    The C-5 coffee pot that cost so much was becuase they needed a coffee pot that would work at altitude with the cabin de-pressed and doors open with hurricane force winds ripping around.


    Please believe me when I say that I love my coffee, but in the above situation, I think coffee would be one of the last things on my mind... or was it a coffee pot that could survive the above with out leaking and spraying hot liquid all over the place?

    I found very little over priced things that our unit purchased when I was active, course most of our budget was spent on fuel and ammo for the tanks. The only coffee maker we had was my little heat based espresso maker that we'd set on the exaust grill for a brew in about 30 seconds. Your experience might of varied.

    Everyone (incorrectly) believes DOS == bad, no mouse == bad.

    Maybe not everyone! I grew up beliving that mice belonged in cages, windows belonged in walls and menus were for restraunts.

    Up until I found a decient emulator, My C64 was still in service until a few years ago (awsome games). I still play M.U.L.E. On the NES emulator from time to time too.

    I would think that leaving number 3 unsolved would help take care of potential problem number 2 and most likley problem number 1.

    Maybe It's just me, but the smell of a porta john puts sex just about as far away from my mind as possible.

    If all you have protecting you from sending ammo clips through the mail is a minimum wage postal clerk, then you have the country you deserve... :)

    I really don't feel the need to be protected from people sending ammo clips through the mail. Sorry that you do feel that need.

    I'll let the government worry about defending the Constution and I'll worry about my house and family from those big nasty ammo clip senders. About the biggest worry I have is keeping the government from trying to protect me from too many things.

    Looks like we don't see eye to eye on this, and that's ok. You live there, I live here and you know that we'll still be here if you ever need us.

    Actually, the worst thing about being in LA is that there are no indoor gun ranges within the city limits that I know of, with the exception of the police ranges, and the LAX range, which is getting run down and rather unsavory. No place to shoot means no place to practice. :(

    And here I thought all of LA was pretty much a shooting range. Guess you can't believe everything you read these days. Oh well, at least it's not Boulder, CO.

    Why would the typical user want to deal with this trouble just "to have fiber" when the same channels can be delivered with good ol' (cheap) coax?

    I'd be willing to forgo cable tv all together for fiber to my house. And to keep it... I'd be willing to hook up the entire neighborhood's converters for them for free!

    Possible bennifits for this? VPN from home to work or VPN from home to school. You could reduce the lab size on campus.

    Just MHO.

    Sure, it would be nice to see AOL opening the IM protocol

    AIM protocal isn't open? Might as well be, since every multi-client chat program uses it. Heck, even my misterhouse (www.misterhouse.net) home automation controller uses it. Kinda neat that I can IM my house to turn the porch light on, or make coffee. Kinda sad is that's one of the hightlights of my day.

    I've kept my AOL around. Lots of reasons I guess, most of the other users make me feel smart, most of the college hotties in town use it, too lazy to change my email on the legit subscriptions I have, makes a nice spam catcher so I can protect my other email, but mostly it's the college hotties use it.

    AOL has come a LONG way since I started using it (AOL 2.0 for DOS). Thanks for the tip on the new build, I've been in the BETA group since, um... seems like forever... but I didn't know Blue Hawaii was a new build and probably never would of checked it.

    Did I mention that college hotties use it?

    Is this a "Case Mod" for the car? Looks more like it's a piece by piece disassembly of the car. No modding, no computer, no linux, bah - who needs it?

    Now, putting wheels on your case along with some charged up beefy batteries, wireless network to control the steering - now that's the kind of "case mod for a car" that I could build a beowolf cluster of and it *would* run linux. Hmmmm...

    I'm kind of suprised that Verizon is fighting this one. I switched a little over a year ago after telling T-Mobile that if they were not going to uphold thier end of the contract [provide service], that I considered it null and void and would they please feel free to turn off the phone ASAP [they didn't like this btw, we're both writing letters back and forth - they say collections, I say possible lawsuit for lack of disclosure in contract, failure to provide services promised, etc. It's been amusing to say the least]

    Verizon has provided me with far superior call quality and pricing... so I'm kind a at a loss why getting getting more business is a Bad Thing (tm).

    When I switched, I called all my friends (yes, both of them) and just gave them the new number. My cell phone has now replaced my land line and I can't really see going back anytime soon.

    Stealing is such a strong word, can't we say I can borrow it from time to time? Seriously, I was really joking about it - I haven't used a drop of their connection and if I could track down the house I would probably tell them, but it's just "somewhere" on my street.

    I'd offer to go half with them, but I use a LOT of my bandwidth between my RAS account to work and my pr0n addiction. It really wouldn't be fair to them - now if I can find someone to would be willing to pay, maybe 25% of my connection for 25% of my bandwidth, that might work out ok.

    Kind of makes me wonder how many people got a free connection when I was open to the world.

    I agree, that's it a little alarmist, however, it kind of sickens me that spammers are now looking for WiFi WAPs to hijack to spam. I ran my wireless open for a couple of weeks, simply because I *KNEW* that none of my neighbors knew a thing about wireless and it's a pretty small neighborhood.

    HOWEVER - When I decided to mimic the SSID and WEP settings that we use @ work so I could stop switching them on my PocketPc - I suddinly poped up on my neighbors wireless, since they were broadcasting their SSID. OOPS on my part. I've thought several times about telling them, but money is kind of tight and if I loose my broadband, well, I'm sure they wouldn't mind sharing a little now and then. I wonder if I can bridge via my laptop and move the WHOLE domain over... Hmmmm....

    The thought of someone driving up and down my neighborhood looking to break in and spam me with my own connection almost brings me to tears. Heaven help the spammer that I find trying to get into MY network.

    I had a very small beverage fridge that used the peltier element.

    Sounds like the design of the fridge wasn't done right. I've done a bit of experimenting with these guys, and given the proper set up and a couple of house, you can easily put a layer of ice on your fish tank (we were young).
