It really depends on the research application being used over the NLR. In the example used in the article, the collider will require continuous transfer while other uses would be just as easily served sending in chunks. As for processing power, many research projects on the NLR will take advantage of grid computing to get their numbers crunched and data stored.
I don't know, I think there is truth in what the OP said. I am fortunate enough to not need food stamps, but I am not wealthy either. Several times I have been at the grocery store with my 5 pounds of dried beans (real cheap that way) and have seen the guy in front of me buy 10 pounds of T-bone steak on food stamps and I have thought to myself "Gee, I wish I was just a little poorer so I could afford steak." Something is broken with the system when people on food stamps can do much better off than those just a little wealthier.
Maybe this guy does just need a little education to realize that those steaks aren't gonna carry him through the month, where my 5 pounds of beans will last me much longer.
but I only got about 600 lines because the forums suffer the Wintel design disease of requiring you to click for each new text contribution and I get bored easily.
Hell, I'm a guy and I don't play most online games anymore because of the childish smack talk that is almost nonstop in many of these games. These people are just ruining games for everyone, not only women.
What happens to the poor sap whose machine gets hacked by the latest M$ security hole and gets set up as a spam bot?
If spammers have to pay to send spam, they'll just find someone else to do it for them.
The books give the story much more depth than the movies could ever accomplish. And although I love the movies and the way they have been done, I will admit that it is watered down compared to the books themselves. But the movies had to be watered down in order to reach a greater audience than fantasy geeks like me. If you are really interested in why people think this story is so great, then read the books.
I noticed this difference between the book and the movies because of my wife who had not read the books. She too enjoyed the movies and has since read the books. I remember her asking me about why the ring was so important. Yeah, she knew it was evil and powerful and stuff, but the movie didn't convey how it corrupted the mind and heart of the person that wore it. It told you flat out that it did, but since you don't get to know the hobbits as well and Frodo especially, you don't know how tragic it is that Frodo's spirit is being consumed by the evil of the ring. I didn't consider this much because I had read the books and I knew what was going on, but the average (American) viewer would need this information spoon feed to them.
I guess the point I am trying to make is that the books tell a much greater story than the movies could ever accomplish. So go read the books already!
You don't have to buy the extended version of this movie if you are a purist. They released the 2 disk set not too long ago. For those that like all the extra stuff, they can get the 4 disk set. Something for everyone, eh?
Why do I keep hearing this crap about hardware being "outdated" in 6 months?
I bought an Thunderbird 1.4Ghz machine with a GeForce 2 about 3 years ago and the only upgrade I made since then was buying a Geforce 3 about 18 months ago and my machine still runs all the latest games just fine. The only reason I bought the GF3 was to replace the Voodoo 2 card in my wife's computer so she could play Warcraft 3. Both of us are running 2-3 year old computers and still have nothing to complain about. So who cares if your computer doesn't have the newest whiz-bang video card, buy one that is 1 or 2 generations old for $200 (US) bucks less and play your favorite games anyway.
as long as neither company messes up the great work they are already doing individually. I would love it if my favorite game maker and my favorite model kit producer came together.
Unfortunately, most companies follow the EE laws out of fear of lawsuits, not because they believe in their value to society. Since EE doesn't cover discrimination against where a person previously worked, that's open game for most employers who would care about such things.
Here ya go. Now be gentle people, this site is not on the magic 10Gb/s pipe.

There goes the neighborhood.
do you think it'll be until someone orginizes a DDOS attack with thousands of these?
He intends to take it to the bank, along with everything he does.

Does this mean that Unix users have ADD?
What would really be great is an Internet Cook Book Database. Set up to model after IMDB of course.

The leak probably came from a bug in the code itself.

I don't have any guesses, but it will happen in about that order. AOL is slightly more pervasive that lawyers.
