For me, I use the same method for getting information on Windows and Linux. For example, if I need some info on Windows, I first check the help files, then the MS Knowledge Base, and then resort to a gooogle research if I don't get a satisfactory answer. For Linux, I first check the man pages and README files, then the usual how-to sites, and then move on to the google search.
I grew up using Windows so it's natural that I'm more proficient with Windows than Linux and thus, Linux skills have some major catching up to do. I'm currently at a point where I'm comfortable using Slackware (one of more difficult Linux distro to use, especially for someone who's used to doing everything via GUI way) as a workstation.
You really can't learn anything by giving up when you hit a wall. Whatever problem you may have, there are many others who have experienced the same problem and came up with a solution for it. For example, I learned that you can indeed use the 5-button + wheel MS IntelliMouse Explorer and have all of those buttons work on Slackware. It wasn't quite easy as plug and play but after some vigilant searching, I found a solution for it.
Besides, it never hurts to be proficient with multiple OSes.
This is the reason why you shouldn't learn about politics from the movies or TV. While I like Moore's movies because I find them to be thought provoking, the problem is that his facts are extremly one-sided.
Unless a bill is higly controversial, it's pretty much guaranteed to pass once it makes it past appropriate committees, because even though they hate to admit it, the both parties negotiate those things behind the scenes (e.i. I'll pass your bill if you pass mine). In that case, reading of the bill on the floor is merely for following the formal procedure as the vote's already been decided.
True, but I can't really picture pure communism because I don't think that it's possible due to the human nature. And with some having big egos in the open source community, I feel that there are people who avocate FOSS for their personal glory instead of for the benefit of everyone.
As for Economical idealogies, it fits way more with communistic than with capitalism.
I disagree with that notion because you don't have to pay for and/or use open source software if you don't want to. If MS has it's way, everyone will be required to pay MS tax (it's already done in a way via computers coming with OEM licenses) and in return, every household gets to run a copy of windows and office, and they'll also receive a portrait of Bill Gates that they have to hang on their wall. To me, this sounds more like communism.
You can say that again. A really surprising move from a conservative government.
How can you call the California government a conservative government? Just because Arnold is a republican? He's probably more liberal than some of the southern democrats.
The problem is that most slashdotters have some bias. I honestly believe that there are people here that write down the names of other slashdotters that they dislike, and mod them down as soon as they gain some mod points.
I can't really blame Slashdot this because it is owned by OSTG and some bias is expected. In fact, I don't believe that there is a such thing as a totally unbiased board, group, media, etc...
Geek skills can be learned, business speak and marketing wonkedness (yep, just made that up) cannot be learned because they are unrelated to the actual "Business" and "Marketing" techniques that work.
I know many successful small business owners (and don't forget that many of mega-corps started out as small businesses) who have great "Business" and "Marketing" techniques without college degrees. Granted, most of the skills I use at work were on my own but the college experience has nevertheless valuable because I was "forced" to take certain classes degree requirements that turned out to be useful later, and it was also a good opportunity to network and socialize.
But anways, I guess moderators are mostly republican. (So if I get modded down you'll know why.)
Maybe we will even out in a few days, but the article will be off the front page and everyone will think i'm right.
So you are saying that you got modded down because most of the mods are republicans, yet you also stated that you'll end up with more points in the end. Aren't you contradicting yourself? Beside, if you need more points for some reason, just make a "Linux rocks, Windows sucks" post.
MS was aware of that problem and did put out a guide titled "Deploying Windows Firewall Settings for MS Windows XP with Service Pack 2". One option for the computers connected in a Windows domain setup is to implement a group policy to disable or modify the new firewall settings across the domain.
I think that the government is a mere reflection of its citizens because it's pretty sad when someone makes a movie about eating at McDonalds and getting fat and the people rave about it.
If he named it something like FalwellSucks.com, he might have gotten away with it. This is just like those annouing annoying ad sites that has similar spelling with more popular sites.
I would ask "Why is it that the U.S. government failed to recognize Al-Queda's position on US military intervention in the Middle East?"The problem is that no matter what the answer is, there always will be US military intervention in the Middle East as long as the oil plays an important role in the economy, no matter which party is in power. Don't forget that cheap oil also benefits the Americans in general as it drives their thirst for the gas guzzling SUVs.
There's way too much conflict of interest going on between corporate America, the militaro-industrial complex, the Saudis and the Bush administration...
This is the reason why you shouldn't rely on TV and movies alone to learn about politics.
Do you really believe that Kerry, if elected, will cut the Saudis off and risk losing their lobbying power in OPEC? Bush is kissing the Saudis' ass to in hopes of getting lower oil prices, which tends to help the economy and Kerry will be no different.
The corporation is a tool to avoid liability, otherwise unavailable to mere humans, unless they incorporate.
If you are such an expert on corporations, you should know that corporations offer LIMITED liability, not a complete avoidance of it. And here in Colorado, it's cheaper to incorporate than to buy a copy of Doom 3, so why don't mere humans incorporate to gain that "awsome" power?
BTW, you still haven't answered my question on why people commit fraud just don't incorporate and commit fraud through the corporation to avoid jail time.
Do you honestly believe that a small business owner who happen to incorporate has same protection with a CEO or a mega-corp with an army of lawyers and funds to settle?
You really should try forming a corporation youself. You'll learn that there's a lot of things that you cannot get away with. Otherwise, all those fraudsters would just incorporate and committ fraud through the corporation and get away with it.
Just as mentioned before, it's not about corporations, but about how much of a lawyer you can afford.
I believe that's how USAA was formed. Actually, that may not be a such a bad idea, since no one can match the USAA's rates. Only problem that I see is trying to organize a inital membership and complying with various regulations throughout the states.
As far a I know, MySQL is also offered with GPL licensing.
The MySQL database server is available under the MySQL AB "dual licensing" model. Under this model, users may choose to use MySQL products under the free software/open source GNU General Public License (commonly known as the "GPL") or under a commercial license.
I constantly look around my office to see what objects will make a good weapon incase the portal to hell opens up at my work.

If you are going to go ahead with that project, I'd like to volunteer my ex-roommate.

It better allows you to do a one handed web surfing... for educational purposes, of course.
Only 3 buttons? Ha! Me, my G4 and my 5-button MS intelli-rodent spit on your measly 3 buttons!
:)
My 7 button MS Wireless intelli-rodent can beat up your 5-button MS intelli-rodent!

I agree. Beside, maybe this will prompt MS to sell their software to Wal*Mart at a cut rate prices to encourge Wal*Mart to carry more MS software.
Sorry, here's the link for the moive Super Size Me. The government DID NOT make this movie.

Ok, I misread your original post. But you do have an excellent point here.
