  1. Re:2011? on The Dutch Kill Analog TV Nationwide · · Score: 1

It was only "pushed" back because there was a stipulation in the original agreement that required 85% of tvs to be capable of the digital broadcast. Since you could argue that it wasn't reached (through tvs people owned and didn't use amongst other reasons) they pushed the date back... This time though, the date is mandatory, without the 85% stipulation.

It would take a ton of money to push the date back again, and that would more then likely not be worth the effort for the some-odd 20% of people that use broadcast tv in the U.S.

If you're worried about coercion, you just make the system allow for the reporting of false information.
You log in, you setup an account that has an id associated with it, you vote. You can then verify you voted the way you want.

Need to convince someone you voted in a particular fashion? The system allows you to set up another id that is associated with your account, you fill in your vote the way you want to... it produces a report that shows you voted that way when you log in with that id.

No mechanisms for figuring out how many ids are associated with an account (besides those who have the data itself), no mechanism for verifying that someone gave you the id that was actually used in the final counts.

What use is coercion when the people you try to coerce have the ability to make it appear they did what you want?

What's a commercial? Why do the big race politicians spend millions of dollars (They sure aren't doing it to get their "message" out)?

You gotta be kidding me if you think they aren't already buying votes.

Let them attempt to buy elections, make it illegal, put out "honeypots", catch the rats and disqualify them from the race! Even if they could directly buy votes, think of how much money you'd need to spend just to sway an election... and there's no way you could do that without getting caught.

I sure hope someone's vote is worth more then a buck. Personally I wouldn't sell mine for less then a grand. Go ahead, buy the indigent! Hell, at least they'd actually improve their meals for a day, which is the best thing those politicians will ever do for them anyways... How sad is that?

I have no idea who I voted for in any election. I know who I thought I voted for, but I have no idea if it was counted that way. Where can I go to find that out? Let's say there is some way for me to determine if my vote was counted in a certain way. What about everyone else? Is there a way to make sure the vote they think was mine was exclusively mine?

I'd rather have the problems associated with receipts with ids on them that I can log online to see who I voted for instead of the current system.

A huge problem with this is that many hardware manufacturers still don't release enough information to make good drivers for them. It's incredibly difficult to get someone like NVidia on board to release open source drivers, and then you have the smaller hardware manufacturers like Fine Point Innovations who don't even attempt to release drivers for the *nix world (Tablet PC drivers ex. Gateway M280E display).

To me, I don't mind having to download a Hardware specific driver and taint my kernel by using it, I just want my hardware to work... but that is not as easy as it sounds, and for the reason listed above.

It's a vicious circle, we need drivers for the hardware to increase market share. Hardware manufacturer's don't care because there's not enough market share. If the hardware manufacturers would just pony up, we'd be in business! After that, we just need software manufacturers to spend more time tailoring their product for *nix, because they finally have the hardware support they needed to get things done!

Oh if only it were so simple :(

What better way to launch a game than to provide a bonus in it for their other product that has 7 million+ people (that is being tailored to a more casual player) with investments in. What do you expect when those casuals find that they have to become a "hardcore" buyer of cards in order to get anything out of it? It's a big turn off. I bought a few packs on launch day to see if it was worth it, and it's not. I'll stick to my MtG and if for some reason I really need to have that turtle mount or whatever, I'll buy it off ebay in a few months when they go for 20 bucks a piece. The game itself is tailored for a huge investment, and half of the available playability of the game revolves around expansions that haven't been released yet. With Magic the Gathering, you can go out and buy a starter deck that will give you many more hours of playability and enjoyment then this wasteful card game. Seriously, if you want the collectibles for the mmorpg, buy them off ebay.

You could buy yourself a very well geared character on ebay for less than the amount you'd need to spend to acquire just that trinket the spews off a particle effect... Ooooh, wow, shiny!

I Played Magic: The Gathering, and it was a fun game. I could see myself playing the card game of Warcraft, because as I bought cards there would be some other incentive, but currently, there is no incentive. I'm not going to be buying 3 grand worth of cards to get some novelty items. The other prizes in the card game are on scratch off cards, and those are the "rare" items that not everyone gets. Since those are really the only actual prizes you can win, you might as well just buy them off ebay if you really want them, because it will be a helluvalot cheaper.
