I guess you guys didn't read the extra fine print. It says that the user must... 1. Use a hardware firewall with both incoming and outgoing ports blocks.

    2. Use Mozilla instead of IE and Outlook Express.

    3. Have two anti-virus programs that checks for updates every five minutes.

    4. Sanitize all floppy disks with magnets before use.

    5. Check for and download Windows updates daily, unless the updates undoes the previous fix (e.g. Slammer) or breaks the Windows. Consumers should buy a second system and a second copy of Windows.

    6. Leave the system off. If you must use your computer, try your local library computer lab. If you must use your home computer, turn it on just long enough to do your business and turn it off when finished. Note that acorrding to EULA, by merely turning on the system, you are acting against the recommandation of MS and therefore, MS is not liable for any damages.

    7. Upgrade to the new version of Windows as soon as it is released. Delete your old partition and do a clean install as the new and improved Windows magically wipes away your past problems.

    8. If you get hacked with the latest version of Windows, that probably means that you are a pirate.

    9. If you are not a pirate, that means that you must have violated one of the clauses above and MS shall not be held liable.

    10. If you followed all the clauses above, by EULA, you must submit the problem to us, so that we can put a clause excluding your error in the future EULA (to be installed with the next patch) so that MS MS shall not be held liable. If you do not submit your error, you are in violation of EULA and MS shall not be held liable.

In OOP, child classes inherits the characteristics of its parent class. They call this inheritance, not "a viral infection that attaches the characteristics of the parent class to all of its child classes". Steve had a harsher word for open source program (it was cancer). MS chose to use words with negative connotations when describing open source products since they goal is to discourage you from switching.

I do agree with you on the OEM part. Most people just buy computers and use whatever that comes with it. Linux will have a hard time gaining on the desktop market (for home users) unless more OEMs ship with Linux desktops.

I built a system with a bunch of used parts for my friend who lived about 300 miles away from me. I fully tested the system and shipped it via UPS ground. He called me to tell me that the computer starts up but there's no display. I told him to open up the case and make sure that the video card is sitted tight as UPS handles their packages rather roughly (I used to work for UPS) and the card may have unseated itself. He calls back later and told me that he followed my instructions but it still didn't work. At that point, I told him to just ship the computer back to me. After I received it, I opened up the case, and surely enough, the video card was loose. I poped it back in and the computer worked flawlessly.

I agree that Unions can be good but just like any tools, it can be used for good or evil. On a bad economy like this, unions have to make compromises or everyone loses (i.e. businesses going bankrupt and people getting laid off). I had some friends who are union members and also worked for Lucent that were laid off recently. Doing the boom, they enjoyed high wages but it came back and bit them hard.

  24. Re:Talk about blaming the victim! on U.S. Jobs Jumping Ship · · Score: 1

The main goal of for-profit businesses are to make profit. Union members think that businesses exist to provide jobsl I used to work for UPS and despite it being a union job, they only paid $8 and hour for package handlers. Not only that, I had to pay the inital fee and regular dues to the union. FedEx's un-union packer handler job started at $12 at that time. So Union does not always = higher pay.

Many Union members out there have a notion that companies have unlimited money. Guess what? United Airlines filed for Bankruptcy (CH 11). Not only that move made their stock worthless (majority of it were owned by the employees), but now they have the bankruptcy judge's belessing to cut costs, including wages. There's nothing that the union can do about that. If the employees disagree with the wage cuts, they can always look for jobs elsewhere but I doubt it as the whole airline industry is suffering at this point.
