    M$ bought the rights to use UNIX IP from SCO which is owned (the IP not SCO) by Novell.

    I do believe that even computers with "things" that don't need to be protected at all should be protected as they can be used a zombies to attack other computers. Why do you think that most DDOS attacks come from the unprotected Windows machines?

    Sometimes putting on the latest service pack is not an option, (esp. on Microsoft products) as it can break the server.

    Take the Slammer worm for the SQL server for example. If Microsoft staff is lax in applying patches to their own products, do you expect most users to do any better? Firewalls and IDSes do not have to be a $10,000 band-aid. You can use open source and freeware products for a low or no cost solution.

    Enron collapes may have come about a year later the tech stock but the lies that brought it down happened way before, just as Qwest's overstatement of it's learnings started before 2000. As far as stocks goes, you should realize that many investors are easily swayed by FUD. If company A goes backrupt, investors sell off stocks from company B just because that company may be in the same field as company A. And during the Gulf War II, the stock market was like a seesaw because investors were buying and selling based on FUD instead of something more rational like earnings report. That's why I believe that no matter who won the election, there would've been mass sell offs.

    Oh wow, and I thought the crash came because people realized that the stocks they were holding were useless. So are you saying that Enron was honest and those dot coms were making real profits and some how Bush gaining Gore magically made them disappear? Your argument is like saying that during the snow storm, people drive more carefully and there are also more accidents, so therefore, driving more carefully causes more accidents.

    I'm no fan of Bush but at least use logic on your arguments. Even if Gore had won, there's no way he couldn've kept the bubble from bursting.

    is, believe it or not, handling of rebates with turn around time of less than 3 weeks. As for the rest, I had about 50% chance of getting a rebate check, with average length being over 2 months.

    There was a time when MS was not interested in the Internet. But after thier strategists realized the marketing value of the Internet, they decided to go after it. Perhapes by justing licensing the codec, MS is opening its eyes to the potental of Linux without admitting it.

    True, I wouldn't mind the money but you can usually tell who's in the IT field for the money or for their interest in technology. My current boss did not have formal education on IT but he's quite knowledgable due to computers being his hobby. My former boss was just into for the money and he was pretty usless.

    Employees did not show an ounce of loyalty to their employers during the boom so why should the employers show loyalty to the employees during the recession? Many overpaid and incompetent IT works jumped shop as soon as they got a higher offer from some other company. Those people are the ones who ruined everything for the rest of us.

    Here's the update.

    1. Turkey confirmed that they did not send troops into northern Iraq.
    2. Kurds stated that they will not fight for idependence to clam Turkey down but they are willing to fight to get rid of Saddam.

    Don't you read the news? Kurds are begging the U.S. to allow them to start fighting against the Iraqi troops. They are even willing to be placed under the control of U.S. military command.

    So maybe Germany should ban Tetris because constant playing of Tetris could eventually become a replacement behavior for learning how to build real walls, buildings, etc.
