Yeah, that is true. But it was a known feature, stuff we have seen before. Silicon Knights is a great developer, but I haven't seen the innovation displayed in Eternal Darkness in the new Metal Gear game, and I don't really expect to. Still, if you haven't played Metal Gear on the PS1 or the PC, it is well worth picking up for the Gamecube.

Personally, I love the look of Wind Waker. It is the only game I have seen where I would consider pausing the game, printing the screen, and then procede to frame it and hang it on my wall. That game was as much fun to watch as it was to play. I do agree that a darker Zelda would be cool, that would not have to preclude cell shading, it would just require a different style of cel shading. There is plenty of anime that is dark and cell shaded. I know this doesn't really have much to do with your post, but what the hell...

My understanding is that they didn't do anything to change the game from the original PS1 version other than clean up the graphics, and make the cut scenes a little more dynamic and flashier. From the little bit of it I have played, this seems to be the case. So I don't think their past performance should really factor in when deciding whehter or not to purchase this game. Look to the original developers of the PS1 version for that.

  4. The Toys R Us game cage effect. on Life After the Video Game Crash · · Score: 2, Insightful

When I was 12 years old, I was able to buy about 2 games per year. One I usually got for Christmas, and maybe I picked up one or two more saving my allowance and birthday money. You also had to make damn sure you got a good game when you were able to get one. And often times we only had Nintendo Power Propaganda and word of mouth to go on, so there were inevitable disappointments.

But I had a dream. I dreamt that one day I would be able to walk into Toy's R Us, and gaze upon that long aisle of games and gaming systems, and buy any damn thing I wanted. I would pull a hundred tickets if need be, walk them to the "game cage" and buy a whole damned system, even if there was only one game I wanted for it. I am sure many of the other gamers who cut their teeth on Pitfall Harry had a similar dream.

Then guess what happened. Time passed, we got jobs. Many of us went into Computers because of our experience with computer games. Many of us were employed during the boom, making good money, and not yet caring enough to be ultra-conservative with it. So what did we do? We lived the dream. We bought Voodoo 2 cards so we couldn't see pixels in the walls in Quake, we bought N64s becasue Waverace had cool water, we bought PS1's because Twisted Metal was evil as hell. We got used to gaming on the couch and upgraded to Xboxs and Ps2's. I completed my dream when I walked into Traget and bought a cute little gamecube just because I wanted to play Zelda on it. I know many of you did too.

After "living the dream" for a while my inner 12 year old self has caught up to my calender age. I am starting to consider "Will I be interested in this game long enough to finish it? Will I have time? Maybe I will rent it. Maybe reading a review is enough". I am sensing that the "living the dream" is coming to an end, in myself and in others.

I wonder what effect "the dream" had on gaming sales in the 97-02 era. I wonder what effect no longer living "the dream" will have in the 04-08 era. Are there children today dreaming about walking into a gamestop and saying "gimme one of everything"?

So WMDs will last as long as they were maintained. OK, good to know. As far as removing other murderous dictators, if Bush did that you would call him a tyrant, murderer, imperialist, etc. So what exactly do you want? Remove them, or leave them?

Maybe he was retarded, but captured senior Iraqi officers said Saddam dismissed the invasion even as it was underway. Do some research. If he thought this was the end game, why was he still in Iraq? The guy has millions of dollars, why not run? The borders are not secure, if Al Queda can get in and out?

"Saddam gave the families of all those who die in the Israeli/Palestinian war money. I don't see how is that rewarding terrorist acts.

This is the dumbest comment I have ever seen. Take your goddamned head out of your ass. He gave money to the families of SUICIDE BOMBERS. HE ENCOURAGED NAD REWARDED SUICIDE BOMBING OF CIVILLIANS. Do you think any Israeli families got any of that money? If you don't see how this rewards terrorist acts, you must have a mental deficiency.

Unless your Iraqi family members were Baathists, they didn't have much of a country before the invasion. If they were Baathists, I won't have much sympathy for them.

Antagonizing terrorists into open combat is a cowardly act? But subsidizing suicide bombing is honorable? You really aren't worth even arguing with.
