating that Bombadil is totally uber and he probably is the most powerful character in Middle Earth at that time (At least based on the LOTR Trilogy books).
Other obvious events that showed the power of the Ring:
The Ring drew the Nazgul to it.
The Ring caused the Council to argue and fight until Frodo spoke up.
The Ring corrupted Boromor without him ever touching it.
Saruman's research into the Rings of Power and his desire for the One ultimately corrupted him. Granted the Palantir didn't help any but by then he was already on his way down.
Even Gandalf said that if the Ring were to buried under Minis Tirith not used, it would corrupt Gondor and the Ring would burn itself in the mind of Denethor and drive him mad.
Just thinking of the Ring brings its corruptive powers into play. Carrying it around on a stick is about effective as carrying it on a chain.
Just because Clark Kent can't endanger Lois Lane by being with her...
From Mallrats:
It's impossible, Lois could never have Superman's baby. Do you think her fallopian tubes could handle the sperm? I guarantee you he blows a load like a shotgun right through her back. What about her womb? Do you think it's strong enough to carry her child? ...
He's an alien, for Christ sake. His Kyrptonian biological makeup is enhanced by earth's yellow sun. If Lois gets a tan the kid could kick right through her stomach. Only someone like Wonder Woman has a strong enough uterus to carry his kid. The only way he could bang regular chicks is with a kryptonite condom. That would kill him!
The monster was kind of like an Agent from the Matrix. Even though it was "all powerful" and supposedly impossible to kill, it was still bound by the laws of system. Same as an Agent. Instead of running away from it, some users decided to go all "Neo" on it and take it down. Not bad.
DQ/DW 4 was arguably one of the best RPGs for the Famicom/NES. The storyline was divided into different chapters and was top notch. Not only did you take the role of the hero but you actually got to see the view points of the supporting characters and why they joined your quest. Even better, you get a glimpse of the reasoning behind the main bad guy's motivations through dream sequences and discover that he wasn't totally evil. They did release a remake for Playstation in Japan using the engine behind DQ/DW 7 but it was never released to the US.
It's kind of funny because the Japanese Government actually passed a law that required DQ to be released on either Sundays or holidays because so many people skipped out on their jobs and school to purchase it.

Ahhh... but lets say you combine the two. How about a flash mob of ipod users swapping music for thirty seconds in the middle of town and then walking away.
DOAX is a dating sim. Granted, you never get any play but you do get see women frolic in the sand.
I mean, come on, you have to find out what the characters likes and dislikes are to keep them as a teammate. Then you have to go out with them to keep them happy, or try impress them with your vball skills. Then other characters come along and try to woo you away. That's not volleyball, that's dating. My friend's wife is addicted to the game.
Babbages, FuncoLand and Gamestop offer a gamestop member card for $10. It offers 10% off any used games for 10 months and gives you a 10 month subscription to Game Informer. The mag sucks but the discount is worth it. I buy all my games used now.
Just the other day I picked up Ico used for about $13. That game is awesome by the way. One of the best games I've played in a long time.
When it comes to newer games, I wait about 2 weeks and they are already on the shelf as used with $5-$10 off. Then I use my card and get an additional %10 off that. You make up your $10 real fast.
Well, then it's about time they brought a pirate back (I never did play that one). Really though, the pirate was in reference to the magazine's mascot in the corner of the picture. I don't really think they're going to have a pirate. Sigh...
Maybe violence would work?
Isn't that the "Great Barrier" which leads to "Sha Ka Rhee"?

Looks like it's time to upgrade from my abacus.

The best thing about Mario being pixel art was it made it easier to shape the blocks in the underground levels into his face.

Let's just hope that MGS: Twin Snakes doesn't turn out like other "revisioned" things. Such as Star Wars 4, 5, and 6... "Special Editions".

Oh come on, everyone knows that Britney's Dance Beat has the best soundtrack ever!!!</sarcasm>

Third section down under "How popular is the Dragon Quest series".

They're really useful in casino vault robberies and hooking up with Julia Roberts.
FFVII to be ported to my console...

Whoops... Xylinx is actually spelled Xilinx.
